Teela's new costume is just sad. I am not a fan of He-Man either, now that I see it in full view. But it's Teela's new look that really bothers me. MOTU as well as POP has always had strong female characters. It started with Sorceress and that ridiculous cleavage, and now they degrade Teela to this... What's next? I guess when Despara finally snaps back and leaves the Horde (again) she will strip the Horde armor and just stay completely naked. Then she can seduce evil warriors because according to DC that seems to be the only power women can have.

This is not just a costume change. It is a degradation of the very essence of MOTU. So sad.

I just saw this article. A full front view of He-man's new armor. I think it's ghastly. Also sad to see Teela's still looking ******. And if you read the article, they say Teela's sword is more powerful than He-man's. Seriously?

Just saw this. He-man and Teela look dreadful. Stratos & MAA look great - oh, they stuck more closely to the vintage design, that's why. Hmm, making characters look like themselves, what a concept!

I really like the new outfit seeing it in action. Ive always preferred the old minicomic canon. To me, he-man is a barbarian. But if they move forward with him as a prince having adventures in the DC universe, i think this look fits great! It make more sense to me than the old battle armor he-man figure. That look ignored all other armor except a chestplate. I mean, who wouldnt go for the legs in a fight?

Giffen's "getting on everyone's nerves" sums it up perfectly. The whole DC virus infecting and degrading MotU is deeply to be regretted and lamentable.

It just gets sillier and sillier all the time. How I wish they'd either grow up or leave well alone.

He-Man needs a cape. And maybe a belt with lots of pouches!

There's nothing about that (besides the power sword) that is He-man or Teela. If Teela saw how they were drawing her, she'd throw the artists to the ground and put her heel in their throats.
It´s weird he writes Teela is his favorite to right but the most controversy is his take on Teela and her behavior so far.

So Mattel glues the female figures' clothing to their body, which they don't do to the men, then they allow Teela to be dressed in stripper garb. Nice. Better to have Teela demeaned in public for all time than to have an action figure have a removable garment.

I don't have kids, but my best friend has four young ones. When I visit they always want to see my He-man comics and figures. Up until now, even though Teela and the others are basically wearing a one-piece bathing suit, I didn't have a problem. But I'd be embarassed to show them this Teela, and my friend, who is a woman, would be offended as well. Her husband collected MOTU as a kid, and if I showed him this depiction of He-man, he probably wouldn't even know it was him - unless he recognized the sword.

Totally lame, I don't care for the DC Masters, the redesigns do nothing for me, the vintage designs are far superior...

Are we not being a bit over reactionary to Teela's new look? I mean I don't quite recall such vitriol for the BG Teela figure and this seems to be a similar concept. People like charactes like Red Sonja and Wonder Woman. The latter of which is held up as a feminist icon by some, but is often drawn in an oversexualised way.

Teela has been shown with the bikini a long time ago, that´s not bothering me BECAUSE everyone else was showing as much skin as she was.
They all had a unified look. They were strong fighters who were´t thinking about their outfits.

The contrast between this new armored superhero with perfect haircut He-Man and golden bikini with furry loincloth and red head but no tiara Teela is what´s bothering me.

He was kidding. Just mentioning that he likes to write Teela.

I had a feeling that this was going to happen...now the mandarin collar and the armored look on He-Man has been given DEADLY PURPOSE! He's been pulled kicking and screaming into the Nu 52!

I wonder which of DC's 52 universes is MOTU?

Guys, guys, maybe it's not as bad as it looks. Maybe Teela just forgot her clothes today. It can happen to anybody! It's why I can't visit the library anymore!

Not at all... First it was Teela's hair, now it's her costume.

I think the issue is that it's okay to put gear on He-Man, but putting clothes on Teela is a double standard. Some fans would rather see He-Man back in furs than in the new 52 get-up.

Another issue this picture raises is that that armor that we've been talking about for weeks might be an altogether NEW costume, replacing the furry barbarian look.

They seem to be portraying Teela in the comic as a self assured woman who ignores her lack of clothing because she is either dismissive of sexuality or is so focused on being a warrior, she doesn't care. Does it come off as exploitive that she has this personality trait? I can see where some may feel this way. Largely I think it's just males drawing hot females for males to look at. Which is a big part of any male dominated entertainment (sports, cars, comics, action movies).

