    Stratos

Stratos is one of my favorite characters and figures from the vintage line. I am very impressed with the sculpt of the MOTUC version. Yet, what has always bothered me about the MOTUC version is the inability to move/position the wings; instead, they are stuck/glued in place. Though they corrected this with the blue-winged/red-jetpack version that came in the MOTUC vs DC two-pack, this version was the standard release and is my preferred version (with the red wings/blue jetpack). It’s really disappointing to not have the ability to move those wings. It’s also a bummer that the figure comes with no accessories, though we do now have a Staff of Avion for the figure (though does the figure hold it when both hands are sculpted wide open?). Nevertheless, it’s a beautifully sculpted figure, and one of the reasons I bought into the line.

    Wings that won't lose a feather . . . or movement.

You can fix the wings, with a little heat and patience. Then it's like a brand new figure!

I too like Stratos and agree with your assessment. I only own the TRU version and have him hanging from the ceiling with fishing line. Great photos and great to see ya back to it!

    Webstor

The addition of the 200x-style spider legs in a “vintage-style” to match the Classics look is fantastic. At first, I didn’t like this direction, but now I always display Webstor with the extra legs spread out. The face sculpt is also awesomely updated and detailed, particularly with those wicked-looking teeth and extra eyes. The real downside to Webstor is the backpack. First, the grapple hook is too gummy/bendy, and mine permanently stays warped. Also, the backpack does not function “just like you remember”; instead, the string/rope attached to the grappling hook is manually pulled through the backpack over there being a mechanism or feature to “catch” or hold the rope. Really, the way the backpack is currently designed is more of a messy nuisance than anything else. Sure, I’d rather it the way it is than not having it at all, but, overall, the backpack could have been designed much better.

Got me a hook and love to dangle it.

Stratos is at the bottom of my list, I bought the TRU version because it was cheap, but the lack of ability to hold anything in his hands and finding good poses for him has left him at the bottom, even the Staff of Avion is useless from Icer, because Stratos can't hold the damn thing. At least that would have made me like him more.

Not to mention, why the hell is the right furry leg so deformed looking on all those bucks? Beast Man, Stinkor & Stratos, to me it looks bad leaving me with even less poses for Stratos.

Yay! We're back up & running!

Stratos I have the DC one with 2 left wings I've been looking at the staff, & it could just be me, but I think the handle is extra thick so he may get to hold it. Of course then regular hand guys won't get to, but who cares Stratos finally gets something!

Webstor, I don't have. Man do I want him. One of the few I remember getting as a kid. Got him at K-Mart. Opened in the car, got home, ran inside & rushed to the hallway where I flipped the switch & hung him from it. Ahh the stupidity of kids. Of course he was too heavy, flipping the switch down & sending him crashing to the floor, breaking his backpack. I never got to use it as a kid.

Great pics again. I really enjoy this thread.

    Hordak

The Classics version is just how I remember Hordak. In fact, I had to look up pics of the vintage figure to see what the differences were, and to my surprise, there are quite a few. Mostly, the main differences are that the face sculpt and deco on the Classics version are twenty times better. Also, the cowl and cape are much more defined and detailed. Where issues come into play with this figure, however, are 1) the cape’s rigidity, and 2) the belly armor. The cape is way too rigid, preventing the figure from sitting on beasts or other desired movements (unless the armor is taken off). Meanwhile, the “belly shirt” armor is just a poor, unattractive design choice. The figure could have easily been designed (like later figures) to have full chest/stomach armor and not hinder the ab articulation.

Girl, look at that belly! Oh. Girl, look at that belly!

We shouldn't have to do that, though. And, I haven't been brave enough to correct the figure in fear of damaging it.

Oh wow, I agree about Hordak and yet I still love him more than 51st! I was more put off that he no longer has a pointing finger or the claws on his heels than the belly shirt though. For what it's worth, you can pirate HH's collar so he can sit down capeless.

I think I am the only person who loves that Stratos has two open hands to look good flying rather than hold weapons. But I fully agree about the wings, and his sock feet are silly looking IMHO.

