    New Idea- Knights of Grayskull

    Foreword; This is just a little Photocomic Idea I came up with in my spare time, whilst looking at the excellent Pre-Filmation thread on this site, as well as the MOTUC Mix-And-Match forum. Anyway, back to the point. Since Mattel is unlikely to use the Alcala comics or even the Whitman comics origin for He-Man, I decided to make up my own version taking inspiration from the above examples, as well as the original Roger Sweet pitch made for He-Man and original artwork by Mark Taylor. The result? Well, let's find out. If you like this idea, please post a reply.

    The Plot:

    A five-part photocomic that takes place on Eternia in an alternate dimension. Two thousand years after the Great Wars nearly annihilated the distant planet of Eternia, civilisation is tossed into the dark ages as dark sorcery, wild animals and mutations ravage the land. When a tribe of beast-men are attacked by the Fighting Foe Men, a vicious Pirate Horde led by the tyrannical Demo-Man, a shepherd by the name of Oo-Larr is mortally wounded by said attack. Rescued by the wandering barbarian Vikor, Oo-Larr, as well as two other unfortunate victims of Demo-Man's evil deeds, are miraculously revived utilising ancient technology by the Goddess of Eternia. Gifted with powerful strength-enhancing suits of armour and ancient weapons blessed by the Goddess, these He-Men are charged with the responsibility of safeguarding the Secrets of Castle Grayskull; including finding the dual swords and Shield of Grayskull's true guardian. Aided by Vikor and an off-worlder named Captain Glenn, these three He-Men must recover these ancient weapons before Demo-Man and his Fighting Foe Men breach Castle Grayskull and use its' to conquer all of Eternia!

    Characters;

    Knights of Grayskull;

    Oo-Larr; Before he was chosen by the Goddess, Oo-Larr was once a scrawny tribal in the Swamps of Lower Eternia. Discriminated against for his weak frame, he was given the duty of shepherding the tribe's flock. Unsatisfied with being picked on, Oo-Larr soon fell in love with the chieftain's daughter, Shalda. When their affair was found out, Oo-Larr was confronted by the tribe's champion, Kaz-Larr. But before Kaz-Larr could punish him, the Fighting Foe Men invade his tribe's land, killing Shalda in the process. Oo-Larr tried to confront their leader, the ancient demon lord Demo-Man, but he failed, the Foe-Men leaving him for dead. Fortunately, he was discovered by the travelling warrior, Vikor, who then took him to the Goddess to be healed along with two others. Through this process, Oo-Larr is transformed into the Barbarian He-Man. Now he swears to fight for all that is Good.

    Kaltiss: A stranger from a strange world, Kaltiss landed on the primitive world of Eternia after he was teleported there during the Second Ultimate Battleground. Having been separated from the Hive Mind, Kaltiss slowly developed empathy for life around him. And in turn, he rejected his old ways, intent on redeeming his brood for the crimes they caused. Sensing this new arrival's newfound empathy, the Goddess tested this by summoning a Great Dragon to [presumably] attack her. Once Kaltiss defeated the creature, the Goddess gave him the armour and mantle of the Space-Ace He-Man.

    Tank-Head; The Military He-Man, Tank-Head was once known as Cy-Chop; A former member of the Fighting Foe Men who served alongside Demo-Man during the conquest of Subternia. It was he was responsible for the discovery of several Monogram-Class vehicles thought to have been destroyed during the Great Cataclysm that destroyed Eternian civilisation. Among them were the Attack-Trak, the Roton, the Talon Fighter and the Wind Raider. Naturally, he ended up being betrayed by his comrades and left for dead. Rebuilt into a walking arsenal, Tank-Top has pledged his impressive firepower and raw strength to the destruction of the Fighting Foe-Men and the liberation of Eternia, seeking to atone for his past sins.

    The Green Goddess; The spiritual embodiment of all the good magic in Eternia, the Green Goddess is a benevolent entity said to have existed since long before the Great Cataclysm. A motherly presence to those who are pure of heart, the Goddess is the sworn enemy of Demo-Man and protector of the secretive Castle Grayskull. Upon sensing Demo-Man's return, she enlisted the help of Vikor to find three Champions worthy of becoming her He-Men.

    Vikor; Champion of the Goddess, Vikor is a Northman who serves the Goddess in her fight against the foul machinations of the Fighting Foe Men. Has a vendatta against the Fighting Foe-Man known as Sky-High. Now he trains the three novice Champions in the ways of combat, subjecting them each to a harsh training regime. Despite being on the side of good, he does not suffer fools lightly.

