New Packaging for 2016 Masters of the Universe line Revealed!
Posted by Admin on April 1st, 2015

    By Eve O.

We know fans have been highly anticipating the 2016 line, so before convention season starts, and as a "thank you" for support of the 200x subscription, we wanted to give fans a sneak peek into what the future holds!

Here's what we are revealing today:
    • Line rebranded simply as "Masters of the Universe."
    • Resealable "clamshell" packaging.
    • Vintage style red "burst"!
    • There will be a mix of new figures, reissues, and "2.0" figures, including "Filmation" versions!

First reveal is a reissue, one that's highly fan demanded: the Sorceress!

Well I, four one, think this is actually some really slick packaging. I'd actually love to see something like this moving forward. It has a nice simplicity to it while being attractive, nostalgic, and potentially collector friendly.

    Nice work on this!

It's April Fools. But I would like to say that I really hope they go with that original Red Burst package for next year.

I have to admit.....this is a pretty cruel joke to play only because this doesn't seem like a half bad idea.

Go back to making harmless jokes about clamshell packaging for clamshells

    You and me both

I would have been fooled if the figure wasn't loose in the packaging, that would be a shipping disaster. lol.

completely fake and yet another "funny" April Fool's joke.

as if Mattel would have packaging that didn't warp various pieces also notice the mini-minicomic in the package.

Has to be an April Fools' joke because doing 2016 that way makes too much sense to be real...

Weren't the mini-mini-comics teased a while back? I thought they were coming as a response to the negative outcry against Axel's art. We wanted more ToyGuru story, but we wanted to minimize the terrible drawings.

Its sad that matty knows what will sell and refuses to make a profit of this rebranding idea... in favor of toying w/ my emotions. Booooooo!

You know what might make April fools fun? - If we got a real figure that day. We've gotten "joke" figures before like Mo-Larr. It might actually be fun to get a joke figure on April fools, especially if we had no idea what it was going to be until it pops up on Matty. Could you imagine if we checked Matty today and Smash Blade He-Man was for sale?

Eh, I'm not big on the April Fool's fake-outs. I like the ridiculous jokes! Just not the fake-outs. This looks kinda cool (though it would be a nightmare, 'cause then I'd feel like I needed to keep the package). They really oughta stay away from the stuff that actually looks cool and just stick to ridiculous shenanigans.

I just heard ToyGuru received the Pulitzer Prize for his work on MOTUC bios and comics.
