I picked up my shirt tonight. It looks great. All you Mazters need to pick one up.

I'm off to SD tomorrow bright and early. Gotta beat Dave and his posse in line. See you guys at the con.
May I have ten thousand marbles, please?

Now THIS is a childhood flashback! I just won these on E-Bay and they were delivered yesterday.

I never got to see the final comic in this trilogy, until now that is and it was great! A twenty year wait ended, and I have to admit I always did prefer DC's portrayal of MOTU.

Heads up to everyone going to SDCC!

    STOLEN FROM ANOTHER TOY FORUM.

"Since we are a Comic-Con exhibitor we have been getting up to date information on the event and we just heard of the latest (and WORST) rule Comic Con has initiated for this year:

All limited edition give aways and/or Convention exclusive products must be coordinated with Comic-Con International staff. Limited edition giveaways (LEG) and/or Convention exclusive Products (CEP) may NOT be distributed and/or purchased on a first come, first served basis. Any attendee who wishes to purchase a "LEG' and/or "CEP" must be issued a 'raffle-style' ticket or sign-up for a random drawing.
Every attendee may only enter once; a certain amount will be given-away and/or puchased everyday.
    END MESSAGE

    My God...

I bet Dave, Troy andeveryone else had a siezure at seeing the prototypes. Hopefully it means we'll see them and Mattell wont pull the plug before full production, the fact that they are just prototypes does make me worry.

So how was it to get to see Hordak in all his figurine glory? I really hope we get that figure. It must have been exciting to see all those prototypes just waiting for the ok to be mass produced.

It was great to see all the new prototypes. For me, the best part was preview night. The first place I went was the NECA line to get Hordak. I could see the Masters banners at the Mattel booth from there, which really pumped me up. Luckily I got the Hordak before it went lotto. That bust right there was reason enough to go to the con. It is freaking awesome!

Adventures in San Diego or How I Learned to Cry Again

Ah Preview night. A late departure from New Mesaco all but assured our inability to see the figures Wednesday night by 8:30pm. Undaunted we pressed on. Cruise Control works even through the mountain passes outside of San Diego! (though the accompanying tire squeal of an 80mph Taurus hurtling through 65mph corners unsettled my beloved wife). My copilot's flawless navigation placed me in front of the hotel at 8:27pm. With no parking in sight I summoned my best Salesman skills and negotiated parking for $3 in the hotel next door. Armed with the best negotiating tools one could ask for, a charming wife and a cute 30 month old son, I figured I could smooth talk my way into the hall despite its closure.

My out of shape sprint left me less than glib. My son, crying from the jostling, wasn't the picture of innocent perfection, and my wife's obvious ire at hearing me complain about leaving so late for the last 5 hours dampened her natural charm. With 3 strikes I had no chance at the guards who turned me away with ease and impunity.

Crushed we stood in line, obtained our badges, and vowed for an early Thursday arrival. Definitely be at the doors at 10am.

Dateline: 11am (no comment). Still looking for a place to park (happens when the only hotel available was 10 miles inland).

Dateline: noon. Found the Petco parking garage (no negotiating allowed here), haggled with a peticab, and arrived at the promised lands mere minutes later. Straight to MOTU I promised myself. Little did I plan for...Star Wars.

We walked into the building and my son spied Storm Troopers. Lots of them. And a Tusken Raider. A Jawa. Boba Fett? Yep. Darth Vader too. The list goes on and on. To my son (who has never seen the movie, only played with my toys) this was heaven. I have never seen him so enthralled (well, this changes in a bit, see below). So an hour of mingling, pictures, handshaking (and a great Tusken Raider scaring children) passes and it is off to Hordak. Here is the conversation:

    WHAT?!? I can't BUY him?
    Nope you need a ticket.
I have to have a ticket???????
    Yessir. 4pm is the drawing.
    ARGH. Give me the ticket.

"Oh yeah, how soon till the Balrog is produced?" (I saw the coolest giant balrog statue there)
"Should go for $70 sometime next year".
    It is awesome!

Raffle ticket in hand it was off to secure a She-ra. WHAT?!?!? A raffle ticket AGAIN???? 4pm till the #s are drawn??? ARGH!!!! Alright, give it to me.

    Now where is Galactus?

    Insert Dramatic Long Pause Here

The Galactus booth had no line. My spider-senses tingled immediately. What is wrong here? Trepidatiously I walked up and, to my undying horror, read the sign: Winning Numbers for Today are xxxxxxxxx.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO!

Seeing a grown man cry unsettled the boothkeeper who offered sage advice, "Come back tomorrow. Before Noon." Ah, Noon, I was getting on a peticab at Noon. The ride no longer had the pleasant memories it had had minutes before.

I tried to rally. I'll win Hordak and She-ra and with my wife and son be assured of 3 of each! Enough to reward my MOTU brethren in Phoenix (or subsidize the trip, depending on the bills this month :-)). 4pm couldn't come soon enough.

As it turned out I wished it hadn't.

    No Hordak. No She-ra.

I did, however, take some solace in the fact She-ra enraptured my son more than all but the Jawa and Tusken Raider. Which meant *much* time spent holding him as she fawned, he smiled and I smiled (heh heh). My camera wielding wife seemed to not shooting this particular heroine with the enthusiasm my son and I had for her!

