Ever
since the new Masters of the Universe line debuted in August,
fans have been asking tons of questions! And, in true fashion,
Mattel took time out of their very busy schedule to
sit down and answer many of these for you, the fans!
What of the Commemorative rereleases? It looks like fans have
seen the last of these great assortments. The 2nd 5-Pack and
2nd wave are currently hitting the shelves. And once they
are gone, that will be all she wrote.
And speaking of Commemorative rereleases, the very impressive
JC
Penney's exclusive 10 pack is now on sale for 99.00! What
a deal!
Although
the Commemorative series is almost at an end, the new line
certainly isn't! And Mattel has tons of details about it.
Since the launch of the line was pushed back, people have
wanted to know exactly when they'll see their favorite sculpted
Eternians hitting the shelves. The first ship date is mid-June
of 2002 for the US and Canada. A worldwide release is planned,
but details have not yet been released.
There have been rumors about a few figures being released
for this Christmas. Sorry, but that is merely a rumor. Mid-June
2002, and no sooner.
And
what about the new line? Will fans get to see the new Orko
and Teela designs?
Well, say no more! Mattel has provided the fans with some
great images of the new line including the new
Teela and Orko!!!
The
new line of Masters of the Universe toys!...coming your
way mid-June 2002!
Aside
from Orko and Teela, Mattel is uncertain exactly who will be
in Wave III of the new toy line. But, we are sure it will be
a pleasant surprise when we all find out!
Many
fans are curious why Teela didn't debut the same time as the
rest of the line. She is still scheduled to be part of the
Heroic Warriors. Historically, female characters sell disproportionately
to male characters in male action lines. Probably because
some young males fear that girls still have cooties. But for
the adult collectors who know better, characters like Teela
will be part of the excitement of the new line.
And what of Orko's size? Well, he's scaled to fit with the
rest of the line. He's smaller in frame, but taller than the
80's model. We think Orko may have cast a growth spell upon
himself that he couldn't reverse.
Plus, don't think for a moment that the Four Horsemen forgot
about Orko's patented "O." Instead of being on his
robe, it is now incorporated into his pendant. Huge Masters
of the Universe fans like the Four Horsemen wouldn't leave
out details like that!
Many
fans want to know about the story that will be told in the
new series. Will it pick up where it left off, or start from
scratch? All signs point to a reboot of our favorite tale.
Most children today aren't familiar with He-Man. Mattel feels
it is better to start fresh in order to introduce a new generation
to the Masters of the Universe, but at the same time be mindful
of the story that has already been told.
How
big will the figures be? Many wanted to know and Mattel provided
the specifics. They are six inches tall. This isn't a far
cry from the original height of five and a half inches. So,
for the most part, the new line will be interchangeable with
the old. Mattel knows, they have been playing with the classic
figures and the new figures quite a bit.
As an added bonus, peg holes have been added to the bottom
of their feet. This not only aids in posing the figure, but
makes them more playable with new vehicles and playsets which
will accommodate these peg holes.
There
has been rumors about a Kung Fu He-Man. Mattel says there
is no such figure in the lineup. But, Mattel is looking at
all kinds of ways that He-Man can charge into battle. There
will be themes familiar to children today that will be incorporated
into He-Man and the land of Eternia.
Fans want to know which characters are going to see new life
in this spectacular new line! Mattel is going to look at ways
of revising and updating existing characters, as well as adding
new characters. But, only time will tell who those characters
will be.
How detailed will these figures be? Well, for starters they'll
be loaded with paint ops and lots of detail! The new figures
have lots of articulation and are sculpted in posed positions,
ready for battle. But don't worry, Mattel designed the figures
so that even with their poses, they can all fit onto and/or
into all of the vehicles, Battlecat, and Panthor... well,
except for poor Ram-Man.
Mattel receives a lot of requests for She-Ra. No plans are
made for her at this time, but, they are definitely making
a note of her popularity!
Many
fans were disappointed that mini-comics were dropped from
the new line. Mattel may once again look into this as an option.
Many
fans would love to see unreleased or rare figures revamped.
Hero, Eldor, Fearless Photog, Megator, and Titus are of particular
interest to fans. But, most likely they will never come to
be. Anything is a possibility in the future...Except for the
movie figures. Don't expect to see them again.
And what about the new Castle Grayskull? Could it come with
an exclusive Sorceress? Well, no... but it would have been
nice! Castle Grayskull will be available Fall of 2002, loaded
with new and exciting features never seen in toys before!
More details on this will be at the 2002 Toy Fair.
No word on a new cartoon, but Mattel says to "stay tuned."
heh heh
And yes! Ram-Man will have his spring loaded legs once again!
The new figures will have all sorts of cool features!
Evil-Lyn
has been considered for the Evil Warriors along with some
other top candidates.
No word on a new Snake Mountain, but Mattel is looking into
it.
The Deluxe figures for 2002 will come with videos. Mattel
may continue doing this for future assortments, but they have
not made a final decision.
And
what about Mattel's own Masters of the Universe site? As the
line gets closer to launch, Mattel will be aiming for monthly
updates with new images... hopefully with interactive extras
for fans. Mattel is also in the midst of putting together
a mailing list for people interested in receiving news on
the new line.
And keep those peepers peeled for the new ToyFare with even
more pics of the new line! But, don't be alarmed when you
see something claiming He-Man is from Hasbro! Ignore that,
it's a ToyFare boo-boo which they will make amends for as
soon as the issue hits the stands. Hey, accidents happen.
And besides, we ALL know He-Man comes from the one and only
Mattel!
Stay tuned for more MOTU news, and the new He-Man.org which
will be here in time for the holidays...unless Skeletor takes
over. But, that seems rather unlikely.
November