I've really tried to like Stratos. I've owned the TRU version and I have a vintage version as well, but he's just kind of goofy. I certainly wouldn't put him ahead of He-Man. Flying monkey guy with 1940s aviator helmet/goggles, useless arm feathers and sock feet? Hmm.

I dislike the Classics and the Vintage Hordak, something I just don't like about him....gray, long loin cloth....I prefer the Filmation version, and since I made my custom, I'm fine, but I'd prefer an official version, so long as they do the Filmation head, and not just repaint the standard head....that is not in no damn way a Filmation Hordak head.

    Procrustus

The best of the giants. The sculpt and details are outstanding. Mattel even added an extra arm articulation point, and the two extra arms are a lot of fun. Yet, the same problem that Tytus and Megator suffer from is present in this figure: a lack of leg and shoulder articulation, with the lack of leg movement being the most detrimental. Also, it would have been ideal if all three giants were two or so inches taller to truly make them seem more giant-like. Regardless, had these figures been around (truly around, not just in Italy or at all) when I was a child, I would have loved them, and they likely would have been some of my favorite figures.

These legs of mine could use some oil or something . . .

    Alright, the countdown continues!

As one of the Original Eight, Stratos has a lot of sentimental value to me. He was one of the first MOTU figures that my parents bought for me when I was a kid. We now think of stuff like the lack of accessories and the silliness of a flying monkey man but back then, Stratos was awesome! He was the only MOTU character that could fly on his own and that made him an instant playtime classic. He'd either swoop down and carry Teela off to safety or get shot down and crash spectacularly into the Lincoln Logs. (There goes He-Man's house, Oh Noez!) While I regard Filmation influences very highly, the cartoon Stratos paled in comparison to the one in the classic mini-comic Battle in the Clouds, IMO. That story and artwork is a major part of my childhood!

I never had Webstor as a kid, or saw any of his Filmation episodes, so he also ranks kinda low for me. I like the MOTUC sculpting on him but agree that his hook "mechanism" is a bit of a mess. That gummy, warped hook never clips into his backpack all the way and it bugs me (No pun intended) that all this string is strewn all around him. How does he not trip over himself or gets tangled up when he walks around?

I was starting to leave MOTU when the Evil Horde came around and back then, I hated Hordak. To me, he was a wannabe Skeletor and it didn't make sense to me that there was another group of bad guys. The only mini-comic that I vaguely remember was Modulok's but, for the most part, I didn't care about Hordak's group. Decades later, the Evil Horde would become one of my favorite factions, especially in association with the Great Rebellion. I was also surprised to learn about Hordak's association with Keldor/Skeletor and that made him much more interesting to me. MOTUC Hordak was one of my top wants to get the Horde started. While I like the Classics vintage-inspired version of him, I really want to see a Filmation version made!

To be honest, I never noticed Procrustus in the mini-comics but he's pretty cool. I considered him a bit too obscure, and large, to ever be made in MOTUC but I'm glad I was wrong. He definitely is the best of the MOTUC giants with the added articulation and beautiful sculpting. The Starseed is a brilliant addition as we get another powerful magical artifact instead of some random weapon. While I prefer to see more of the giant Filmation monster types, like the Molkrom, I wouldn't mind seeing the ABC Giants and especially Gorgone!

    Netossa

The figure has an absolutely beautiful face sculpt and paint job, which is sometimes lacking on the female figures. I really like Netossa, a character I had no connection or familiarity with prior to her MOTUC release (though I did see her in one FILMation episode). Now that we have her sword, I think the figure is near-perfection—save one part: that net/cape. It’s too small to be a true net, and it’s too rigid as far as its form goes (it’s very unbending while draping and resting on the figure’s shoulders), which offsets her aesthetic. It’s also pretty useless as an “accessory,” since it won’t exactly wrap around or “catch” an enemy, nor can the figure really grasp it and make it look as though it were intended to be a weapon of any kind. Otherwise, the figure is a great addition to the line, and I personally feel the missing mask isn’t even needed (though I could be wrong, and it could make the figure even cooler!).

    Beware my small, stiff net!