Oh, some of you are probably wondering about Star Wars exclusives. The line was long so I didn't wait, figuring it'd slim down. Yeah, it did, AFTER THE TICKETS WERE GONE! Talk about being a newbie!

Much browsing in an attempt to shake my blues ensued. Right up to closing. Over dinner we strategized about the next day's plan. Galactus. Hordak. She-ra. Star Wars. Victory is mine! We discarded the losing tickets of the day in a ceremonious flushing of defeat. We would be winners!

    Friday Morning
Dateline 11:00am. Petco parking here we are. (Yep, 11 again, no comment)
Straight to Galactus I went dragging my son past the Star Wars folks. Yeah he cried. But I had to the day before and wasn't about to again.

Tickets securely in hand and eagerly anticipating our 2pm victory we went to the Hordak booth for our daily draws. The line was empty. Strange.

    "Three tickets please"
    "All gone"
"Excuse me? You've been open an hour and change"
"All given out yesterday. Your ticket is good for the entire convention"

I don't know who's heart hit the ground first, mine or my wife's. Ceremonial flushing...it sounded good at the time! The cold slap of reality brought tears. Again. Years since I teared up, now a daily occurence!

"So you have some extra for morons, right?"
    "Nope."

Yep, no Hordak on this trip.

Off to She-ra. Tickets received readily. Over dinner we had pondered the wisdom of going in as a family unit and getting 3 sequential numbers versus splitting up the visits to the She-ra booth to get 3 different batches and thereby increase our odds of winning something. We opted for the latter (thereby affording 3 more "chance" She-ra encounters replete with obligatory photos). The drawing being at 4pm we headed over to the Star Wars line. Too long for my sons taste so I waited solo.

    Out of tickets.

I was beginning to hate socialized schemas wherein all are given an equal chance for victory.

2pm. We run to claim our Galactuses (never pluralized that word before). Ticket numbers memorized I was sure we'd win. I didn't count on getting the 3 numbers JUST BEFORE it! Open sobbing ensued.

Three days, three crying sessions. If only my wife had taken even more time getting ready! The people behind us in line, who I hurredly accelerated in front of to get the tickets, must be gloating like the most abyssal fiends.

4pm. Surely She-ra will make all better.
Nope. Not even close. We were so far off I checked to make sure they weren't yesterday tickets but, oh that's right, those had been flushed so these had to be the right ones.

I held back the tears while taking pictures with She-ra in the big clear boxes that look like we are in the carded box as a 2 pack. It looks hokey when you are there but looks cool in the pictures.

Melancholy browsing of the halls led us to Taylor Wane's booth. My son had his first Adult Entertainment interaction on film. My how they grow up fast nowadays.

My son wins an Alien Racers. My wife gets Stikfas. My son, a HALO trooper.

    Me?

I win a shirt for completing a lap on Gran Turismo 4. The shirt? A Gran Turismo THREE left over from 3 years ago. Great job dad my son tells me.

And I bought the Nightmare Before Christmas set. Spent $40. Worth maybe $4 on ebay. Good thing my sister needs a Christmas present!

Friday night. 8pm. In the parking structure. My work calls again. I have to leave. Now.
    WHAT????
Yep, we need you Saturday morning.
    Say when?
    Saturday morning.
Riiiiight. You realize it is 8pm and I am in San Diego?
Great, you can be here by 2am.
(I own the company but my employees know I can't afford to fire them. Being the boss isn't always cool!).

We bid a tearful adieu to the Convention and drove home.

    What did I learn?

A-put your tickets in your badge. Throw away nothing. Mark the date and time on the back.
B-get there early. early early early. Preview night appears to be the best. Each day is progressively more crowded.
C-cute children and charming wives ensure some negotiating success, but the raffle ticket police are unflappable
D-Book your hotel EARLY and NEAR THE CENTER. I thought about booking while there for next year.
E-Take everyone you can think of with you to maximize your chances to win. If you have a family of 3 and you win everything you can easily, via ebay, recoup your trip's cost twice over.
F-Don't skip the freebies. My son's Halo trooper? Going for $20 on ebay. Stikfas? $15. Total cost? Just some smiles.
G-Bring your own food and water. $10 for a burger and fries (no drink) onsite.
H-The preview MOTU figures were enough to make you cry (with joy this time). I can't convey how cool it would be if they made these figures, and even moreso if they made them that large. Imagine a Roto Clawful!

It is freaking awesome!

I am at a loss of words with the news of a 2up prototype of Tung Lashor and none of the other snakemen like Sssqueeze to make its grand appearence with ol' Lashor. After pouring through many, many, many posts about them; I am a bit more concerned about the actions of Mattel and the 4HM of displaying these 2ups. Mattel hasn't said anything on when these will come into mass production and distribution. I am just puzzled about the whole thing. I am hoping we get some kind of news on the future release of figures beyond the repaint waves for later this year. I am just sitting on pins and needles right now to see what kind of move Mattel will be making to assure the future of MOTU.
    Some Sectaur Goals:
#1: Obtain reproductions of each of the five unproduced second series figures including companion beasts and accessories.

    #2: Construct customized figures of-
Gnatseye w/ Jumpyr, Regent Galken, Scorpia, Royal Guard, Skull Soldier, Sting Trooper, Drone Trooper, Thornet, Empress Devora and Wing Warrior w/ flying steed
