It looks like beast machines Optimus primal to me.

Well, I'll be happy to get the buck for customizing, but man, that's an ugly figure.

I kinda like it. Hopefully the actual product is better than that prototype. I'll add that guy to my MOTUC shelf.
Wow, how far we have fallen from the DCUC figures like Ares and Etrigan...
That said, this will make yet another excellent alternate head to put on Mighty Spector!

I may get this to make a custom or two. I'll wait to see the actual final figure though before I make up my mind.

Cool they are using MOTUC bucks, but I need a Superman like that....
Uh...
Did Mattel run out of money?
It's like their budget got cut from his chest down.
Is this the really big one? They showed a massive one at sdcc and it looked amazing. This one's head looks too big for his body.
Man I´m not into the 52 stuff but as much as I like Darkseid and the New Gods that design is totally awful! At least the king Kirby doesn´t have to see it!
Have the 4HM done this one? He looks OK

I think it's actually the Dark Knight Batman body, which, according to Mattel, only used the shoulders from MOTUC. It makes a lot more sense that they would re-use that body to justify the tooling for it than to raid MOTUC; I can't see them tooling almost a whole body even for a Batman figure without re-use already planned for it. Thus, big, badly done Darkseid; it does look like the stony cracks on the arms are just painted on, and rather poorly (which there is no excuse for; Mattel did a battle damaged animated Batman where the paint apps were so well done you had to inspect it closely to see it wasn't actually sculpted detail). Of course, it is just an early prototype from the looks of it, so things could improve there.
A Dark Knight Superman like this would be nice, though; a Miller-esque head sculpt would throw it off a bit, but it would still be the closest thing we'd likely see to an MOTUC style Supes.
"I will use this power for all the good that can be done, to work for peace, to encourage virtue, and above all, to preserve life in all its forms..." Superman
This figure looks really bad. I guess that's about all we can expect from Mattel at the $16-20 price point for the new DC figures though. The DCUC wave 12 CnC is a much better figure, but I'm also biased because I love the classic Kirby design.
It definitely would work for me as a background "evil" character, but as for actually *being* Darkseid, he's too skinny. He looks like Darkseid on Jenny Craig. He's just beefier than that.
Its like geriatric darkseid...one row of upper teeth says "I am might have trouble with that corn on the cob"
Goat-Man---Goat-Man---Goat-Man
Agreed. My favorite interpretation of Superman is the Ed McGuinness version and the MOTUC buck would be perfect for that figure.
I don't get it, the BAF Darkseid from a few years ago was perfect. If you want to make a 52 Darkseid, who is just as big as the original, why not use the BAF version as the base? This Darkseid is too small and disproportionate. The DC Direct version was an almost instant sell out so maybe Mattel is trying to get a piece of that apple pie.
A journey that began long ago in a place neither near nor far…
A story of heroes, passed down through the ages…
Until now.
This is our story. These are our heroes…
As a collector of both these Mattel lines I can see where the effort is being put, and it's not on the DC lines retail or sub. How in the world do those photos make the figuers even look like something someone would spend $20 on? They hold information so tight, yet let these photos out? What? The sub line is full of re-harshed body parts that are just painted differently to give you a new figuer. I understand the cost of new tooling, still MOTUC line always seems fresh to me with how they do it. I am happy about some of the ones coming out next year in the sub, but come on show some effort with the line. No one has answered a question on the retail forms over at Matty going on two months now. I hope next year the retail line can show me someone cares. These photos are not a good start. GRRRR
