Advertising is the art of emotional manipulation, so the meter succeeds. Not only does it rev up the drama, but it engages us to advertise as well! I know I've been FB'ing and Tweeting to try to get a few more people to pre-order! So, why would they stop? Assuming we hit our goal, even barely, the meter has not only served to show us where we are, but has engaged us to push further. So, really, it's possible we might've missed our goal if not for that meter! It's all connected.
