This week's cool custom comes from He-Man.org member DJ Force.
"...I started building life-size props in 2010 for the Grayskull Convention in Germany. For 2012, I wanted to build a large size item that would go well with the Castle Grayskull theme. I made the Laser Cannon out of PVC sheets, cut, trimmed and equipped with LED christmas lights. This piece is a faithful recreation of the vintage toy, with some added details to make it look more real. Usually, I take measures from the MOTUC toys and multiply those by ten. With the vintage toys however, this ratio would not work, so I ended up multiplying the measurements by 15.
As with all my props, I always try to add my personal touch. When translating a toy to a lifesize prop, details have to be added to make it look real as opposed to "just" a lifesize toy. I browsed stationary cannons and battleship cannons on the internet and found inspiration for the muzzle-supports and the hose. There are two inserts for the functioning monitor which show either the infamous "DIE DIE" from that scene from The secret of the Sword, or the "Eternian letters" found on the wrist of the Mighty Spector. The cannon top is moveable just like the toy. If you wanna see this and many more lifesize props up close, come to Grayskull Con. There is at least one new large size item and several smaller ones each year."
