I think I need to post an updated picture of WB He-man/Savage He-man. He is still in a tupperware box at my parents house. Arkangel has the scan Darren did several years ago and it's still in there. Darren and I won this he-man off of ebay ~OCT 2000. This was the exact moment this particular thread started; I think...

Dang close, this thread started on September 19, 2002, 04:40pm I think the mystery will be one for the ages timeless and never figured out.

And maybe it's beter to keep this legend, there has been so much fun in this thread, and to have it finally solved it could be a huge let down where it came from when all is said and done, but then you never know

Wow Ive been here almost seven years, crazy lol.

Did it have any weapons or anything with it or was it just the figure itself?

Cherish forever. I don't think that I would ever be able to get another one this minty. Only one flaw on the whole thing just a spot on top of its head other than that perfect.

I think I may have just stumbled upon another small piece of the Savage He-Man mystery!

Look at what I found online today:

    http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/100_3151.jpg

    http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...100_3152-1.jpg

    http://s434.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=100_3153.flv

It's a talking He-Man belt buckle thing with BROWN hair!

For those not looking at the pictures, on the back it says:

    Mattel Inc. 1985
    H-G Toys
    Made in Hong Kong
Maybe H-G Toys made the "Wonder Bread" He-Man seeing as they both sport the same colour scheme? I just thought I'd share my findings.

I think I may have a theory about the origins of the Savage He-Man. So I read Roger Sweet's book and he had actually envisioned He-Man with dark hair and a gritty type of presentation, much like Frazetta's art work. It was later that He-Man's appearance was cleaned and brightened up, and the hair turned blond before production.
My theory is that Savage He-Man may have been a run of figures meant for focus groups before the toy line went into production. The appearance is darker and MAYBE leans a little more toward what Sweet had in mind for the character. This may explain why nobody at Mattel knows anything about the figure. If the Toy was never intended to be a final product, but just something for focus groups to give their opinions on, than it was never really "He-Man" as we know him. Savage He-Man was never an official figure, but just something to gauge opinions with. And perhaps the maroon weapons were made to show how the new figure could play with them. Maybe that would explain conflicting reports of which weapons actually came with the figure.
It would also explain why he was simply bagged. If there were enough of them left over after the focus groups, the overstock could have simply been dispersed through promotions. And all of those extra maroon weapons? bag em' up and throw em' in with a figure to get rid of them.
So what do you guys and gals think? Does this sound logical or have I missed the actual explanation somewhere in the last 66 pages?

Similar theories have been presented a few times in this thread already.

There's a few things though that make part of your theory invalid, about the baggie and the weapons, for example.
Do a search for baggie or weapons, etc, by post in this thread and you'll come across those posts.
