    Blade & Scorpia

Do you think that the reason why we haven't gotten Blade or Scorpia, yet, is because they're both also names of Marvel characters, & that maybe Mattel is negotiating with Marvel, to be able to use the names, for them, & not change them? & possibly, also see if they can get the rights to use the Star comics characters, too, since Marvel was the company that put out the Star comics?

The name Scorpia is TM by Marvel. Mattel will likely have to use a different name.

Blade, well the Marvel character is far more recognizable than the MOTU character, so that's a given to change names.

They could prob'ly still use Blade, 'cause it's just a generic name, but they might need to change Scorpia.

Scorpina doesn't sound too bad but I'm gonna be bummed if they have to change it.

Can't they just name them "Mattel's Blade" and "Mattel's Scorpia"?

That's what Hasbro has done with a lot of the Transformer names where the TM. And it apparently doesn't just work for the generic names, as "Sergeant Kup" is a pretty specific spelling. "Force Captain Scorpia," maybe?

And trademarks work in funny ways sometimes. If a character hasn't had an actual comic book title or figure or something with the name on the packaging/cover, it gets iffy. Of course, Mattel's legal department always seems WAY on the safe side, so that may not matter, but look up "Adora" on google and see all the "R"s and "TM"s for that name having nothing to do with Adam's sister.

It's gonna suck for MOC collectors, but otherwise, WE know what she is really called.

Generally they do the whole kit and caboodle when they register someone and keep them current.

I hadn't heard of the Scorpia issue before - that's kind of a shame. She is one I would get an extra to keep MOC so I hope if she doesn't get to keep Scorpia she doesn't end up with some goofy new name.

I did some trademark website research and found NO trademarks on the name Scorpia. Tallstar is the king of researching these though, so he would know for sure!

Same here - but didn't we see it on a white mailer at some point as well?

It may be in the process as we speak for Mattel.

Could they pull a Kobra Khan and simply change the spelling to Skorpia?

Or pull a Sssqueeze with Ssscorpia.

Or pull a Songster with Scörpia.

    Also Scorpya or Scorrpia.

In the "Masters of the Universe" comics produced by Star in the 80s, Blade was referred to as General Blade. I would go with that name for the action figure, if there are any issues.

I've searched the trademarks and it seems the name Scorpia is free.
Blade is a regular name, mattel can use the name Blade without trademark, maybe it is the same with Scorpia?

I don't know the ins and outs of trademarking, but couldn't Mattel just spell it Skorpia and be done with it?

General Blade and Force Captain Scorpia should work fine if an issue arrises. Scorpina is the name of a a Power Rangers character, but I don't know if there's an active TM for her.

Does it really matter what the package says as long as we get her? I mean, the card may have said Icarius, but it was the one and only Flipshot I put into my display.
