General Information

1. Common Questions

Will there be new action-figures? / Why can't I find new figures?
Unfortunately, the new action-figure line has been cancelled by Mattel.
No additional retailer or convention exclusives are on the horizon.
Mattel produced new figures from the summer of 2002 up through the Fall of 2003, with the Snake Men line. The following year saw the continued production of figures from the entire new line for release worldwide, along with new repaints of existing molds.
From what we have gathered from our sources, production of the new line ceased during late Fall of 2004 and stock was slowly sold out via retailers in various countries.
During the 2004 convention circuit, Mattel displayed 2-up action-figure prototypes of unreleased figures (including Snout Spout, Clamp Champ, Sorceress, Hordak, Stinkor and Tung Lashor). These were not shown with the purpose of promoting upcoming figures.
We were told by Mattel that these prototypes were shown in hopes that through generating public interest, they couild ignite plans internally at Mattel to relaunch the line. We know a great number of people working at Mattel who really wanted this line to continue.
But we've also heard from private sources that some decision makers at Mattel wanted these 2-ups on display to keep public interest high in order to continue selling existing stock through relatively new international accounts for Masters of the Universe. Is this true? We cannot say without a doubt. But if it is, we certainly can't blame Mattel because that's simply smart business. If Masters was not selling that well (as we heard from private sources inside Mattel and mass retail accounts), then no company wants to get stuck with unsold stock.
Regardless of what happened with the new toy line, is Mattel to blame for what happened with the new line? No, because they are a company and selling toys is their business. Their passion for making toys is rivaled by their need to make money. Without profit, Mattel would not exist and people would not have jobs. And there were many factors outside of Mattel that also contributed to how the line performed.
Most people we talked to at Mattel were genuine fans of Masters, and wanted it to live on for years to come. We, as fans, will never be happy about how some of the things played out for the new toy line (from case ratios to advertising). But the fact remains that the new toy line lived on for about two years. And in today's depressed economy with a short attention span, Masters of the Universe got a pretty good run especially considering just how many of our old favorites we saw revamped.

Will "She-Ra: Princess of Power" or the "New Adventures of He-Man" be revamped as "Masters of the Universe" was?
A She-Ra action figure was available at the 2004 San Diego International Comic Con and the WizardWorld Chicago Convention.
You can still find her from time to time on eBay.
Regardless, there are currently no plans to revamp She-Ra like Masters of the Universe was done in 2002.
There does not appear to be any plans to revampe the New Adventures of He-Man.
|back to common questions| |back to top|

When will season 3 and/or reruns of the new cartoon begin to air?
The new cartoon has officially been cancelled due to less-than-spectacular ratings and poor toy sales of the new line.
The new cartoon was extremely expensive to make, and could only exist if the toy line was doing well and ratings were high.
The new cartoon ran for 2 seasons, the first having 26 episodes and the second having 13.
No future episodes have been planned.
A script for Episode 40 was written, and was the only additional work done for the new cartoon. Mattel has said they plan to use the script as a special feature on a DVD set, if a DVD of the new cartoon is ever released.
Rumors of new episodes in Europe are merely that: only rumors.
|back to common questions| |back to top|

When will the new "Masters of the Universe: Defender of Grayskull" 3D fighter video game arrive in stores?
TDK originally said the game would arrive in stores April of 2004. TDK was then bought out by Take2 Interactive.
Since then, the game was released by Midas Interactive in the UK for the PS2 gaming system, for a Region 2 player. If you want to play it in the US, not only do you need to import the game, but you'd have to modify your Region 1 PS2... something we do not endorse or offer any advice on.
There were talks of the game also being released in Europe for XBox, but nothing concrete has surfaced.
No plans are in effect to offer this game in the US.

