Masters
of the Universe Adventure Magazine
UK. Issue #1, 1987.
The
first issue of the extra-large MOTU magazine, that printed
new, longer stories as well as reprinting older ones
from the regular magazine in full color.
Feature
story 1: "Legend of Grayskull"
Reprinted from issue #1 of the regular magazine.
Feature
story 2: "Battle For Eternia"
The first brand new story in the magazine. Kobra Khan
visits King Hiss with a message from Skeletor, saying
he wants the Snake Men to join him on the Haunted Heath.
But the request did not come from Skeletor... but Horde
Prime! King Hiss, Skeletor, Hordak and their armies
all meet on the Haunted Heath. Skeletor and Hordak quickly
begin to argue, and their armies start to fight each
other- but then Horde Prime appears, shouts at them
to cease, and explains that he has gathered them there
because he is tired of their constant failures to take
over Eternia. He has found out that the core of Eternia
contains a special super-hot plasma, and he wants the
three evil armies to help him steal the heart of Eternia.
Meanwhile, He-Man, Stratos and Buzz-Off are racing across
the skies (He-Man is on a Jet Sled, not flying physically)
when Stratos and Buzz-Off race ahead and are shot down
by the Horde, who catch them in a steel net. Leech then
brings He-Man down with his suction power, and He-man
starts to battle against the evil armies. But in the
net, Buzz-Off manages to bite through with his sharp
teeth, and he and Stratos escape and take the evil warriors
by surprise. Then they rescue He-Man and carry him off
to the Shifting Desert, where they explain to him Horde
Prime's plan. Stratos draws a diagram in the sand, showing
that they have built a Statis Tower capable of sending
great loads into orbit around Eternia, and inside the
tower is a drill which is digging towards Eternia's
core, and will send the plasma shooting into space,
where Horde Prime will collect it. The heroic warriors
find where Hordak, Hiss and Skeletor are using the drill,
and they spring a surprise on them and Stratos turns
the drill on before it has had time to cool down after
its last use. The drill therefore starts to melt down,
the evil warriors retreat, and He-Man moves the drill
to unblock the entrance to the shaft, and Stratos and
Buzz-Off fly He-Man to safety as the tower explodes.
Near the wrecked ground station, the evil warriors fear
what Horde Prime will say to them after their failure,
but get an even bigger shock when Grizzlor realises
that they would have been destroyed along with Eternia
if Horde Prime's plan had worked...
Puzzle:
Battle Squares
Taken from one of the He-Man puzzle books. A game involving
squares with He-Man or Skeletor.
Could
you be a Master of the Universe?

do as a member of the Masters of the Universe.
Feature
story 3: "Skeletor's Surprise"
An account of the Horde's return to Eternia, reprinted
from issue #1 of the regular magazine series.
(A
good first issue- the new "Battle For Eternia"
story would be a bit confusing for people who don't
know much about MOTU- but then, this magazine is aimed
at long-time fans! "Battle for Eternia" is
a great story, it's good to see all the evil armies
working together.