    Captain Marlena Glenn; An astronaut from Earth, Captain Marlena was part of Colonel John Blackstar's proposed voyage to Mars, along with a scientist named Evelyn Prowers and her brutish bodyguard, James Erwin. But when their ship got caught in a black hole, Marlena was separated from her crew, ending up being stranded on this savage new world. Unfortunately, she encountered a pack of feral wolves, only to be saved by Oo-Larr. Now she travels alongside Vikor and the He-Men on their quest.

    Allies;

    Gygor; Obedient steed of Oo-Larr, Gygor is a giant gorilla who fought Oo-Larr when he trespassed in his forest. Oo-Larr, despite being outmatched, managed to overpower Gygor without killing the ape. In gratitude for sparing his life, Gygor now fights alongside the Knights of Grayskull in their battle to defeat the Fighting Foe Men.

    Sir Laser-Lot; A wandering Knight Errant who travels Eternia righting wrongs, Sir Laser-Lot is a stranger in a strange land. Originally hailing from Eternia's prehistoric past, Laser-Lot was abducted from his timeline by a mysterious individual claiming to be a time-traveller and ended up being sent to the Future. It was there that he witnessed the Great Cataclysm firsthand. His suit of armour now reduced to being a mere prison, Sir Laser-Lot has spent the last two thousand years wandering the desolate wastes of Eternia, seeking to protect those weaker than himself. Armed with Pre-Cataclysm laser weaponry and a fiery soul, Sir Laser-Lot brings the fight straight to the Foe-Men!

    Strobo; A cosmic bounty hunter from beyond the stars, Strobo is a force of neutrality in the fight between good and evil. Sometimes he aids Demo-Man in searching for the Swords, and sometimes he helps the He-Men in thwarting Demo-Man's plan. Whatever his goal, Strobo is dedicated to maintaining the cosmic balance between good and evil. And he is determined not to let anyone compromise that goal.

    The Fearless Photog; A remnant of technology thought destroyed by the Cataclysm long ago, Photog started life as a planetary satellite monitoring the planet's activity. But when the Cataclysm ruined Eternia's peaceful existence two thousand years ago, it forced Photog to crash in the Badlands of Infinitia, dark sister planet of Eternia. Over the years, Photog has slowly gained self-awareness from his unbearably long isolation, evolving to the point of becoming a humanoid capable of distinguishing right from wrong. When he heard about Demo-Man's conquest of Subternia, Photog travelled to Eternia in order to put a stop to the demonic despot.

    The Fighting Foe-Men;

    Demo-Man; A demonic creature hailing from the dark side of Infinitia, Demo-Man arrived on Eternia to colonise it for the arrival of his people. Realising that his people's magical powers would be limited on Eternia, Demo-Man began to sway five barbarians and a WyrmLord to his side, essentially convincing them to do his dirty work whilst disguising his true purpose [which is to seize control over Eternia's true secrets-in particular, the secrets of Castle Grayskull]. Ruthless, cold and despotic, Demo-Man will stop at nothing until all of Eternia is under the grip of Darkness. He cares nothing for those under his command, and would sacrifice them in an instant. Curiously, he lusts over the Green Goddess, seeking to make her his bride.

    Draego-Man; One of the last WyrmLords left on Eternia, Draego-Man is a bloodthirsty creature of infinite power and absolute terror. Seeking revenge on Eternia's savage tribes for driving his people into extinction, he joined Demo-Man in his quest to obtain the secrets of Castle Grayskull. Despite this, he barely hides the contempt he has for his fellow Foe-Men, seeing them as unclean mammals unworthy of licking his scaly boots. As a WyrmLord, Draego-Man can freely corrupt any wyrm into doing his bidding.

    Sky-High; An outcast from the Mountain-city of Avion, Sky-High was thrown out from Avion when he was framed for sparking a bloody war between the Avians and the Andreenids that resulted in the Avians losing half of their best warriors and having to kneel before the Andreenids. Angered that his own people would suspect him of such treachery, Sky-High discarded the wings of his people and wandered the land, seeking vengeance on those who wrongfully framed him. Unfortunately, Demo-Man came to him in a vision and slowly corrupted his mind into believing that Castle Grayskull was responsible for the deaths of his people. Now he flies the Wind Raider, as a defiant gesture towards his Avian heritage.