Mattel,
has released the following statement about the delay of the
new figures:
"Since
we showed the line of newly tooled figures at Comic-Con in
July, the response from the media and fans alike has been
overwhelmingly positive. We have taken that enthusiasm and
to continue to build upon it for the re-launch of He Man and
the Maters of the Universe.
Mattel
is committed to making this re-launch event the largest in
its Male Action group history. As such, we have postponed
the launch of the brand until July/Aug 2002 to coincide with
a one-hour, never-before told television special that will
chronicle the story of how Prince Adam became He-Man, thus
communicating a strong message to kids at ONE time. By building
Masters of the Universe awareness among today's kids, we are
hopeful that the action figure line will quickly grow into
one of the most successful male action brands of all time...
AGAIN!"
Make
sure you check out the News Archive for tons of pics of the
new figures from their debut at San Diego Comic Con 2001!
November

Mattel
has announced that the new line of Masters of the Universe
toys will be delayed until later in 2002.
But why? Many want to know...and Mattel is happy to tell the
fans.
There have been rumors about why Mattel has delayed the release.
But, it's simply a matter of Mattel debuting the new line
with a bang!
Instead of introducing assortments over the course of the
next year, the whole first wave of toys is going to hit stores
at one time!
He-Man is exploding onto shelves, taking the toy market by
storm!!
And what could make this momentous event even better? A one
hour television special that not only introduces Masters of
the Universe to a new generation, but once and for all tells
the definitive tale of how Prince Adam became the Most Powerful
Man in the Universe!
Stay tuned for more details from Mattel!

The
new Masters of the Universe line continues to get better.
Wave III is set to include Teela and Orko, and some speculation
to a Martial Arts He-man (not confirmed) No word on evil warriors
for this assortment.
There
has been concern that the new line, scheduled for release
before November 25th, has been delayed until sometime in 2002.
No definitive word has been released by Mattel about this.
Keep
checking back for more details.

