Another Ebay problem: cigarette smoke on a sealed controller?

Playstation controller is sealed and sitting in my attic for maybe 3 years. I bought it from game crazy and they have been OOB for quite a while.

Buyer claims opened controller and somehow it smelled like smoke on the inside of the clamshell. Wants partial refund. Like every other buyer on Ebay, has 100% feedback for 48 transactions.

    What do you guys think?

I'm probably going to pass. I sold a sealed controller. I didn't make any claims about the packaging not being yellowed or the condition of the controller inside. How am I supposed to know the condition when it's sealed????

Unless there was an opening in the package there's no way smoke could have gotten inside. It's possible some of the rubber(stick pads, inner button contacts) have begun to degrade, and could smell, but this seems to me like someone who wants free money. You can pass, they'll probably file a claim and get a full refund.

"seems to have nicotine residue on it a bit since it gets some sort of powder on my fingers."

Wouldn't it would take a spectacular amount of smoking to create a film? Anyone disagree?

As far as buyer getting refunded the full amount, it will cost someone (hopefully, Ebay) to process the claim. Further, Ebay will hopefully forfeit their share of the 10% or whatever. So I wouldn't be totally opposed to that.

If the buyer decides to file a claim then ebay will refund their money 100% (item cost and shipping charges) after they ship the item back to you. ebay has no rules in place to protect sellers. It is a buyers world. I don't agree, but those are the new ebay rules. Probably best to give them a partial refund and move on.

Yeah, the refund he requested he wasn't disordinately large so I just went ahead and gave it to him.

I don't get the sense he was corrupt. I think maybe the controller was going bad from not being able to breath for a good 12 years or more in the bubble. I think he naively expected it to be in factory condition. That would explain the "film" and the yellowing.

So because he opened the package and it smell like smoke, he wanted a refund?

This is getting ridiculous with the amount of things sellers are getting screwed over. You know what, I should have made a complaint about the item I got last month. I got my GokaiRed Figuarts and the seller said he had been opened, but he did not state that I was going to have to spend 30 minutes fixing the arm. I should have pulled out a claim saying I wanted the figure AND my money back just to see if ebay would have screwed over the seller.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

Yeah, I'm just glad that I'm not a full time seller. I only sell stuff a few items here and there when I get overspent. I couldn't imagine doing ebay selling for a living.

I liked the days when I was able to give a buyer neutral or negative feedback if they took a long time to pay, had poor/ rude communication, etc. Not anymore. Ebay views all buyers as saints and only worthy of positive feedback.

I have tried out ebid, but A LOT less traffic.

There's also a sears marketplace now. I guess that's a relatively new construct.

Ebay will collapse at the first sign of competition. It's just a matter of time. There's minimal loyalty when your company is unethical and brainless.