    Dog-A-Tor; Once a mere scavenger picking from the scraps of dead technology, Dog-A-Tor abandoned this petty career when he was approached by Demo-Man. Upon being offered the chance to plunder and pillage to his heart's content, Dog-A-Tor dedicated himself to serving his new Master. It was he who led the assault on Subternia, and it was also he who claimed the once-noble Talon Fighter as his own personal vehicle. He takes pride in soaring the skies, only to rain fiery death upon those who oppose his master.

    Sherrilyn; Former Shield Maiden of the Men-At-Arms tribe, Sherrilyn was a spiteful little pixie even back then. Inside, she believed that she was better than the doddering male fools who tinker with obsolete technology. Seeing this inner hatred Sherrilyn had felt toward her people, Demo-Man offered her a chance to seek something much more rewarding; power. Liking the sound of Demo-Man's offering, Sherrilyn betrayed her tribe by leading them into an ambush where Demo-Man slaughtered the lot of them. Sherrilyn, the only one left alive, than swore her undying allegiance towards Demo-Man. Her inflated ego often clashes with Dog-A-Tor's barbarism, Sky-High's bloodlust and Ditztroyer's overwhelming pessimism. Pilots the Attack Trak.

    Ditztroyer; A blue-skinned former member of the Archivists, a race dedicated to preserving thought-to-be forgotten knowledge, Ditztroyer had not always been pessimistic. When he was younger, he genuinely believed that the knowledge his brothers salvaged could save millions if used correctly. But that optimism was shattered when he saw the true face of his order; cold, mindless, thoughtless. Confronted with that sheer display of betrayal, Ditztroyer was slowly manipulated by Demo-Man into turning his brothers' knowledge against them, killing them one by one. Once he regained his senses, Ditztroyer was overcome with sheer guilt and remorse from his actions. But Demo-Man had other plans for him, as he painfully rewrote Ditztroyer's personality into a joyless pessimist. To him, there is no joy, no good. Only strength and the will to use said strength for evil. Pilots the Roton.

    Other Villains;

    Mosquitor; A vampiric creature from the caverns of Subternia, Mosquitor is evil to the core. Sneaky, underhanded, and vicious, Mosquitor lives for only one purpose; draining blood from his victims so that he may continue to survive. Ever since Demo-Man occupied Subternia, the angered Mosquitor has ventured above-ground to a world that thrives with living, breathing prey. And he is happy.

    Batros; A recluse who dwells in the ruins of Preternian Eternos, Batros is a quiet, underhanded creature addicted with gathering forbidden or thought-to-be lost knowledge. And he will resort to any underhanded means necessary to get that information.

    Megator; A vicious green-skinned Giant who resides in the Frozen North, Megator rules over his icy domain with an iron fist. Though evil, he has no desire to be affiliated with any major faction, and will fight any who dare to trespass within his domain. Keeps a souvenir of a long-dead giant in his Cave as a trophy.

    Neutral;

    Procrustus; A titanic four-armed God that resides within the Centre of Eternia, it is He who holds both Subternia and Eternia together through his phenomenal strength. Although neutral, Procrustus is prone to venturing above the surface once every thousand years to search for sustenance.

    Guardian of Grayskull; The physical embodiment of Grayskull itself, the Guardian is a mindless entity that serves only the one who returns both of it's swords and it's shield. A savage warrior of stone and fire, the Guardian is an unstoppable golem who is torn between the Power Swords of Good and Evil. Whoever holds either one of his swords and the Guardian's shield shall command this merciless golem.

    More! More! I love stuff dealing with the post apocalyptic roots of MOTU. Loving the characterizations and intricacies of this canon you're working on. I also love how you're pulling from various times and lores to make a new amalgamation.

    I really like this stuff, even though personally I've envisioned Dawg-o-Tor as a lost second-wave Heroic Warrior.

    Knights of Grayskull- Story Ideas

    Since I don't have the main characters yet [I purchased a weaponless DC V MOTU Mer-Man and Vykron's armour, both of which should take at least two or three weeks to arrive], here are some plot summaries for the issues-to-come.

    Main Storyline;

    Chapter 1; Rise of Darkness-Summary; The origin[s] of Oo-Larr, Tank-Head and Kaltiss begins here! First appearance[s] of Oo-Larr, Demo-Man, the Fighting Foe-Men [Sky-High, Dog-A-Tor, Draego-Man, Sherrilyn and Ditztroyer], Tail-Lash, Captain Glenn, Vikor, The Goddess, Tank-Head, as well as first mentioning of the 'Weapons of Grayskull'.