How can I purchase / sell [insert name of item found or mentioned on He-Man.org] from this site?
He-Man.org lists items for archival purposes only and is not a retailer of ANY item. Most items on the site are vintage items from the 80s and are hard to find anywhere for sale. He-Man.org cannot offer information on where to find these items other than to check eBay or to ask reliable sellers/buyers of classic toys like the Cafe Wha.
We will be offering a means to order the upcoming 6" Statues from NECA and the Four Horsemen. We will post details when they are available.
|back to common questions| |back to top|

When will the new movie come out / Have you heard about (insert actor's name doing whatever)?
Sorry folks, but at this time, the new movie is just a rumor!
Anything you hear should be taken with a grain of salt, especially if you find this information on IMDB.com. That website is an archive that is put together mostly from information submitted by fans like you. It is not an official database!
Please don't report that you've heard about the movie coming, or that a certain actor is playing a certain character. While we appreciate your enthusiasm and your assistance in keeping us informed, we are are fully aware of these rumors.
We will only post news about the movie on the main page when we know it to be true, or have been told about upcoming factoids from secret sources.

Where can I download "Masters of the Universe" related fonts?
He-Man.org cannot currently provide any Masters of the Universe fonts due to copyright and trademark laws. Those fonts are owned by Mattel.
Many fans have searched online for a font called "Serif Gothic" which is similar to the classic Masters of the Universe packaging font. He-Man.org cannot supply this font.

When will [insert section of He-Man.org] be updated/completed?
The folks behind He-Man.org work hard to make this the best site for Masters related material. When sections are completed the update is posted on the He-Man.org main page. We are always working for the most complete, comprehensive and intuitive site around!
We are currently working on a PHP overhaul for the entire site. We HOPE the site will launch in late 2006. If you can help, please e-mail us. We'd love to hear from you.

The Cartoon

1. General Questions

What is "Masters of the Universe"?
"Masters of the Universe" is a cartoon based on action figures by Mattel, Inc. and was animated by the now-defunct Filmation. The syndicated show, which featured the exploits of a super-strong hero named He-Man, debuted in Sept. 1983, and throughout the course of 2 seasons, aired 130 episodes. "Masters of the Universe" also goes down in marketing history as being the first cartoon of the '80s to be based on an action figure line after FCC deregulation.
|back to general questions| |back to top|

Where can I see "Masters of the Universe"?
The cartoon is not currently being aired in the United States, and the officially released videos are out of print. The following suggestion was posted to the Discussion Forum:
Call Blockbuster Video's customer service line at 1-800-800-6767 and press #0 to speak to a representative.

Ask them to make a nationwide search for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe videos that are for sale. If they find any, ask them to give you the address of the Blockbuster store that has them, the store number, and their phone number. Also ask them to give you the call number that's on the MOTU video that you want.

Once you have all that information, go to your local Blockbuster, give them the information you got, and they will order the videos for you.
Also, try our other Forums.

Why was "Masters of the Universe" canceled?
"Masters of the Universe" wasn't really canceled. It ended when Mattel decided to get Filmation to animate their new toy, She-Ra: Princess of Power. She-Ra went into production just as He-Man was ending. The series may have continued for a third season, but She-Ra was given main priority. As a result, He-Man went from being the star to the guest star. She-Ra lasted 93 episodes compared to He-Man's successful 130 episodes, She-Ra was actually cancelled by Mattel due to poor sales. Filmation stopped producing the show after the poor run of 28 new episodes.
|back to general questions| |back to top|

What were the first and last episodes of "Masters of the Universe"?
The first episode aired was "Diamond Ray of Disappearance," which was a blatant toy commercial and gave viewers an idea of the show's central characters. The episode was written by Robby London who wenton to be a big part of the DIC animation company. The last episode aired was "The Cold Zone", written by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. "The Cold Zone" episode was nothing spectacular and by no means a final episode, it was just an average episode centering around Kobra Kahn and his snake people. Although "Diamond Ray of Disappearance" was the first episode to be aired and is the first episode by means of the plot, "The Cosmic Comet" was the in-house production list episode number 001. However that episode bears no relevance to the beginning of the He-Man saga, whereas "Diamond Ray of Disappearance" does. "The Cold Zone" was the in house production list episode number 130, indicating that it was the final episode to be made. "The Problem With Power" is everyone's dream of how the He-Man show should've ended. He-Man gives up his powers are he is led to believe that he has killed someone, and the ending features a lovely walk into the sunset with He-Man holding Teela in his arms. That particular episode is easily the best in the entire 130 episode run.