second wave of Commemorative rereleases hit stores in October,
consisting of:
The second Commemorative 5 pack is due for release in mid
November, which includes:
Battle Armor He-Man
Battle Armor Skeletor
Clawful
Stratos
and an exclusive Moss-Man.
Mattel
would like to apologize to fans for some production errors
on the first wave of Commemorative figure releases. It seems
that the Trap-Jaw figure was released without his hook, and
the Faker figure came without his chest sticker.
When
reproducing these figures Mattel relied heavily on their own
product samples, archived from the release of the original
line, which turned out to be incomplete. This resulted in
the missing accessories.
That's
right! Come mid-December, He-Man.org will have a new look!
Through the creative efforts of Matt R. and Adam Tyner,
He-Man.org went on to become the #1 stop for fans everywhere...and
it keeps growing!
He-Man.org has teamed with the creators of MOTU Unbound to
create a whole new vision for the site.
Not only will the site's main graphics will have a new look,
but over time all pictures and photos will be upgraded with
better images bringing all things MOTU to life!
Look forward to a more detailed variations listing, containing
releases from South America to Europe.
The MOTU movie section will see a big upgrade, with a new
review and commentary, plus new pictures and information.
Expect to see a section devoted to the various promotional
and merchandising options created over the years, including
all sorts of licensed products, catalogs, advertisements,
and more!
And hopefully, with a little hardwork, the MOTU Encyclopedia
will finally happen. It will go deep into the Masters of the
Universe canon, exploring almost everything you can think
of.
All of this is brought to you by the creative minds of Emiliano
Santalucia and Alessio Di Marco.
Emiliano's and Alessio's site, www.mastersunbound.com, will
serve as He-Man.org's sister site giving the same news, resources,
and information to all the Italian MOTU fans in the world.
Who would have thought we'd ever go bilingual?
In the months following the debut of the new look, a ton of
interactive elements will be introduced by Adam Tyner to give
fans everywhere the Masters of the Universe resources you've
always wanted. And to make it even better, fellow fan Josh
De Lioncourt will be helping to maintain this interactive
masterpiece, adding to it as time goes on.
What will you see? Well:
Automated Fan-Art, Fan-Fic and Customized figure picture uploads
Book, Comic, Minicomic, and Magazine fan reviews
Toy reviews and rating system
Cartoon reviews and rating system
And an all improved Links section for listing sites from all
our fellow fans!
With a new era of Masters of the Universe on the horizon,
it's only logical that the internet's best Masters of the
Universe site follow in Mattel's footsteps. Expect great things
to come from He-Man.org!

Okey-doke,
here's the latest news on the upcoming line of Masters
of the Universe figures, courtesy of the fine folks at
Mattel. You can look forward to the first batch of figures
a little earlier than expected -- they'll be on shelves in
time for Christmas, Hannakah, or the late December festivity
of your choice.
Every figure will come with the peel-'n-stick sticker of the
new MOTU logo, and both the Battle Hawk vehicle and Battle
Ram Chariots will come with figures in tow. Speaking of spiffy
extras, the two deluxe figures, Battle Sound He-Man and Battle
Sound Skeletor, will have a commemorative reissue of an episode
of the original animated series included. The episodes currently
being considered are The Diamond Ray Of Disappearance,
Dragon Invasion, and the fan-favorite The Problem
With Power.
We've gotten quite a bit of e-mail asking about the poster
in some of those Comic-Con shots from days past. It's not
available at this time, but Mattel is investigating ways to
reissue it for rabid fans such as ourselves, and future posters
from Ken Kelly or other talented artists are a definite possibility.
On the re-release tip, the second assortment is due in October,
with the second five-pack hitting stores the following month.
The exclusive figure only available in the five-pack will
be Moss Man.
That's it for now! Many thanks to Mattel and he-man.org benefactor
deluxe JVS3 for this mountain of information.

San Diego was a huge success!
Marketing
Masters Jennifer and Roy smile with joy alongside a sold out
promotional figure. The 2up statue didn't create a dime of
profit for Mattel, making it even more special for all. "We
did it for the fans," said Ned Ward, Heroic Master of Action
Marketing. Whether it was the Four Horsemen, Ken Kelly, or
the wonderful Mattel crew, all of them were there with big
smiles rolling out the red carpet for what had to be the best
event of the convention.
The
special 2-up statue was gone before the end of the show, as
well as all of the free t-shirts, stickers, and posters. Fans
poured into the booth Thursday through Sunday, from opening
to closing. It was an incredible sight to witness. We can't
wait to see what's in store for next year!
Also,
Meghan McAnally points out that He-Man is in the July 30th
issue of Time magazine, along with Voltron and the
Transformers. The short article describes toy nostalgia for
the 1980s, and half the article focuses on the Masters of
the Universe re-releases specifically. Pick up a copy today!
Finally,
He-Man.org garnered a mention on Lockergnome,
a site boasting over 200,000 e-mail subscribers. Stop on by
and gaze in awe.