    Chapter 2; Hope For Eternia-Summary; Seeking to test her new trio of He-Men's true capabilities, the Goddess sends the group to three different locations, in order to see if her champions are truly strong enough to face 'what lies ahead'. Oo-Larr is dispatched to the Frozen North to test his endurance. Kaltiss is sent to the Sands of Time as a test for his courage. And Tank-Head is teleported to the ruins of Eternos, capital of Eternia before the Cataclysm, as a test of his strength of will. Meanwhile, Vikor travels to the remains of Talon Mountain, determined to beat the Foe-Man known as Sky-High in a duel of blades. And while all of this is going on, the Goddess has visions of a mysterious Warrior from beyond the stars. First appearance[s] of Megator, Gygor, and Batros.

    Chapter 3; Portal to Despondos-Summary; A meteorite from outer space crashes in the middle of the Badlands, radiating with energy from Infinitia. Detecting this energy, the Goddess sends Tank-Head to investigate the crash-site. At the same time, Demo-Man detects this spike of energy before ordering Sherrilyn to find this spike of energy. Just as the two arrive at the scene, Sherrilyn recognizes Tank-Head as one of her former comrades before instigating a fight. This fight soon awakens the meteorite, revealing a camera-headed machine by the name of Photog, who drives Sherrilyn away before stating his agenda; he had tracked down Demo-Man from the realm of Despondos with the intent of pacifying said threat. Overhearing this, Sherrilyn contacts Demo-Man before Demo-Man orders her and the other Foe-Men

    Minus a deceased Sky-High
    to stop Tank-Head from discovering Demo-Man's true secret. But tensions rise between Tank-Head and Photog, as Photog slowly recognises the true face behind his mask. Meanwhile, a mysterious knight from the West appears at the doors of Castle Grayskull, demanding to see the Goddess. First appearance[s] of Photog and Sir Laser-Lot. First mention of Strobo, as well as Tank-Head's past.

    Chapter 4; Behold, the Guardian!- Summary;

    Tiring of a continuing string of stalemates and failures at the hands of the Knights of Grayskull, Demo-Man reveals his ultimate goal; to capture Grayskull's power and use it to bring his race of Demons to Eternia, transforming the planet into a hellish nightmare
    . Upon learning that the Goddess had sent the He-Men to find the Weapons of Grayskull, he tasks Draego-Man to find them first. And during this chase, a Cosmic Enforcer known as Strobo has unexpectedly appeared before the He-Men and Draego-Man, aiding and hindering them both. But what are the secrets of Castle Grayskull? And could this have something to do with a stone atronach wearing the face of Grayskull haunting the Castle? First appearance of Strobo and the Guardian of Grayskull [AKA, Grayskullman].

    Chapter 5; The Ultimate Battleground-Summary; Now

    holding one of the Guardian's twin swords and it's shield
    , Demo-Man rallies his demonic kin for a final assault on the Castle. It's all-or-nothing, as the Knights find themselves to be the only ones standing between Demo-Man's mad quest for power and the raging animal hidden beneath Grayskull. Is the Guardian protecting Grayskull from evil, or

    is the Goddess trying to protect the world from Grayskull?

    Side-Stories;

    Enter...The Mosquitor!-Summary; Set three years before the beginning of the series, a mining operation conducted by the Foe-Men in an attempt to tunnel under Grayskull through the caves of Subternia goes awry when Demo-Man detects a dark presence. Unwittingly, Dog-a-Tor uncovers the lair of an ancient evil; a bloodsucking walking parasite by the name of Mosquitor. Let loose above the surface, the creatures makes his home in the Caves of Minax. Rumours soon begin to spread as tribals seen in the area slowly vanish. Those rumours attract the attention of Captain Glenn, who travels to the Caves in order to combat this evil menace. But will she survive, or will her lifeless body be consumed by the darkness?

    Procrustus Rises!-Summary; Set between Chapters 2 & 3, a mysterious series of tremors shake the foundations of Grayskull. Fearing an impending threat, the Goddess decides to venture to the Centre of Subternia in order to investigate. What she finds is that the titanic God-Being Procrustus has grown hungry for living flesh, and is trying to claw his way out from the Core. Alone in the depths, the Goddess must confront this enraged menace before he threatens all of Eternia.

    Since I don't want to keep y'all waiting.

    Here are five preview images of the Vehicle redesigns for the Wind Raider, the Attak Trak, the Battle Ram [Sky Sled included], the Roton and the Talon Fighter. These were made by me out of Blu-Tak and coloured via Pixelmator.

