The
battle is over, Skeletor has been defeated and He-Man's
Earth friends are preparing to return to their own time.
All except for Detective Lubic who, emerging with two
Eternian beauties at his side, announces he's going
to stay.
"The only thing I'll miss is the World Series,"
he says.
Playing the good-natured, smart-mouthed Detective Lubic
offered veteran character actor James Tolkan an opportunity
to break out of the heavy roles he has essayed for many
years.
Tolkan took center stage in the play "Wait Until
Dark" -- a thriller about a psychotic criminal
terrorizing a blind girl -- when, as understudy to Robert
Duvall, he was rushed in after Duvall unexpectedly broke
his hip. That fracture resulted in Tolkan's moving into
the limelight for the play's two-year run.
His other theatrical credits include "Three Sisters,"
"Glengarry Glen Ross" and "Wings."
Tolkan's numerous film credits include "Back to
the Future," "Top Gun," "Love and
Death," "A View from the Bridge" and
"Prince of the City."
But Tolkan is the first to concede that his role in
"Masters of the Universe" is definitely a
change of pace, commenting, "I mean, can you tell
me when was the last time I even lived to the last reel
of a film, let alone got the girl?"