Will "Masters of the Universe" be back on TV?
Things are looking up! Straight from the mouth of Tim Craig, VP of Legal and Business Affairs for Hallmark Entertainment:
"Hallmark has licensed the television rights to the series to the Odyssey Network. I have inquired as to when the episodes might be airing, and will let you know if I get a response. In the meantime, perhaps you and other "He-Man" fans can express your interest in seeing the series rebroadcast to Odyssey directly. Their address is:

|back to general questions| |back to top|

Was there ever a sequel made to the live-action movie?
After the credits of the live-action movie, "Masters of the Universe," Skeletor pops up and says, "I'll be back!" Unfortunately, he never got the opportunity to make good on his promise. 2. Characters

What did Prince Adam say to transform into He-Man?
"By the power of Grayskull...I have the power!!!"
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

How old is Prince Adam?
The series began when he was 18, and continued until he was 20. He celebrated one birthday in "The Great Books Mystery" and another in "The He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special." Wouldn't it be nice if anyone could realistically look like that at age 18?
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the name of He-Man's tiger?
Just like He-Man has two forms (He-Man & Prince Adam), his tiger has two forms. Normally, he is the cowardly Cringer, but when Prince Adam transforms into He-Man, Cringer becomes the mighty Battle Cat.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the name of Skeletor's panther?
Skeletor's cat is named Panthor.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