    Author's note.

    It seems I have overestimated my budget. Right now, I have purchased two Classics Figures, and have not the budget to purchase any more for quite a while [not accounting for me needing five Griffons, Castle Greyskull itself, most of the main cast and proper vehicles instead of these coloured-in Blutak placeholders]. But, to give everyone a taste of what's to come, here's a teaser I whipped up; SkullGray.jpg You'll notice a picture up on the top-right part of the teaser. That there is the new logo, representing the Swords of Good and Evil, crossed to represent the balance between light and dark. Until I've conjured up some more cash, I'll postpone Knights of Grayskull to work on a much bigger [and more ambitious] project.

    Agreed. I can see why, though I prefer him to be evil since I have a pet peeve about a fantasy world where most of the good guys are handsome humans, whereas the bad guys all have to be ugly monsters.

    Slightly unrelated

    I was looking at Earth 2 Wonder Woman, and thought to myself 'what if Teela wore that outfit?'. And it kind of spun off from there, partially from my disappointment toward Battleground Teela's design. Really, Scott? A battle bikini and furry underpants is what the heir to the Sorceress gets? After all the crap she went through, she gets to be glorified cheesecake, while He-Man gets to go to the past AND the future? Anyway, here's my redesign of Battleground Teela. She's still blonde, but she's got a little more armour on, plus some orange armour to pay tribute to Man-at-Arms. Or, alternatively, this costume could represent Teela's ancestor on her father's side, the warrior woman Tee-La.

    *sigh* Back to the old Drawing Board

    Bit of some news, everyone. It appears that I might've made a mistake with one of the characters. Specifically, the Space Ace He-Man. Now originally I thought the Space Ace armour for Vykron could work for a Snake-Man body. However, I've come across a bump in the road; namely that the Snake Man body [specifically the scalier one] has a lot of excessive bulk on the torso and the neck. That, combined with the arms and legs, means that the armor just slides off because there's nothing for the armor clips to-well-clip on to. Much to the Goddess' irritation.

    However, I do have two ideas for replacement members.

    Replacement 1: Since I mentioned the Andreenids in Sky-High's bio, I had the idea that the Space Ace He-Man could nicely complement both Tank-Head and Oo-Larr, serving as a balancing point between cold machinery and mammalian barbarism. Namely that this version of the Space-Ace He-Man could be an inexperienced Andreenid warrior who seeks to prove himself in the eyes of his older kinsbugs. I could simply wiggle Buzz-Off's shell from his torso and give him both a more insectoid head and a 'visored' head.

    Replacement 2: A much simpler option would be getting a Webstor body and Dawg-o-Tor boots/arms to create a spiderlike Space-Ace He-Man candidate. Hey, the setting for Knights of Grayskull mentioned mutations, right? So why not a Spider-Man?

    Alright, I have a question.

    I've brainstormed from my previous post, and I've come up with two new Space-Ace He-Men. Tell me which one is better.

    Tunnel-Web: A stranger from a strange time, Tunnel-Web is one of the last surviving Arachna left on Eternia after the Great Wars decimated the planet two thousand years ago. He awoke from his slumber to find Eternia utterly destroyed. With the Hive Mind decimated, Tunnel-Web slowly developed empathy for life around him. Seeing how precious it was, he rejected his old ways, intent on redeeming his kind by protecting those who are weak. Sensing this new arrival's newfound empathy, the Goddess tested this by summoning a Great Dragon to [presumably] attack her. Once he defeated the creature, the Goddess gave him the armour and mantle of the Space-Ace He-Man to carry out his agenda.

    Hornn: A young Andreenid of the Silver Stinger Tribe, Hornn came of age a week prior to the events of this story. Chosen by the elder of his tribe, Horrn went on a walkabout to retrieve the Amber Halberd and prove himself a man in the eyes of his people. But while he was away, the Fighting Foe-Man named Sky-High raized his ancestral hive to the ground, slaughtering every single man, woman and youngling. When he retrieved the Halberd, Horrn was unaware of the horrors that his tribe witnessed. But when he made his way back, the Goddess distracted him from his quest by summoning a Great Dragon to presumably attack her. Upon Hornn defeating the imaginary creature, the Goddess congratulated him on slaying the creature, but informed him that his tribe was utterly decimated. Seeing such sorrow in Hornn's eyes, the Goddess gave him the armour and mantle of the Space-Ace He-Man to avenge his fallen tribe by bringing light back to Eternia.
