    Answers to WTFWTK 2.104!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 104 questions!

This round of questions were selected by Shecky.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    1. facet: After creating all these new characters (i.e. Beast Lord, Bandwidth, Gladiator, SpinWhiz, Snarlllll, Fang-or, etc) what is the plan in regards to fleshing these characters out in some media like comics and bios. And where will get to see detailed illustrations of some of these characters?

Full designs for a few of these characters were shown at Mattypalooza at SDCC!

    2. wundarwarrior: With the recent poll regarding the DC MOTU comic figures, would it be possible to sell them in the DC Unlimited line at retail? You could easily make them chase figures much like Hasbro does with their Legends line. For example make He-Man the chase for a Superman and so on. I would love seeing my favorite heroes and villains on store pegs again.

No, there are no plans to sell MOTUC figures, even the DC versions, in the retail DC lines.

    3. IrrepressibleDH: Can we start getting extra heads for previously released characters packed in with new figures that are light on accessories please? Here's some ideas: 200X style Clawful, 200X Buzz off, Blue vintage style Mer-Man, battle damaged Faker, 200X Grizzlor, white Horde Prime, acid burned Keldor, 200X Rattlor, more alternate Snakemen, generic Avian, maybe even a snake Mekaneck head and neck.

There are no plans for 200X heads in the Classics line. As for other head variants, we do sneak them in when we can such as including an unmasked Classic version of Zodak with Strobo.

    4. darthdrew13: In the past there have been figures from the Filmation cartoons, NA cartoons, MYP cartoons, MOTU mini-comics and possibly the DC vintage comics. Will there be any more of these figures in the future since the 2014/2015 road map seems to be focused on vintage figure re-makes?

Yes, the 2014-2015 roadmap includes more than just classic vintage figures like Goatman for example. But all will be A list demanded figs, no filler.

    5. Tundra_Torque: It's been said before that 2014 and 2015, if they both go through, will finish off many of the vintage figures from MOTU, POP, and NA. Given this, once we know the 2014 line-up, will it be relatively easy to figure out the 2015 line-up? For example, if Rio Blast does not come out in 2014, then can we expect him in 2015?

While this isn't 100% true for all characters, for a vintage original MOTU character like Rio Blast this is likely true. It is also good to think about things like the remaining Snake Men. There are two left, Tung Lasher and Sqqueeze. One will be in 2014, the other in 2015. You can use that to extrapolate.

I think the "no 200x" heads thing is funny, because Strobo is packed with a 200x Zodak head... call me crazy!

I'd rather see Filmation Skeletor, He-Man & Mer-Man heads first before random heads like battle damaged Faker, Blue Vintage Mer-Man, White Horde Prime, Acid Keldor....etc...

    1. facet: After creating all these new characters (i.e.

Is there any place online to see these designs, you know, for the 99% of fans that weren't at the panel?

So, what was the point of showing these characters? Could we potentially see them in figure form one day (please?!)?

So as a POP fan the last answer tells me this:

There are nine regular figures left. With Glimmer confirmed there will be another four coming in 2014 and in 2015 the other five with Loo-kee as a pack in like Kowl.

I think i can live with that

Vintage Motu has nine regular figure left as well so the same applies for them.

With Rotar and Twistoid most likely being a two pack, Gwildor…who knows and Multi Bot getting a beast slot- i guess.

Also with that answer it´s confirmed that Blast Attack will be no Snake Man in MOTUC.

BUT that means Hydron will be the only NA figure in a regular spot in 2014 and that only leaves 2 monthly spots left for NA in 2015 as well.

Sagitar will be a beast slot, Mara and Crita would be great as a two pack, Na Skeletor can be the variant figure for 2014 or 2015.

    Am i missing something?

I don't understand why the meter still says 35%. Clearly there has been an uptick in sub sales since last weekend. I think the lack of meter updates is doing a disservice to Mattel.

goddess please just let there be a 2014 line and a 2015 line.

Oh I got a bad feeling about this. I hope time will prove my fears unfounded.

2014 is said to have more POP figures than in any previous years. If we go by what was released in 2012, which I believe has the most thus far, we should be getting at least 6 POP figure to make the aforementioned statement true. 7 if they're counting Horde Prime...but I doubt it.

I think five monthly figures are fair since that would leave, five for MOTU and two for NA. And Scorpia is FILMATION POP/Evil Horde as i´m thinking in vintage terms right now and also FILMATION characters should get another mini sub next year but this time the really demanded characters should be released like Scorpia, Lizard-Man, Madame Razz, Huntara, Dylamug and Granita.

Yeah I think it was the wrong turn of phrase to use, it feels like there was a lack of confidence in their past choices.

I haven't felt here was any filler characters, I've enjoyed most of them.

Hopefully the next RGD will help allay some of the concerns people have had about the 2014 sub and convince more to sign up. The specific questions about 2014/2015 are good to know.

Yes, yes, I know... It was just to point out that what Toyguru considers an "A-list character" is not necessarily A-list in the fans' mind...

He's not A-List....but in 2013 apparently there are different standards for A-List.... I'd much rather have seen Negator over Nepthu, but Scott had to make sure his favorites got included.

I don't know why people have a problem with this... if I ran the toy line, you bet your ass I would get some of my favorites made if I could. So Nepthu is coming out before some other Filmation character... People LOVE Seahawk... I think he's filler, I'd rather have Nepthu... but I understand that people like him. Honestly I think the 2 I mentioned are both lame characters... so many cooler filmation guys, but I don't make the call... I love Batros and Plundar, some don't. I think Huntara is lame and would rather have Mask... and who in God's name really thought Geldor was a cool character? That is the worst character ever!!!! So I can't blame TG for getting his favorites made, when other people / majority of people voted for characters that I think are far worse.

Regarding Scott and Nepthu, I think there are a few issues that irk the fans more than the character itself. Namely, the fact that Scott labeled Nepthu as "factually" being a demanded character on the forums when that was so far from the truth, and the fact that Nepthu only received 5 total votes in 3-1/2 years in a thread that he himself had created pertaining to which characters we'd like to see if Mattel were able to acquire the Filmation license. When I constructively brought up factual points on Matty that completely contradicted his statements, his answers were the usual deflective/defensive spiel.

Personally, I don't really have a problem with Nepthu being in the line as it's not a huge issue at all in my opinion. Surely there are much better characters that could have taken up that slot, especially actual demanded characters. But putting proverbial words in the fans' mouths, espcecially from the Brand Manager and especially when there is the "world-class research" team at your disposal......not real kosher, you know ? But I do give kudos to Scott.....after all, contrary to his claims of Nepthu being discussed a "ton" on the boards prior to the leaked reveal, Nepthu has surely been a hot topic over the last month, hasn't he ?

    Regards,

There are no plans for 200X heads in the Classics line.
