Jon Chu 'frontrunner' for new Star Trek movie?

From IGN. Not sure what this means for the Masters movie.

Someone at Sony is probably about to give Michael Bay a call...

Some new scoop from Flickering Myth site:
Of course, Latino Review were first on the scene, suggesting that G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu was top of Paramount's list; however, Chu's reps immediately denied that he'd been approached about the project, while both Collider and Cinematallica have since pointed to another name in Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt, who is apparently front runner for the gig and "virtually a lock at this stage in the game."

RZA was awful in Joe 2, but I thought the movie was enjoyable overall. I think John Chu is fine enough for the Joe property and probably the best we're going to see attached to a MOTU movie for a while at least, but Star Trek is out of his league imo. I think the suggestions of directors like Peter Jackson or Guillermo Del Toro for MOTU are really nice, but incredibly unrealistic as well. I think Chu is probably as good as it gets and that any eventual film will be decent at best.
