    Old action figures gone goopy!

Dug a bunch of my stuff out of storage, and much of the figures are all goopy and tacky from that chemical breakdown that tends to happen. Is there a good method to clean this stuff off?

Do you mean sticky? Phil's link doesn't work for me, but here is a thread about vintage MOTU figures that will probably work on most figures:

Hmmmm... that's strange. But yeah, there's actually two threads in the Vintage MOTU forum.

I suspect this was an 80's plastic or paint issue. I recently opened a nightfighter Robocop and he was in perfect shape as if he were just made yesterday.

I've personally found this problem more common with Mattel and JLN toys. I've rarely had this happen to me with Hasbro or Kenner toys. But I've noticed that this is more likely to happen if you open a MOC 1980's toy in the present day. I guess it's something about the chemicals in the plastic seeping out as gas and not being able to escape due to being sealed on a blister card.

Honestly, I sometimes worry about how MOTUC is going to look 30 years down the road.

These are Kenner figures that are sticky and discolored. It can happen to any figures with soft plastic parts. Thanks for the links!

every once in a while i bring some old toys to my friends house. most of the time they're old and have been sitting in a box for a long time and if it's something i had when i was a kid, it usually feels sticky. he fixes the problem by soaking the toys in warm, soapy water for a long time, followed by a good rinse and gently wiping them dry.

They weren't in baggies. They were packed up in boxes.

I've got a Toy Biz Green Goblin figure from the Marvel Super Heroes line (circa 1994).
I picked him up at a flea market. The card is beat up and so I am getting ready to open.

    We'll see how he fared...

He's not sticky at all. Man, I miss my red Daredevil and Thing now

It looks like Toy Biz left a breathing hole at the bottom of their cards. This guy had it and so do many of my x-men.

yeah, many of my 80s toys melted or faded or gooped up from chemical breakdown.
I had them for all these year in my moms attic.

I have that Green Goblin. He rocks. I have found that warm, soapy water and a toothbrush works to remove the sticky gunk.
