San Diego Comic Con - Any advice?

Hi guys not sure this is where I should post this but looking for some advice - I am thinking of going to SDCC for the first time in 2013 but dont really know anything about how it works and the official site doesn't seem that detailed. I have only ever been to a memorobilia show in the UK which I guess is the closest thing to ComicCon (although imagine the one I went to is much much smaller!)

I would obviously be keen to check out the Mattel booth but do they actually sell figures at these events or is just showcasing upcoming releases?

Also any general tips on what to expect, where to stay, how much cash I need (or if they take card), how long it takes to get into panel discussions, cost of autographs etc etc?

I have a feeling this thread will be moved, but anyways... I'm hoping to go to SDCC for the first time too this year... big bus road trip which will leave me on the road for 11 days... and the only hotel I'll have is when I'm in San Diego for a night or two.

The tickets will be very difficult to get this year. They usually go on sale to the public sometime around March and if it's anything like the past couple of years, it will sell out in about an hour. It's a great experience, but every year it seems to get more and more crowded.

They did a pre-sale for people who had tickets last year and I tried for all nights including preview and they were gone instantly. I could have got the one without the preview night, but I backed out hoping to try when they go on sale for the public. It's tough.

Hopefully I can get a ticket for Friday, cause that's when I want to go.
