MOTUC Popularity Polls 2013 - The Results Countdown!

"2013"? I hear you ask. Ah, well, the last time we did this was at the start of 2012, when the polls had been completed at the end of 2011. So I'm a bit early this year...but the top-end of the results countdown won't be revealed until at least the end of 2012 - probably start of 2013. So yeah: 2013 will have to do.

So, here are the facts and figures for this year. The polls were conducted over at the MOTUC Polls forum right here at He-Man.Org and featured a massive 130 characters. Phew. It's been a marathon and I'm outta breath. Each poll had 100 individual voters (not one poll went over - and I've got the screen shots to prove it!) who cast votes for who they a) wanted to see in MOTUC if not yet revealed and b) who they would buy if they had been revealed.

So the results will feature Frosta, Rattlor, Mosquitor and Dekker. And Castle Grayskullman and Cy-Chop. Plus the 2013 figures revealed so far. It will also feature all original characters from the MOTU, POP and NA toylines, but no variants or beasts (aside from Granamyr, who was in the last countdown). In addition, there are popular minicomic, Filmation, Jetlag, 200X and 'other media' characters who are available to be made in MOTUC - and a couple of characters who aren't.

Some characters will share positions if they received an equal amount of votes. Last year, a couple of people noted that if there are four characters at number 26, for example, the next character should be in position 31 and not 27. However, groups of characters will be counted in 'clusters', if they share a spot (eg. the 26th 'cluster', the 27th 'cluster' and so on). This is largely for consistency, as it's the way I've done it before - it helps when identifying how far up or down a character has moved. Once the full results are posted, I'll add a more numerically-accurate countdown for those interested.

I agree, Mantenna or Two-Bad will probably be very high in the polls. I also hope that the main POP ladies (Glimmer, Angella, Castaspella and Madame Razz) will fare better than in last year's poll.

Yes my favourite thread is back baby! Looking forward to the results, I think the top four will be very smiler to last year, with Two Bad or Trooper for the win again, think I'll go for Trooper

There was lots of support for POP, both Filmation and toy characters. We've got a long way to go. I will say this: every POP toyline character received at least 50% of votes cast.

These guys are much higher up. Predictable I suppose for the vintage MOTU characters. But there are some surprises in store.

Glad you enjoy it so much, 13977. I enjoy it too - but I'll need a rest after I've counted them down!

Wait and see...the POPular POP ladies don't want to disappoint. They might be late to the party.

As for the 'bottom feeders', which makes me lol... Get ready to point and laugh at:

    NEW ENTRY! #62 - Caz (14/100 votes)

    Last time: N/A

It's not a good start for Caz. First time entrant into the Popularity Polls and he scores the lowest amount of votes ever. Only 14 of you actually want him! For those that don't know, Caz was the boisterous little whipper-snapper from He-Man's 1989 New Adventures series who was often getting into scrapes with Skeletor and shooting his mouth off at the Mutants. He-Man would have to rescue him. By the looks of things, it seems you'd rather he left Caz with the bad guys...

#61 - The Scientists of Primus (15/100 votes)

    Last time: #58 (19/100 votes)

Serial 'bottom feeders' the Scientists of Primus finally redeem themselves! Handing the torch over to young Caz above. Don't expect a four-pack any time soon. Original sculpt+risky character selection could only = a high price tag for uber-He-Fans alone. If these guys had pegs to warm, they'd be steaming hot.

    #60 - The ABC Giants (16/100 votes)

    Last time: #55 (29/100 votes)

After Megator and Tytus, we were surprised with Procrustrus this summer. Easily a safer bet because they other obvious candidates for the giant buck are these guys: characters who don't really mean much without each other. What with sub and Castle Grayskull sales uncertain, it seems fans would rather have other guest characters from the MYP series than these buffoons. "Maybe in a movie year"?

Yeah, all of the above would be an easy pass at this point in my MOTUC collecting days... though I prefer Caz to any of the others!

Heck no! I'm a gigantic fan of the Evil Mutants of Denebria, and I definitely wouldn't want them get that severe penalty! Caz...the annoying Filmationish brat of NA. Nothing is perfect, and he's the personification of the few things I don't really care for in that series. That being said...I would still most likely buy one just to keep the flame of NA alive, if the very, very, very unlikely event of him being released in figure form happened.