Is it removed from the values of Filmation He-Man? Probably. I don't remember the cartoon being very exploitative. They just took the character designs from the toys and incorporated them into the show with little changes.

But He-Man hasn't been a barbarian since 1982 (roughly). The past few decades he's a price who magically transforms into a person with super strength and less clothing. To me, if he's going to be a Prince from day 1, he shouldn't turn into a Barbarian. He should reflect a Royal with similar armor that person of his background would wear.

Again, He only looked like a Barbarian in the Filmation era because Scheimer didn't change his look, only his backstory.

Teela looking the warrior part still works for me because that's what here character seems to be in this new comic; A warrior woman who is always ready for a fight. (Not that I like that characterization of her mind you).

Ideally I'd like Teela's girl status to be ignored and rather have her be a Captain of the Guard with a lot of bravery, not bravado.

That said, I don't have a problem with sexy outfits in comics. Politically correct does not mean asexual. In general, Men admire women for their legs and chest. Women admire men for their chest. We tend to highlight those areas to attract the opposite sex (I'm talking heterosexuals here) and to feel attractive ourselves (nothing wrong there). My wife wears skirts for me. I work on my upper body at the gym for her.

One need only look at the models on Fashion Runway or the covers of romance novels to see how women dominated industries are not much different from the male ones in portraying men and women in sexy ways. Stopping comic artists from doing it won't change the world nor will it affect my daughter's earning potential because her boss like Teela in a bikini.

This is like justifying Power Girl's gaping boob-hole because "She couldn't think of a heroic insignia, so she left it blank."

If Teela were so focused on being a warrior that she didn't care about her appearance, she would have pants and sleeves. Loose-fitting enough to allow freedom of movement, but not so loose as to be easily grabbed. Somewehat reinforced or armored, so she doesn't sacrifice mobility but she does have some protection. And not form-fitting. None of her vitals would be badly exposed.

I'm sorry, but wearing a golden bra that barely keeps her breasts from falling out is not exactly what you wear when you don't care about clothes. I have friends who don't care about clothes, but they don't walk around naked.

I have no problem with making a character sexy. We all want to be and feel sexy. But, Teela's new costume is not sexy, it's outright vulgar and pornographic. There is a difference with what a stylish, intelligent woman would wear when she wants to feel sexy and what an adult movie star would put on to make money. I have nothing against adult movie stars, but MOTU is not that kind of entertainment. I honestly feel awkward just typing this, and that's not what a fantasy/scifi property should make me feel like.

Fashion Runway and romance novels are hardly something we should look up to. MOTU should be better than that. And I disagree with the latter statement. I feel that Teela, She-Ra, Sorceress, the Queen etc. were powerful female role models that girls could look up to, and that any parent would want their daughter to grow into. That can change the world because you have all these girls who want to be strong and independent.

This new Teela may not affect your daughter's earning potential but she might teach your daughter that she should be sexually submissive to guys to be able to achieve anything. And that IMO is wrong and is huge step back from where MOTU used to be.

Thats exactly the attidude He-Man should transmit. He doesn´t care about his appearance and he doesn´t need armor. He is a warrior and a little cut here or there, wouldn´t bother the most powerfull man in the universe.
That new look is blasphemy. Its just diminishing He-Man.
Teelas look just illustrates the double standard, thats at work here

Yep. And as of this post, She-Ra is in the lead by 2 votes in the poll. But even if Teela were to take the lead on here, She-Ra is more recognizable to the general public, imo. I wish DC would focus more on her/Despara. I feel like Despara has made more of a positive impact in one print issue than Teela has in how many issues now? Despara and The Horde are the most interesting thing to me about these comics.

    I can't wait for Bat-Man vs Man-at-Arms!

I'm a little lost, I don't know if posting on this topic or the other on DC vs MOTU-LOL.

as I said before I would like a by DC comics forum was, the news is all the time, the mod should merge issues all the time, I think it deserves a sub forum. just an opinion.

I think Axel Gimenez will be involved in this project.

Teela's lack of clothing is actually pretty in-line with the depiction of Barbarian women for a long time. It's not necessarily empowering or less sexist or anything, but it's actually much more in the tradition of MOTU (well, an update of that) than He-man's clothing atrocity.
