He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Magazine
Issue #9, Winter 1987.

"The He-Man Mailbox" hasn't a single "Create A Character" this issue, but it is filled with interesting, thoughtful letters from fans from Florida to Hawaii, commenting on how much they enjoyed and benefitted from last issue's various features. Fan-art is also presented, including drawings of Castle Grayskull, Moss Man, Webstor, and Orko and Dree-Elle!

Feature Story: "Raid on Snake Mountain!"
In this sprawling comic adventure, Skeletor has developed the ultimate weapon in fire-power. All his mighty Destructo-Laser cannon needs to be fully operational is a focusing jewel, and the only known jewel of the proper size and purity is storehoused at Central Tower. He enlists the aid of Scare Glow to cause a diversion, and while the evil ghost holds He-Man, Rio Blast, and Clamp Champ immobilized with terror, Orko manages to slip away, running into Ninjor, leaving Central Tower with the enormous stolen jewel. Orko quickly alerts the others, who snap out of their spell of fright as Scare Glow vanishes. Still weakened by Scare Glow, our heroes are able to challenge Ninjor, but are unable to stop the agile ninja from escaping with the jewel. He-Man decides to play Skeletor's game, and plots a raid on Skeletor's fortress to recover the jewel. The next night, the team of champions infiltrate Snake Mountain's defenses, using Rio's laser pistols (in silent mode) to burn through the steel bars at the gates. Quickly locating the jewel, installed in the Destructo-Laser device and priming its deadly energies, He-Man replaces the real gem with an Orko-conjured duplicate, and the team sets to leave. But they are confronted by Ninjor, who, overcome with overconfidence at his easy victory the night before, falls quickly into the clutches of Clamp Champ's Power Pincers. By now, Skeletor has happened upon the scene of invaders at Snake Mountain, and, unaware of the jewel switch, sets the Destructo-Laser to full power, aiming to wipe the heroes (and apparently Ninjor as well) off the map! But Orko's replacement jewel doesn't work quite as well as the original, and the machine overloads, melting into a useless puddle of slag. As Skeletor screams out in rage, the team departs for home, Clamp Champ and Orko joking about the quality of Orko's magic jewel.

Puzzles and Activities
"Evil On Eternia" presents a 2-page view of the Eternia Towers. Sixteen evil warriors, from Skeletor's Council of Evil, the Horde, and the Snake Men are hidden within the peaceful-looking scene. Find them all, if you can! "Power Puzzles" returns as a 2-page feature, including a Power Sword themed "Super Sword Maze," a "Warrior Word Search," and a large "Cryptic Clues" pictorial crossword grid. "Secret Cipher" presents a holiday message from our Eternian friends, translated into a holiday-themed picture code. A full-page feature covers a lot of ground in the way of He-Man special events. Under the heading "Eternia Power Comes to Earth," the re-airing of "He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special" is mentioned, a small plug for the upcoming "Masters of The Universe: The Motion Picture," mentioning the casting of Frank Langella as Skeletor and Billy Barty as Gwildor, is included, and dates, cities and arenas on the itinerary of the Masters of the Universe "Power Tour" are listed, with more listings promised next issue.

Posters
Poster #17 enlarges the issue's cover, depicting Hordak levelling the destructive power of his Artilleray at He-Man and Rio Blast. Rio goes for his guns, but He-Man has the Beam-Blaster, a weapon destined to send Hordak sprawling. And the holiday season brings us a sheet of Masters of the Universe gift wrap, in lieu of a second poster. The deep blue paper features images of He-Man, Skeletor, King Randor, the Sorceress, Rio Blast, and Orko juggling small Christmas items.

A 7-year-old gymnastics champion from Florida, Eric Ransom, is the he-man of the issue.
