    Why is it Gray?

My question is simple, and it's made in Ernest, not sarcasm.

WHY is it called Castle GRAYskull GREEN???

I've been a fan and collector since I was 8. And it never occurred to me to even ask the question. Now that I'm entering my contemplative years (ok, 41, but when I was 12 I was sure I'd be dead by now) the question has bubbled to the top of my mind like Moss Man out of a swamp.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Because Donald F. Glut was given black and white photos and he assumed it was gray.

I also believe the partial word "Gray" in Grayskull came from someone he knew. I believe this was mentioned at Power Con by Mr. Glut.

I always assumed it was sort of gray when started and turned to green after years of moss and various other vegetation stained it up.

There are hints that this was the case in some of the material connected to The Powers of Grayskull--the new card design for Eldor, for example, and the story in the Spring 1987 issue of He-Man and the MotU Magazine.

He-Ro may very well have built it if they were retconning out the "Hall of Wisdom" background.

Wait. Then why is it green and not gray? Did he just name it or something?

Some of the plant life on Eternia is quite odd.
Its possible that moss/chlorophyll acts differently with the rocks and soil.
It is a planet that has magic in the bio-system.

It doesn't even have to be that different. I've seen ruins in Ireland and Scotland that were picking up a green patina, and those were only a few hundred years old and fairly well frequented.

    Well here's a question..

If it was never a solid understanding when they were ingratiating episodic stories, then will it ever be a solid book of rules on what is Eternia?

I can understand that if there's only one 'weird lady with a bird hat' looking after GraySkull then the moss may have never been cleaned, but where as in my work, it is many bird-people that care for the castle, and they may have taken time to hose the walls down occasionally, unless the green reaction is not growing on the rock but is in the rock itself.

Blood magic and crystal/rock magic must be understood to tell a solid story, from beginning to end.

Like APoE said, Glut used his wife's maiden name - "Gray." He has mentioned that on several occasions.

I've always figured the fortress became covered in moss, lichen, etc. as the aeons passed.
