MOTUC Dragstor (Custom)

This has been a WIP for months now, as I figured out what to use and how to execute.
First I had a Hordak buck leftover from my Filmation Hordak, since I used an extra MAA
buck for that. I thought, who could I possibly do, that my limited re-sculpting knowledge
could do, most customs I have done were mainly repaints and minor modding, hardly
any re-sculpting (The success with my Filmation Hordak gave me the confidence to
attempt Dragstor). I looked for like a week and finally decided to make Dragstor, he is
one from my childhood collection that is still missing in MOTUC, and one of my favorites.

So, I started by taking the Hordak buck apart and sculpting vents into the thighs, then I
started taking Kobra Khan shins and reworking them, and the furry boot feet as well.
Then was the task how to do the armor / body design, and removing the ab crunch and
waist articulation. That wasn't hard since I have done many mods and worked with plastic
strips. The wheel is from a model car....yes, they do have BF Goodrich tires on Eternia...
The import them from Earth.

I shaved the lettering from the tire, and glued it in. Then once the body was done, I got a
Kronis head and started on the hardest part....no wonder they say heads cost the most to
sculpt....

The Pack is an extra heavily modified TP He-Man pack, screwed into place so it can be taken
off, and simulating the chest hoses are from a 6" Peter Venkman, thanks to my sons GB
breaking from first movement out of the package, so I cut it off, thought, hey....and there it is.
It attaches to his chest, and his pack for added effect.

The headers are made from plastic model tree, and the thruster / exhaust tips are wire nuts,
drilled out for added detail. The thrusters are made from MP Skywarp Null Rays.

I wanted a predominately Vintage feel, with a few modern type touches, as the pack of the
Vintage figure wasn't very detailed, and I had little to go on for design. But I am really happy
how it all turned out. It could have been better, but all in all, I really like it.

I wanted the whole pack removable, so I did full detail on the back.

I wanted to keep the pack removable, and the TP He-Man pack allowed just that, plus the thrusters are not glued on either.
The pack base is held on by a screw and a spacer between the plate and figure to keep the plate from flexing.

Now this is an AWESOME DRAGSTOR!!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it, it's been a few months of planning and finding materials to use. I was looking at my Generations Thundercracker pondering how to do the thrusters in scale, and being a former Electrician, it dawned on me....wire nuts sort of look like thrusters....boom to my shed I went, and pulled out the drill to drill out what would become the tips for detail. I would have preferred them to be a bit shorter, but it still accomplished what I wanted.

No, I've done a lot of heavy mods to Transformers Customs, but I'm not that good yet.

He is my third re-sculpting attempt, but only my second for heavy work on a head or face. My Filmation Hordak custom was the first doing this, otherwise the majority of faces I have done are Transformers and just adding plastic or cutting parts off for a slightly different look, nothing like since moving to MOTUC customs....

I saw one where it had Trap Jaw thighs, but I wanted something different for mine, I wanted a mostly Vintage direction, so instead of simply adding some sort of vents on the thighs like gluing plastic on, I opted for something a bit more challenging, where I actually cut into the thighs and made the vents, I was hoping it would look more a part of him, than something just bolted onto him....I mean he is supposed to be a sort of robot, or in the very least a Hordak abomination, so it's not like it would hurt him any having the vents cut into his thighs.

The one thing I wish I did was use the Man-E-Faces briefs....they are much heavier looking unlike the Khan briefs. But I am not ripping him apart to redo it, plus I am not blowing money on a personal custom, I spent $22 buying a Hordak for parts for my Filmation Hordak leaving me with a buck, but I ended up turning that buck into Dragstor, so nothing lost there, $22 well spent.
Also I would have liked to have added more detail to the pack looking back at once I finished it all....I had 2 intake fans from a MP Skywarp I could have shaved down to the fans and put somewhere....but hindsight and all....oh well....it was meant to be a more so direct modern interpretation of the Vintage figure....like all Classics, I think I got that look, so all is well.

That is why I opted to sculpt out the vents in his thighs instead of using something that looked like vents....plus I made the new boots since nothing in MOTUC matched his boots....I wanted a Vintage look.

It took me a while to figure out the design of it, I wanted something like the Vintage, but I wanted it 3D, unlike the Vintage. Plus I wanted it to look more Rocket / Jet like....and that is what led me to the Wire Nuts as Thruster and exhaust tips....a little longer than I wanted, but they accomplished the look I was going for. And I wanted it removable....so I opted to use TP He-Man's pack as a base. So I have a screw holding the base to his back, and the rest snaps on just like He-Man's. Plus Using the Transformers MP Seeker Null Rays for the Thrusters....

One thing I didn't look at before painting was that he had 8 down tubes for his headers and not just 6, so he's not perfect. Plus I forgot to incorporate the chest mounted intake fans from the Seeker....I may revisit it, the Thrusters still come off the pack, they are just pegged in....something else I wanted, so the pack disassembles except for the headers, they do not come back off.
