    Answers to WTFWTK 2.105!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 105 questions!

This round of questions were selected by MISSILE-TOE.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    1. sailoruranus: You keep saying that New Adventures won't get wrapped up by the end of 2015. If we are fortunate enough to get a 2016 sub, will you use that to wrap up NA?

We can't promise all of NA will be finished by the end of 2016 as we just aren't that far along right now. Really for the moment we are focused on selling in the 2014 sub. But we can confirm we will not finish all of NA by the end of 2015 in the current roadmap. We are only focusing on the A list NA figures for 2014 and 2015.

    2. oICEMANo: Why did you use the wrong name for the vehicle on the Sky-High/Jet Sled pack? That vehicle is called the Sky Sled as stated on the original Battle Ram packaging. The Jet Sled was a completely different accessory released near the end of the line.

As noted at SDCC, the name Sky Sled was not legally available to us much as Rattlor became "The General" in the 2002 line and FlipShot was Icarius.

    3. MISSILE-TOE: Was a variant of Beast Man based on his appearance in the '87 movie ever on the roadmap ("Battleground Beast Man" perhaps) or were you legally prevented from producing him?

No, we did not and still do not have rights to the 1987 film version of characters.

    4. FutureRetro: Now that we have seen a close-to-final version of Castle Grayskull, may we have NEW measurements of the castle INCLUDING the depth of the castle when closed?

Top to bottom (including pawn) = 24.4 inches
    Left to right closed = 15.7 x 21.7 inches (length x width)
    Left to right open = 29.4 x 25.6 inches; 34.25 inches diagonally
Jaw bridge opening height = 7.75 inches
Back door height = 7 inches
Height between different levels = base: 1.5 inches; height between level 1 ground and ceiling: 8.25 inches; height between level 2 ground and ceiling: 8.5 inches; level 3 to top point: 6.5 inches

    5. No-Ah: One of the biggest selling points to a subscription is the sub-exclusive figure. This year you've announced that it will be "The Unnamed One." Now, I get, from a humor perspective, why you might want him to a be a surprise. It's funny, it's even kind of fun. But I personally find myself torn between getting one and two 2014 subs. So what do you say...is there any chance you might bend and give us a peek? Or, if subs are still low near the deadline, would you consider it then?

He actually isn't a humorous character at all, he is pretty awesome. You won't learn more about him until he ships next Spring. While the sub only figures used to be the major incentive to buy a sub, now for 2014 he is still an incentive, but the major reason to buy a sub is to keep the line going.

As awesome as the Unnamed One might be, I still think that it was a mistake not to reveal him. Sometimes a cool design or inspired character choice can mean the difference between someone getting 1 or 2 subs and multiplied over many people, that could be many subs left on the table because no one knows what the Unnamed One will look like.

AAAAAH ! A PRECISE answer ! This is welcome, and a big improvement ! Please keep going this way !

Hmmmm... I don't know if it's just me, but I have a bad feeling about this... like Matty just never really planned to reissue all NA figures. I guess we just have to pray that the line will continue until at least december 2017...

No, we did not and still do not have rights to the 1987 film version of characters.
Another precise answer ! NICE ! At least, we know that the 1987 MOTU movie rights are not on the radar yet...

Glad to see some direct answers here. No complaints. They have previously said that not all GP human characters (with Kayo singled out) will not get made in the 2014/2015 line... i am still unsure which space mutants will make the cut.

While the sub only figures used to be the major incentive to buy a sub, now for 2014 he is still an incentive, but the major reason to buy a sub is to keep the line going.
I'm OK with this, and it is true, that sub exclusive be damned, the other figures are what's important, we knew Shadow Weaver was going to be the only demanded figure (as stupidly as that was done in the first place, should have left Horde Prime the exclusive....), so whatever came for the 2014 figure would not be a majorly demanded figure, or even a wanted one....

I don't care one way or the other about Unnamed One, or that I can't see him, to me Two-Bad, Glimmer and Modulok outweigh whatever the exclusive is. I honestly wouldn't have cred if the exclusive was Spector....this yer or for next, even that lame ass figure wouldn't stop me from wanting Ram-Man, Two-Bad, Glimmer...etc....I still would have subbed, and attempted to sell that thing off, if not, a custom, or he would have gone to my son.
    Recent....Flogg
    Coming....
Wanted....Entrapa, Light Hope, (A real) Filmation Hordak & Clawful
    Considering....
    Needed....Dragstor

Oh man, did I forget to use these [sarcasm][/sarcasm] again? Sorry....