I personally have nothing against Caz, the Scientists of Primus or the ABC Giants making it into MOTUC at some point... To me, they are not necessarily less interesting than, let's say, Cy-Chop or Sir Laser Lot.... (which were probably some of the most boring characters in MOTU history).

But we need so many important characters first! We don't even have all the core members of the POP and NA factions! Give us Hydron, Glimmer, Flogg, Angella and so on first... I can easily wait until 2018 to get my Scientists of Primus figures

going back to rotar - for me, both rotar and twistoid didn't really feel like figures or characters - they just seemed like gimmicky accessories and i guess they still do ...

id buy then both as they're vintage - but i don't have any real connection to them ...

    #45= - Melaktha (36/100 votes)

    Last time: #49 (37/100 votes)

Now, I know Melaktha just screams 'generic Eternian', but I really want him. Like REALLY. He's my last big want for MOTU (OK, I'd take Shokoti, but Melaktha would fit in so well with the Royal Family). Ever since Mattel acquired the Filmation rights, I've thought he could become a really interesting link between Eternia's present and the POG era. He'd need to come with some pretty cool accessories (Grimalkin statue, anyone?), but he'd be a fairly cheap figure to produce. I live in hope.

NEW ENTRY! #45= - General Tataran (36/100 votes)

    Last time: N/A

It's double new entry time! Every so often, a villain comes along so brilliantly evil, they stand out above every other one tenfold. General Tataran epitomises that for me, being part of Skeletor's most dastardly plan in "The Problem With Power", but he's also a stellar force in "The Arena". There were so many goblins, they could have become quite a major force on Eternia if they'd be used a little more. And I'd love a General Tataran figure (named after famed Filmation writer Tom Tataranowicz, donchaknow!).

NEW ENTRY! #45= - Twiggets – Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina (36/100 votes)

    Last time: N/A

I had a PM suggesting that I'd include these guys in the most recent round of polls - I didn't include them before because I just assumed they'd be bottom of the pile. Imagine my surprise then that they're not as lowly as I was expecting - the Twiggets have some fans! Hurrah! More likely I presume than Caz and the NA Scientists (which granted isn't saying much), Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina have a fond place in my heart. And once they're on my shelf, I'll start hollering for some Twigget army builders.

    #45= - Baddhra (36/100 votes)

    Last time: #41 (45/100 votes)

Two-Bad's the last BIG name from MOTU's early waves to be released and it seems, whilst fans are losing patience for him, they're losing interest in his earlier forms. Tuvar's still to come, but Baddhra from the MYP cartoon takes a dive (and they've historically been quite close together - which is to be expected, I suppose). One would expect him to be classic-ized and not have that poor-postured hunchback look about him if he ever gets made. I've got a feeling that's going to be a very big 'if' at this stage though.

    #45= - The Oracle (36/100 votes)

    Last time: #51 (35/100 votes)

How many Trollans do we need? Well, if you ask me, we could use a few more, but the Oracle isn't on my list. I'm not exactly a fan of the notion that there had been an Orko before Orko on Eternia. The meeting of the two worlds was so bizarre and unexpected, right from his arrival in Filmation's "Creatures from the Tar Swamp" that the Oracle's pre-Orko performance took some of that mystique away. Whilst there are other Trollans in my mythos, Orko will always be Eternia's first.

Most-wanted MOTUC: Granita - Hunga the Harpy - Spinnerella - Melaktha - Vultak - Dylamug - Crita - Mermista Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina

I think that the Twiggets could make a cool multipack in MOTUC. Release them as an exclusive pack so that those who don't like them don't feel forced to buy them through the sub!
20 Most needed characters before MOTUC ends...

Heroic: Lizard Man / King Miro / Hawke / Dakon
    Evil: Evilseed
POP: Angella / King Micah / General Sunder/ Twiggets 3 pack
Horde: Vultak / Hunga / Prahvus
    POG: Veena
    SnakeMen: Tung Lashor / Sssqueeze
    Rock People: Granita
    NA: Darius / Sebrian

I like the Trollan Oracle over Dree-Elle & Montork, preferably with them but I like his longer robe and wise sage vibe better.

