MOTU Classics Castaspella Video Review by Pixel Dan

    Alright gang, here's Castaspella!

Sorry, no "Comparison Time" in this one. I didn't have the vintage figure.

Just a note, I'll be out of town this weekend with limited internet access, so I won't be able to answer additional questions until I'm back Monday. Apologies in advance!

    She looks amazing!
Love that spell blast. If Mattel is clever, they'll release that piece in a few colours in the next weapons packs...

    They are all worth keeping

Dan, great work and thank you for getting this up so quickly!!

Yes!!!!!! This is in my top 3 most wanted figures!!! She came out so well. What a great job they did.

My only question is whether the difference in her skin tone from face to body is noticeable in hand or if that's just lighting and video.

The lighting brings it out. It's not really noticeable in hand.

Wow! I was looking forward to her but now much more so! Really turned out fantastic. Still think the toy colors would have looked better, but I honestly can't complain about what we're getting. I was worried that the colors would make her look more superhero than fantasy hero, but it doesn't look off at all.

The spell blast is a great accessory and certainly carries the figure like I thought, but MAN that is a good lookin' figure!

Good to know, that was my biggest concern as well.

Castaspella is just stunning, a really great looking figure.

I so hope we get that magic effect in other colors for Shadow Weaver and Evil-Lyn.

Excellent. I was hoping. There have been other figures along the way where that happens in pics or video but not in hand

    Dang, she is pretty awesome!!!!

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. The painted face is WAY OFF from the flesh colored plastic torso and arms! It is definitely a beautiful sculpt and unlike Frosta, looks EXACTLY like the Filmation artwork, but it will be very disappointing IF the skin tone is that noticeable in person.

Very excited for Castaspella. Looks very close to the prototype. Can't wait to get the new ladies in August.

Castaspella looks awesome! It's a shame about the terrible bio though.

No mention of ruling Mystacore/Mysticore, being the guardian of the Book of Spells, being trained by the great wizard Norwyn with Light Spinner/Shadow Weaver or her time as a prisoner of Mortella. Surely the bios could have been updated once Mattel acquired the rights to Filmation?

I love her! Amazing head sculpt. A great look overall. The spell blast hand is so cool. I love the form of it. I'm not in love with the disc, though. I think the clip looks kind of blah. Not sure if I'll display her with it. We'll see.

    GREAT REVIEW!!!

I miss the comparison time, even with a pic of the vintage figure...

Now I want that spell blast in another color for Shadow Weaver or Sorceress in the next Weapons pack.

I'll be honest : to me, Castaspella IS the best looking female in the line so far ! I'll have to buy her, and she'll actually be the first POP figure (other than Adora, She-Ra and Bow, that is) that I'll purchase.

She has positive and negative points, though... Here's the list

    NEGATIVE POINTS :

    - Old ankles, which means that some Castaspella figures might suffer from the "weak ankle syndrome"

    - For once, with Castaspella, it's not a problem, but STILL no slits in the skirts !? That might be a problem for future POP figures wearing a skirt.

    - STILL no boot cut !? It seems like the boot cut has been banned altogether by Mattel, and that is sad because it helps the poseability.

    - Catra gummy hand = epic fail

    POSITIVE POINTS :

    - Gorgeous face sculpt and paint apps, from what I was able to see !

    - Vibrant colors

    - No articulation problems (apparently)

    - First spell blast accessory (although, for some kind of reason, it looks a bit weird, but I guess it's because I'm not used to it yet)

    - First redheaded female figure in the line, which adds some nice variety

    - Castaspella really enhances the female figures roster, I think. Vibrant colors, no detectable articulation problems, awesome sculpt, cool accessories... Her design seems to be better than Frosta's or Netossa's, I think (I didn't buy Frosta or Netossa because of the skirt issue, lack of Netossa's acessories, Frosta's greyish white etc.).

August should be a good month...

Castaspella is beautiful, can't wait to get her....She will definitely be ranked higher on the list, and looks as if she'll rank with the other Ladies just under Frosta to me, who herself is #2 on my list, maybe even higher I'll see once in hand.

I personally would have loved the Thigh high boots....especially since we've totally lost the boot cut for Females....stupidly mind you. But a total Filmation look is nice too.

I'll be likely displaying her without the disk....but we'll see.

Why can't Mattel or anyone for that matter match the damn paint to the plastic? I can color match better than that, and I don't have a billion dollar design team.

Castaspella and Shokoti....that will be a great month!

The head sculpt with hair is amazing! Props to the 4H for such a fantastic rendition of this character.

I agree with the comment about the bio ... TG should have updated for Filmation canon references once the rights were obtained. Nonetheless, we have that knowledge and can use it for our personal canons.

I usually disregard the bios, but yeah, Filmation references should have been made a top priority.

That's the only thing I noticed as well - otherwise she looked perfect.
