The vac metal looks cheap imo, a gold paint like on the prototype looks more adult collector... I have many spots on mine, where the vac metal flakes off the soft armor. It holds better on the hard plastic torso and abs.

Awesome thread, man! I will definitely be keepin tabs on this til the very end of it.

I know everyone has a different order of favorites and that's just another reason why MOTU is tops! Just because he ranked these figures near 100 doesn't mean he doesn't like them. I like them all too, but it's hard to do a list like this. My lists change EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to do any sort of list involving MOTU. It's just the way it is.

I only have so far 51 out of the 99 individual characters released as figures....I don't count the duplicates or self contained variants like all the He-Ro figures, only difference being the color of the gem. Or count Marlena and Glenn as different figures....when the only difference is in packaging.

I get how you're likely counting the figures, and that is all good for you to do so, post on Rockin'

I could run down my favorites, but all 51 of mine are, as I only buy the ones I like, or now that I have a sub....plan to keep only the ones I like....and plan to sell the ones I can sell without losing money on....I can either keep those or give them to my son.

AS far as my favorites it would be much easier to run down my top 20 or so....

Good job though being able to sort through all of the figures and rank everyone of them....keep it up.

Temple of Darkness Sorceress


Though I am glad to have this figure, I could have also lived without it just fine. The figure is, after all, just a repainted Sorceress in white/gray with the same flaws that figure possesses (see Sorceress review/pictorial). That paint job is solid, too. However, the absolute highlight of the figure is the semi-transparent, “crystal” wings. Those really make the figure stand out, allowing it to come into its own more. The evidence of this is hopefully seen in my photos.

Hurricane Hordak! I never had this version as a kid and also passed on him until I only had about a dozen MOTUC figures left to go. I ended up liking his shiny gold armor and arm attachments even though I still consider him a non-essential variant.

Oh no, TOD Sorceress didn't make the top 100?! I wasn't too thrilled about her at first (I wanted the orb holder more than anything, heheh!) but once in hand, I had a change of heart. She looks cool in white, especially with the translucent wings, and I felt the new thighs and boots were an improvement on the first release. For some reason, I also feel like her face is prettier in this version...Must be the paint job. The Filmation colors remain as the definitive Sorceress for me but this was still a nice figure and I'm glad I have her.

Keep up with the countdown, this is cool!

So far I agree with all, I have a reservation about BG Evil-Lynn, because for me she is my default Evil-Lynn, the juandiced evil-lynn never blew my hair back, so in my display I use BG evil-lynn because she is closer to filmation. But the rest repainty characters I don't even own, it's a way for Mattel to cheapen out. I don't support that. I also don't support (imo) do nothing, made-up, one-shot, half-heartedly asked for, only satisfying one person's [who won't be named] personal agenda, characters, i.e. Fighting Foe Men, Gygor, Vykron and the like. So all dat would be in my least favorite lists.

Snake Man-at-Arms

Snake Man-at-Arms has a very nice, very detailed paint job, as well as a wicked new head sculpt. The figure also comes with the lesser-detailed Serpent’s ring. The newly-painted base also gives us a chance to have a more-accurate 200x Man-at-Arms figure by swapping heads. Otherwise, the figure is a Man-at-Arms repaint. It would have been much more ideal to have more weapons with the figure, or perhaps more sculpted snake-like parts other than the head, but alas that isn’t the case. Thank goodness the arm cannon came out in a later Weapons Pak, which helps “round him out” some. Yet, it’s obvious that not a lot of overall love and attention (or money) went into this one.

Without the Snake head, he's actually among my top favorites....give him the stached Duncan head, and bam....great figure, especially once outfitted with the canon....snake head....not so much.

My MAA is no snake....

And TOD Sorceress, I rank her higher up, she has the better thighs and taller boots making her look a little better than the original Sorceress, sadly.

The only flaw ToD sorceress shares with the regular version is the drums. Otherwise she has corrected hips, and a nicely-painted face. My regular sorceress has been relegated to a mailer box at the bottom of a pile, and there she shall remain for the foreseeable future. I like that figure a lot, but this version is superior.
Save for HH, I can't agree with much of your list, sorry

I was going to skip on SMAA if it wasn't for the second mini-comic. At least they gave him a cool armor repaint that I used on my regular MAA to make my perfect version of him. I'm not a fan of his random and anti-climactic death in the MOTUC bios, though. Duncan should've at least sacrificed himself with his last shred of humanity and helped take down King Hiss with his dying breath in order to save Teela or something. Right now, this figure is just filler amongst the Snake Men soldiers.

The second mini-comic also helps forking the money over for the figure. I didn't mention it because I'm sticking to the figure.

Kronis

Though he came packaged with Trap-Jaw, he is nonetheless a separate figure – at least to me. He is the prior identity of Trap-Jaw. Having the different arm and nicely detailed head warrants the figure (and again, being the “alternate identity,” if you will) being just as much a variant as Temple of Darkness Sorceress or Wun-Dar and a place on this list. The new head and arm (and the silver/blue pistol from the Weapons Pak!) take away distinct features from Trap-Jaw, which gives Kronis a unique look. I also personally choose to take the belt off, which separates the figure even further. In the end, though, it is simply just a Trap-Jaw figure with a new head and arm.

Similar to how Queen Marlena trumps Captain Glenn, I always have Trap-Jaw remain as is and have never assembled Kronis. The nostalgic part of me only sees him as Trap-Jaw. I often forget about Kronis but seeing your pics of him makes me regret not getting an extra Trap-Jaw to have him around. He has a neat look to him and I can imagine Kronis fitting in with the NA figures, acting like Flogg's brother!

Nice pictures, but I cannot take the commentary seriously as you have listed three of the most gorgeous figures in the line as the worst. With some of the true crap they have given us (Demo-man, Sir whatever, Mighty Spawn, etc.) to put BG EL at the bottom because she didn't get a little skirt just blows my mind.

I didn't like him (or 200x, NA, or PoP stuff) at first. But I like it all "classicized" and made to look "together" under MOTUC. I've come to love it all!

I'm curious as to where you place Demo-Man, Frosta, Mek, DB Skeletor & Rattlor. The last 4 being solidly in my top 20. I like Demo, he's a cool figure, but I could have taken Dragstor over him, but I still like him.

And BGEL is a great figure, but I do agree she really needed the new buck and a new armor to really stand out, otherwise she's just a basic repaint with a new cape and a new head. The Classics version made me like the yellow version more than the Vintage figure ever could, but I prefer the BGEL colors to the original Evil-Lyn.

And I really like how you are posting your opinion about the figures....no matter who replies to you. It's your thread and your figures....rank them as you see fit.