Melaktha is soooo plain but I'd still like to have him as a figure.

The Twiggets are ok, if we must spend tooling on a pip squeak pack I'd prefer it be the Trollans though.
Ask not for whom MOTUC is made, it's made for thee.

If you have to disclaimer your like, then you don't really like it.

Ceratus as a MOTUC figure I don't think would end up looking different enough from Whiplash to justify a place for him on my shelves.
The Masks Of Power demons? I guess if they came in a two-pack with some weapons/artifacts that could be fun, but as individual releases? No thank you. I would want them as a pair, and at this point in the line- monthly slots are just too valuable to be thrown away on these guys if Mattel handled them any other way than as a set.
Uncle Montork I would take, but only if he came with Dree-Elle. I like the idea of having a trio of Trollans on my shelf, but feel if they did one without the other, it would feel a little off.
I don't know enough about Scrollos and don't get much of a vibe from him based on posted pics here on the .org... he's an easy pass.
A lot of these characters I feel would work ideally in sets. Like Melaktha. Put him in a three-pack in the middle of a Shokoti and Lord Masque sandwich, and THAT would be a set I'd buy an extra of just to keep MIB. On his own... eh...
General Tataran I've had little interest in until seeing his ranking here... simply because I completely forgot who this guy was. I agree with what so many others have already said- that he would make great re-use of Ram Man parts, making for quite an imposing action figure! I say bring this guy sooner than later into the fold...
    Twiggets. No.
I want Loo-Kee, Kowl, Madame Razz & Broom, and Imp. I do not want Twiggets OR Widgets.
This late in the game, I'm not even remotely interested in Baddhra (or Tuvar, for that matter). Just give me the meat and potatoes that is Two Bad instead.
The Oracle is something that was fine for what he was in the MYP episode, but something that I have zero interest in when it comes to having an action figure produced.

    #44= - Twistoid (37/100 votes)

    Last time: #41 (45/100 votes)

The second Masters of the Universe toyline entrant is - predictably - the other Energy Zoid, Twistoid. No great surprise, but I suppose it opens the door for guesses as to who will be next from the vintage line. Not much more to say about Twistoid, other than he was a robot built by Skeletor who went into battle with Rotar (which was kinda convenient seeing as they were the same height and basically did the same thing - what do you mean it was a marketing thing?!).

    #44= - Hoove (37/100 votes)

    Last time: #41 (45/100 votes)

Here come the first back of NA (or simple 'He-Man') toyline characters. Hoove slips a few places - he seemed to be on the rise last year, but as with all of these placings, the results are approximations. I never expected to see Karatti so soon, so I wouldn't rule out any of these guys. We know for a fact that Hydron and Flogg will make the cut if the line continues with the 12-figure subscription...and we have at least one more NA character to come this year. But I think we're in need of some Galactic Guardians, myself...

    #44= - Spinwit (37/100 votes)

    Last time: #46 (40/100 votes)

...would Spinwit fit the bill? Well, with Tuskador, Sagitar and some of the other heroes seemingly more popular (they certainly seem to appear on most-wanted lists more often), Spinwit may be left out in the cold (for now). However, despite his similarity to Sy-Klone and Spinnerella, I'd still like to see Mattel get to him. I'd like them to fulfil the initial goal of remaking all of the original toyline folk. I think NA especially could have been handled a little better - at least two per year would've bumped the numbers up. If they'd added a second NA character to 2010, 2011 and 2012, Spinwit would have more of a chance.

    #44= - Butthead (37/100 votes)

    Last time: #46 (40/100 votes)

Equal in votes and placings with Spinwit this year and last, Butthead puts him in the shade simply by having a fantastically juvenile name, which they didn't even announce in the cartoon. I never had the original figure, but he's characterised as a really likeable dufus in the series, with a great Brooklyn accent that'd make Madame Razz feel at home on Denebria. Villains in general seem more in-demand - I certainly prefer the Mutants to the Galactic Guardians and 'BH' is close to the top of my list of demands.