I appreciate the answer, but it also kind of bugs me. I don't think you get to tell us WHY we buy the sub. It's expensive and this is not a charity. You also said recently that the kind of fans you need shouldn't care what characters you make. I suspect you're not really putting yourselves in our shoes. You're telling us why you want our money, not why we should want your product. The sub exclusive figure IS and always WILL BE a lure for as many years as the line continues.

In any case, I did order two subs, so let's hope I like this mysterious Unknown One!

They are speaking about the fans who don't care WHO is in the sub. They are the fans who all of the subscription models are based around.

Most people probably didn't buy a sub because Preternian Disguise He-Man was a must have figure...he was simply a bonus for getting Bow, Vikor and King Hsss. The same with Wun-Dar. People wanted Adora, Trap Jaw and Moss Man. Wun-Dar was simply a bonus.

Really? Then why limit some figures (that are known to be popular) to sub only? They are penalizing people who don't or CAN'T sub. Mattel sends too many different messages:

Is the sub for the people that want everything?
Is the sub for people that want the line to keep going?
Is the sub for people that can't stop working in the middle of the day to battle the RSOD?
Is the sub for people that want the sub exclusives (there are multiple of those now) figures?

I don't think Mattel knows what message they want to send other than, "GIVE US YOUR MONEY".

Yeah, but they need every fan they can get. They need the ones whose hearts and pure, and even the sinners who DO care which figures are included. The thermometers suggest to me that they shouldn't be looking down at anyone's business.

This really needs to happen someday. It is very unfortunate that Mattel didn't secure the rights to those character designs when the movie was being made.

Still remembers we paid excessive shipping on Battleground Teela. Is confident Matty will resolve the issue and make it right for us.

This--^ During Mattypalooza this above all else really deflated the audiences excitement palpably. And I'm sure everyone who sweated the subs last year thought the same thing we all are now- why cut your own nose to spite your face with a 'secret' incentive figure? Sure make one of the monthlies a secret, but the incentive?? Scott, we love ya dude, but this one was a really, really, really bad marketing move on somebody's part.

Top to bottom (including pawn) = 24.4 inches
    Left to right closed = 15.7 x 21.7 inches (length x width)
    Left to right open = 29.4 x 25.6 inches; 34.25 inches diagonally

FINALLY! An answer I can hang my hat on.

I think it's the "Left to right closed = 15.7 x 21.7 inches (length x width)" answer. The Height was answered in the first line, so the width is the DEPTH.

The Detolf cases I use are 14.5" deep, so the castle is TOO deep. I'll either need to pull my cases forward and allow the castle to hang off the back, or put it outside and charge rent!

It was Blade's sword. Mattel have the rights to the movie characters released in the vintage toyline (Blade, Gwildor & Saurod), but none of the other characters from the film.

I think another key phrase there is "film version". That stood out to me.

I read that as referring to characters other than those we have in vintage movie figures. (ie Blade Saurod Gwildor) But if Movie version of Blade is off limits why are they showing movie version of the sword as his toy swords were a different design.

i still think the unnamed was a bad move... some people just buy the subs to get the exclusive and sell it like a low production figure, i think a great move was shadow weaver, maybe wonderbread He-man ( for vintage collectors) but to boost the sales they should put a A list/ A wanted figure there maybe one that never was produced before like shadow weaver!!!!!!! maybe scorpia o madam rass or or a Hordak filmation but not King HE-man or the unnamed one.....
Cmon The scalpers help us with the subs, ( the prices are really expensive but they help the line) and help to the cherry pickers, one shadow weaver could be a great figure for them to buy the sub but an unnamed?? a figure that nobody knows???? who will want that figure outside of the subscription?????? its a figre that will not help to the guys who buy subs for post them on the second market...
i really think it was a really bad move....

NA Skeletor and Sagitar should not count because they would be released as quarterly items outside the 12 monthly figures since Sagitar would be sold as an oversized figure like Ram Man and Modulok, and NA Skeletor is a variant. And, if you personally ask me, if they make one Skeletor variant from NA, I would love them to make Disks of Doom Skeletor. I thought his look was so much cooler. So, I hope they plan on making more NA figures within the 12 monthly figures besides Flogg, unless we get add-on NA sub line.

Ok from the obvious answer Scott is not gonna reveal anything about the Unamed One. So in ways I can understand him but I can't get his rationale. But folks you have to look beyond him and decide for yourself, wanting what you haven't gotten to complete your sets or sitting on one figure which can be the best thing since slice bread or what will be an absolute let down is not why you're getting this sub... and I understand it could be a waste of 27 bucks but it's a chance you gotta take for what you really want.

I have faith in the Horsemen so this eases this apprehension...

This better be something totally NEW but can be familiar to the Universe.

But since I love this collection my hypocrisy overrides it all and says I want it all!!!
'Tis the wind and nothing more.....
