What was the pink waterfall in Filmation Snake Mountain

In a lot of shots of the Filmation Snake Mountain there is a sort of pink waterfall flowing. What was that liquid supposed to be? Polluted water? Blood? Lava? Honestly it looks like Pink Lemonade to me, but I was wondering what other orgers thought it was.

I kinda always saw it as lava or a regular waterfall just looking pink due to lighting...but it was pink everywhere and the light wouldn't reach everywhere...so...hmmm. Good question!

I like the idea of delicious pink lemonade!

As a kid, I actually thought the waterfall was frozen or crystalized because of the way it was "animated!" I didn't realize it was supposed to be moving!

Best guess as an adult is it's water being tainted by some minerals in Snake Mountain.

I would agree with this guess. Volcanic rock can make water turn TONS of odd colors. Which would also mean the water would most likely be toxic or possibly acidic as well with it flowing inside an active volcanic region.

This image below shows off colored water caused by massive amounts of differing chemicals settling in acidic lakes that form from hotsprings in volcanic areas.

... but thats if the color of the water is natural.. an not as also mentioned, possibly byproducts of the residents of Snake Mountain. Such as Trap Jaw or Triklops' various scientific experimentation. But it could just as well be magically altered as well...

I always thought it was lava....and that lava was just pink on Eternia

It's lava, although, if memory serves me correctly, it is called the Blood Falls.

I too always thought lava, and the color was just off (either my tv or the toon). I guess I just never paid much attention to notice it being pink.

It was called the 'Blood Falls' in the series bible and some of the scripts.