WOW.
There was a HUGE turnout for the unveiling of the new line.
Mattel was there in full force, giving out posters and free
2-up figures in a random drawing for some lucky fans! Mattel
is really backing this release -- it's a big deal.
There
will be interviews and more photos throughout the weekend
on He-Man.org. Plus, plenty of other press and television
crews were there to film the premiere. But now, onto the pictures!!
You'll find us mentioned in the upcoming issue of ToyFare.
The article gives sole credit of the site to our very own
PR mogul JVS3, though he assures us this is not what he told
them. Basically, it's just poorly fact-checked in general.
It's nice to see us gaining some recognition for once, though;
oh wait, they didn't even give out our URL right ("HeMan.org").
Awesome!
I
also finally killed off the ICQ Community that I created back
in 1998. I haven't used ICQ for going on 3 years now, and
it's a sign when your personal details are over 4 years old.
Although it was the #1 animation group! Always nice to go
out on top.

The ten-pack we mentioned earlier is now available through
JC Penny's website, though it won't ship until July 19th.
That's all well and good, but there's big news afoot. Next
Spring, Mattel will launch a new line of figures, recreating
the storyline we all know and love. That's right -- no wacky
misadventures on Primus. These new figures, sculpted by the
Four Horsemen but not in the MacFarlane hyper-detailed style,
will debut on July 19th at the San Diego Comic Con, as well as on the
new MastersOfTheUniverse.Com, which
should launch sometime later today. MastersOfTheUniverse.com
is Mattel's official MOTU site, which will include some design
sketches for the new line, the re-releases, and a very special
2-up limited edition cold cast that will only be available
at the con! Look forward to additional images right here at
he-man.org in the not-too-distant future as well.
For anyone planning on attending the convention in San Diego,
the Mattel display will be at booth 2917 (between Starbucks
and Dreamworks), where you'll find preliminary sketches and
concept designs, the exclusive 2-Up cold cast statue (limited
to 500!), and a sneak peek at the actual figures slated for
release next Spring. The Four Horsemen, as well as Ken Kelly,
an artist contributing his talents to a new poster, will be
at the booth. Representatives from Mattel will be on hand
too.
You might be wondering how this will affect any re-releases.
Well, the six figures slated for this Fall are still coming,
not to mention another new five-pack including a soon-to-be-announced
exclusive figure. Keep your eyes on he-man.org for the latest.
After these assortments, Mattel will be concentrating heavily
on the new line, but don't be surprised if more re-releases
pop up sometime afterwards.
With this news, it's natural to wonder if there'll be a corresponding
cartoon. There hasn't been any official word yet, but Lou Scheimer Productions, the
company many of you wrote to in support of a new series, has
a meeting in the works with Mattel. Keep your fingers crossed!
Expect to see a lot more in upcoming months from MastersOfTheUniverse.Com
and your pals here at he-man.org! Many, many thanks to Mattel
for the heads-up, as well as the tireless JVS3 for compiling
all this information.

is up on the poll page. Give it a look-sie.
Looks like the DVD will be hitting stores on October 2, not

DVD enthusiasts can rejoice -- well, a little. The live-action
"Masters of the Universe" has been in the pipeline at Warner
Brothers for a while, and Robert Duncan McNeill (Kevin Corrigan)
mentioned in an interview
last year that a commentary track was in the preliminary
stages as well. DVD Empire
is listing "Masters of the Universe" as an October 23rd release.
The entry doesn't make any mention of aspect ratio or special
features, but a trailer is a safe bet, and hopefully that
commentary was recorded and will be included as well. The
disc will apparently list at Warner's catalog price of $19.99.
Hopefully I'll have more information on Friday night if this
DVD is part of Image Entertainment's weekly update.