Most-wanted MOTUC: Granita - Hunga the Harpy - Spinnerella - Melaktha - Vultak - Dylamug - Crita - Mermista Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina

    #34= - Goat Man (48/100 votes)

    Last time: #37 (50/100 votes)

I never liked the goat. He's a goat, for Heaven's sake. One of the least scary creatures ever known to man. I look at goats and my heart melts. They're so gosh-darn cute. So surely combining a goat with a hunky muscle Mary would surely be a thing of enormous joy, right? Wrong, because it's just weird. I hold a candle for certain one-shot characters, but I don't find Goat Man original, inventive or remotely threatening. I know people make the connection between him and the devil, but I just don't see it. The Devil, yes. Goat Man, no.

    #34= - Karg (48/100 votes)

    Last time: #26 (62/100 votes)

In the great tradition of parts re-use in MOTUC, someone made the brilliant observation that Karg could, in fact, reuse Netossa's hair. She could start her own line of MOTUC wigs, but of course she'd need to go over to Eternia to flog one to old hook-hand. It's convenient then that she followed She-Ra back to her home planet, as setting up business in the rough Etherian climate would be a risky move at best. With everyone choosing to holiday on the sunny planet of Eternia, Netossa would have a much broader target base. And, later, when Karg takes the 'do to Earth, she's really in for a treat. That's 7billion more people to tout for wig sales. And with Karg as your number 1 salesman, 'no' - quite frankly - isn't an option.

Karg and Lt. Andra are the only characters in the chart that Mattel can't make. Their inclusion was to assess the demand for them. Andra didn't fare too well in her debut year and Karg has dropped significantly - which may give an indication to TG as to whether it's even worth pursuing the licences.

I love this thread Scorpia. I'm always excited to see who's next.

Goat Man went up in position, but down in votes...I'm calling it a win. Goat Man!

Agreed - the movie gave him more of a purpose than being just one of Skeletor's goons. If he were possible, I'd imagine he'd be an asset to Jitsu with Skeletor being off on Primus...

They can keep Movie Beast Man.
I didn't include variants on the list, so I've no idea how 'fan-demanded' any of them are. I'd hazard a guess that God Skeletor would be fairly low - but imagining the sculpt, I'm sure people would be convinced to make a purchase! It's a shame they couldn't arrange a 25th anniversary pack. Maybe for the 30th anniversary of the movie.

Same here. I'm not too fussed about him though, unless he sort of contributes to Stonedar and Rokkon's bucks... Of course, I'm all about Granita!

Hell yeah! Someone suggested a while back that Mattel offer a 'Defenders of the Secret' multipack with Madame Razz, Broom, Kowl and Light Hope. I'd dig that. If it wasn't possible, give us Madame, Broom, Kowl and a Light Hope background instead of the usual Castle Greyskull rocks. That'd make POP fans go gaga.

I imagine they'd do Vultak's wings the way they did Buzz Off's - with the ball-joint wings. I doubt we'll see the drums again unless they release someone like the Enchantress...

*hangs head in hands* Doh! I've taken little-to-no interest in the 30th Anniversary figures, so I forgot about him. I know nothing about Waspor though - have you got a link, 13977?

No, I didn't think to include him. I had to draw the line somewhere. I guess to me, he's far too similar to Zodak and what with him, Zodac, Zodac (TRU) and Strobo, I feel a little Cosmic Enforcer'd out!

Amen to that! I like that Crita doesn't have any special powers - she's a woman talented in combat with a thirst for power. She also happens to be a mutant!

Goat Man! Yes! I want that slightly satanic-looking fellow in my Evil Warriors ranks before this line is through! I've never seen him represented with weapons either, which makes him a clean slate... I would love to see what the Four Horsemen could come up with for this fiendish fellow to wield. I'm thinking a gnarly battle axe of some sort... and a bunch of rocks. I could see him getting nasty in battle and grabbing large rocks off the ground and smacking you square in the face with 'em... and then coming at you with that battle axe...

Karg. I could see him with rooted hair in the '80s with a repaint of Loo-Kee's brush... but can't really see where he'd fit stylistically in MOTUC these days. I consider him a bit of a lost cause...
