More Gygor reuse of parts - DCU Monsieur Mallah

    http://news.mattycollector.com/blog/...an%c2%ae-more/

Not too familiar with this character, but looks like Gygor/Shadow Beast to me. Am I wrong?

I believe it's actually a re-use of the substantially smaller DCUC Gorilla Grodd body.

Funny, when Gygor came out, everybody (incorrectly) claimed it was a reuse of the Grodd body. So I guess the case of mistaken bucks has now gone full circle. But like Matthew K said, Mallah uses the Grodd body, not the Gygor one.

So Monsieur Mallah is the DCUC sub exclusive? Was this always the case? I wasn't paying attention to the specifics of that sub...

Yes. He comes in a two-pack with the Brain and is the DCIE exclusive.

Being made out of Grodd really rustles M. Mallah's jimmies
Still remembers we paid excessive shipping on Battleground Teela. Is confident Matty will resolve the issue and make it right for us.

Grodd/Mallah and Gygor/Shadow Beast are all basically the same sculpt with the DC items shrunk to a smaller scale and the MOTUC items being larger. They might be totally separate sculpts but the Horsemen relied on everything they learned from the first to duplicate the second.

how much variation will you get from a gorilla really? that's basically what it is, you have three nearly naked gorillas in lines that are based on reality as opposed to a stylized take (like the brave and the bold line)

True to a point, but there's a big difference between, say, the gorilla you can get at TRU from Chap Mei and the Horsemen's version. THere's a very specific way they sculpt the fur, especially on the arms, that is quite distinctive, and they did both ape bodies with that distinct style. THat's why there was so much confusion before and now, because the similarities go almost down to the individual hairs.

Thanks for those pics. I've been trying to avoid it for a long time but finally seeing him without the wires makes it official-- I need Gorilla Grodd(s)!

You read my mind! I love the DCU version, but she is incredibly huge!

I had to make my own "normal" sized Rita:

    Can't wait for M Mallah!

PS - I apologize for going WAY off topic here!

A note of totally useless comic book trivia: many comic books featured gorilla characters, but you especially saw gorillas on the covers of many comic books in the 70's. That is because publishers discovered that books with a gorilla on the cover actually sold better than those without.

See, everyone loves the big apes!

Did you know? Monsieur Mallah and The Brain are actually gay lovers.

Their relationship was only explored during an 80s run of Doom Patrol, and now that the character has been reintroduced to a new generation of comic fans, its been brushed under the rug. Typical.
