Mr. & Mrs. Smith generated a worldwide box office of $478 million. I'd call nearly half a billion in box office "resonating".

As for whether or not he can do action/adventure...well, you tell me.

I get the point a lot of zombie lovers are making about the market being saturated. But the reality is that it isn't -- it just seems that way to those that have always loved zombies because they've been tuned into the genre for so long. They were there are the beginning and because they've always loved zombies they've been aware of every zombie vehicle that has come out. But for much of society zombies are a relatively new thing and when a genre generates $5 billion, as zombies did in 2011, it tells you that it hasn't even begun to crest.

I'm not pro or con on WORLD WAR Z. I'm going to resevre judgement. I like Pitt and I think he's a good actor. We'll see about the film.

What I'd also like to hear is what a few orgers that haven't always been into zombies -- and that are relatively new to the genre -- think of the trailer.

well to be fair all my comments are based on the fact that I simply do not like zombies (so it isn't just zombie lovers that feel the market is saturated). imho they are one of the most BORING monsters EVER created and the only reason they keep making movies about them is because they are relatively simple to make.

add to that shows like The Walking Dead and any other sci-fi, fantasy tv show that has had an ep or two dealing with zombies...it looks pretty saturated to me

Also Mr & Mrs Smith was a reasonably interesting concept that just wasn't done well.

Nope. Wouldn't work. Wolves are territorial and only stick to their packs. They wouldn't work together in large groups. Plus they'd only be werewolves during full moons. You can't really conquer New York City in one night. Well, not without nuclear weaponry.

Now, werewolves armed with ICBMs...that's a movie!

well I meant werewolves like the ones in the Ginger Snaps series where once they changed they don't turn back. The whole full moon to change thing does not apply to every werewolf

World War Z was a fantastic, brilliant book. Yeah, it was a horror/ alternative history tale but it was so well written and believable that it stood out. I haven't seen the trailers yet, but considerng the lofty expectations both the book and the audio book have layed upon this project, I fear some folks will be dissapointed.

That being said, I love zombies. I've loved them since I was a kid and I'll love them until the day I die (hopefully not becoming a zombie, however).

I have never been big into zombies, but this movie looks pretty good to me.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Off to see World War Z

I know I'm really behind the curve here, but I've been heavily involved in work. Finally going to see World War Z with Alex today. I've made it a point not to read any reviews or watch the trailer so I can go into the theater without any preconceived notions. I'm hoping for a great two hours and will check in later.

Btw, I looked through the threads and couldn't find one for World War Z. Maybe it was back further than I checked. If there was a World War Z thread I'd appreciate it if a mod could just merge mine with it as a post.

    Thanks.

What's funny is that you are the one that started the "official" World War Z thread. lol.

I'm glad you're amused, MOTU. It's called "Having a senior moment". Wait until you're sixty-four. With three children aged 14, 11 and 5 -- my first children, btw -- I'm lucky I remember what street I live on, let alone what thread I started two years ago on he-man.org.

Anyway, I enjoyed WORLD WAR Z. I'd give the film a solid B. At least I can see where the bucks in the budget went. Imo Pitt is watchable. My only gripe is that it borrowed from the 1953 version of WAR OF THE WORLDS by having the 'invaders' done in by humans' pathogens. Same ending. On the other hand I'm probably the only one on the board old enough to remember seeing WAR OF THE WORLDS in the theaters in the 50s. My brother took me to see it and I remember I didn't sleep for days.

Again, enjoyed WORLD WAR Z. Surely not a top ten; but a nice summertime diversion.

I enjoyed the film. I'm glad they reshot the final third of the movie. The original ending sounded pretty depressing.

Saw WWZ yesterday. I enjoyed the film, thought Brad Pitt portrayed the role of Gerry nicely. I like how the film focused more on the mystery of how to solve the issue(!) at hand rather than go down the traditional path (I guess) of gore etc... as cheap pops.

Made me wonder afterwards... how prepared would I be in the event of a catastrophe? Hmm.