Remember how we reported a long time ago that the Odyssey
Channel has the rights to the cartoons? Well, it seems that
they've been submitted to their programming department for
consideration. Whether or not you think Odyssey is a strange
place for its home, Ruben Vaiz, Jr. wrote in suggesting that
people write mailbox@odysseyclub.com
to help get the series on the air.
More information has come to us regarding the ten-pack...
To reiterate, the ten-pack will include the first (new) series
of figures and be limited to 1,000 sets. Each figure will
come in its original blister card but in a truly collector-worthy
package. The package is five-sided and features the ghosted
image of Castle Grayskull in silver foil. Inside is a smaller
five-sided castle tower that has a heavy paper stock print
of the original Grayskull poster.
As to why they decided to go with JC Penney, Mattel said they
have "enjoyed great success as a high-end collector relailer.
Because of [JC Penney's] catalog and website, they're a great
partner for collectible product such as this." Therefore you
will likely be able to get the ten-pack through the website
or by phone, though this remains to be determined. However,
please do not call JC Penney yet! This works against Mattel
and the ten-pack, as has been stated in the past.
Mattel declined to comment on the possibility of any more
re-releases, beast packs, vehicles, or He-Ro and Eldor.
When questioned about the high possibility of scalping, Mattel
said they have found that selling through JC Penney alleviates
this slightly, but that some scalping unfortunately will occur.
However, if the number is made too large, the toy is no longer
collectible.
Finally, Mattel is still looking into why Trap-Jaw's hook
was not produced.

We've got some news for you, but first, an important announcement:
Mattel has just informed us that it is VERY important that
you do NOT call JC Penny's asking about the 10 pack. For reasons
that can be found here,
it works against Mattel and the 10 pack. So again, do NOT
call JC Penny's about the 10 pack.
Now, onto the news:
For the time being, there appear to be NO plans for releasing
the commemorative figures outside of US retailers.
Prices on the 5 pack and 10 pack are still up in the air.
Mattel will see if they can offer a range of prices in the
near future to give you an idea. But no set price has been
given to us as of yet.
Some of you asked what poster will come with the 10 pack.
It's the first one that William George did and you can check
it out here on the site.
For right now, the numbers of the 5 pack appear to be 8,000...
but that isn't set in stone just yet. More than likely that's
what the figures will stay at. Don't quote us on it.
Will there be more re-releases past the second re-release
assortment scheduled roughly for September? Signs point to
yes. However, there are no specifics on what figures you will
see if a third assortment does occur.
Mattel made special note that they are very aware of what
the collectors want re-released. They are trying to balance
this with the release schedule of the original figures and
what will sell with the general public (this is important
to keep in mind!). It's possible you may see some of
the figures from later in the line, but not just yet.
Mattel said that the poll results from earlier in the year
will be used to help determine rereleases, but since they
plan way in advance, the upcoming assortments had been planned
before the data was put into use.

The official word on Mattel's second run of Masters of the
Universe figures:
An exclusive Toys 'R' Us 5 pack will be released this spring,
sometime between March and May. This 5 pack will include He-Man,
Beastman, Man-At-Arms, Skeletor and a Prince Adam that will
only be available in the set. All figures will be in reproductions
of their original packaging.
A 10 pack will be released through JC Penny in July. This
set will be limited to 1000 and will include all 10 of the
figures from the original rerelease assortment, an unique
package design, and a copy of William George's famous collector
poster.
A second rerelease assortment is slated for September of this
year. This rerelease will contain Battle Armor He-Man and
Battle Armor Skeletor limited to 15,000 figures as well Buzz-Off,
Zodac, Stratos, and Clawful all limited to 10,000 figures.
All will be in reproductions of their original packaging.
Also, I know it sounds repetitive, but we're getting closer
and closer to finishing the site revision. The artwork is
done and the programming is almost complete.