Who are Teela's parents?
As revealed in the episode "Teela's Quest", Teela's mother is the Sorceress of Grayskull (Teela'na), and her father was a soldier that was slain in battle (likely during the Horde Invasion that took place approximately 20 years before the series). She was adopted as a baby by Man-At-Arms. Teela has no knowledge of her true parentage, although one day she will take over as Sorceress of Grayskull.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Queen Marlena?
Queen Marlena is actually an astronaut from Earth who crash-landed on Eternia. Her Earth name is Marlena Glenn.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Prince Adam/He-Man?
Prince Adam is the son of King Randor and Queen Marlena. Like his fraternal twin Adora, he is a hybrid of an Earthling and an Eternian. At the age of 18, Man-At-Arms brought him to Castle Grayskull, where Adam received the power of He-Man. From that day, he was changed forever.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of the Sorceress?
The current Sorceress' real name is Teela'na. She was a prisoner of the Evil Horde, and in order to free her people, she took the mantle of the Sorceress of Grayskull. This gave her immense power, but as a result, she can never be human again.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Orko?
When Prince Adam and Cringer were young, they were both were out playing one day and had wandered far from the Royal Palace. A terrible storm broke loose and Prince Adam and Cringer found themselves lost in the Tar Swamps. They weren't alone, however, as Orko was there as well. Because of the great power of the storm a temporary doorway had open between Eternia and Trolla, pulling Orko through it and trapping him in Eternia. Prince Adam called out for help, because he and Cringer were stuck in the Tar. Orko heard his plea for help and went to help them. Orko pulled a Magic Medallion out of the "O" on his chest and commanded the Magic Medallion to help them. A tree branch turned into a hand and pulled Prince Adam and Cringer out of the Tar and put them on dry land. But Orko was careless and dropped his Magic Medallion in the Tar, losing it until the episode "The Creatures From the Tar Swamp" (as I have explained before). Because of Orko's bravery, the Royal Family awarded him with a medal, adopted him,and made him the Court Jester (which wasn't an insult by any means).
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Cringer/Battle Cat?
Cringer wasn't always Battle Cat. When Prince Adam was a boy, he was out in the hills of Eternia practicing his animal calls, when he heard an animal crying out. Adam went to see what it was, and saw that a bigger creature was about to close in on another animal. Adam used the call of another animal to scare off this bigger animal. Adam went to see what was still crying out and he found a baby tiger behind a bush. Adam saw that he was hurt and immediately took him back to the palace for Man-At-Arms to look at. Man-At-Arms told him that he would do his best, but it didn't look good for the baby tiger. Fortunately, the baby tiger lived, and Adam grew to love him. The baby tiger stuck to Adam like glue. Whereever he went, the tiger went with him. The only problem was that the tiger was afraid of everything. One day a group of kids were near Adam. One of them decided to scare Adam's tiger by saying "Boo!". The tiger ran up Adam's shirt and and Teela called Adam's cat a Cringer. The kids started saying "Cringer! Cringer!" in a teasing manner. Adam told them that he didn't care, because he still liked him. Adam decided to name his tiger Cringer. The Sorceress of Grayskull contacted Adam and told him not to be impatient with his pet. Adam told her that he embarrassed him sometimes. The Sorceress told Adam that Cringer would very important to him in the future. Adam grew up and so did Cringer. Adam never figured out what she meant. Prince Adam had gained the powers of He-man now. Whenever he wanted to change, he had to ditch Cringer so that he could do so. Adam didn't know that his powers could transform him, as well as his tiger, into powerful heroes. One day when an archeological party discovered something strange in the Tecon Jungle. They had found serveral strange buildings. King Randor sent an expidition to investigate this posibble historic links to Eternia past. Man-At-Arms, Adam, and Teela gathered equipment that they needed for their expidition. No one had said anything about Cringer coming along, but he had his own ideas. Cringer hid in a flying machine. When they investigated the main building at the ruins, they discovered that there was no life around the building; no plants, animals, or light, just the vines that grow on the building. Teela and Adam looked around on their own. The discovered a door on one of the buildings. There were inscriptions on the door. Teela told her father and he told them that he would take a look in the morning. Teela and Adam decided to look at the door anyway. Teela found a crack in the door and shoved her sword into it. I huge gust of wind and dust flew out of the hole. Man-At-Arms came to investigate the next day. The small crack on the door had widened and Adam and Teela noticed it. Man-At-Arms had the archiological team use their tools to open the door. The Gauge had been freed from his sealed prison. The Gauge started attacking everyone in site. Adam ran off with Cringer right behind him. Adam ran into a clearing, probably thinking that Cringer had ran and hidden. But what he didn't know is that Cringer had followed him. Adam changed into He-man and Cringer saw his transformation. Cringer then said in a scared voice "Aaadam!". He-man said "Easy Cringer. It's me, Adam." He-man pointed his sword at Cringer and the power from the sword changed Cringer into Battle Cat for the very first time.

What is the origin of Ram-Man?
An Eternian who controlled a certain piece of land and wouldn't let anyone pass. Apparently, he had been tricked many times before and didn't trust anyone. He-Man tried to pass one day in the Attak Trak and Ram-Man wouldn't let him. He-Man popped him in the jaw, and Skeletor appeared later, convincing Ram-Man that He-Man was evil and Skeletor was good. Skeletor claimed he knew where He-Man lived (Grayskull) and needed Ram-Man's help in breaking in (by ramming it). He also began to control Ram-Man through hypnotic control. The Sorceress let He-Man know about Ram-Man ramming into the door, and He-Man showed up to stop him. A fight broke out between Skeletor and Beast Man against He-Man. Just as Skeletor was about to finish off He-Man, Ram-Man stopped him. Since Ram-Man had saved He-Man's life, \ they agreed to join forces and fight Skeletor together.

What is the origin of Man-E-Faces?
Two different stories with this guy:

One is an evil guy who basically made life hell for the Widgets, but then was imprisoned by Skeletor and decided to become a good guy.

The other is that he was an actor who could play any part and was put under a spell by Skeletor and becomes a monster, but then the spell was broken, but then the Sorceress broke it and he became a human, but then the Sorceress and Skeletor kept turning him back and forth and back and forth and finally he was a robot, neither good nor evil. The Sorceress then returned him to his human state after Skeletor disappeared.

What is the origin of Mekaneck?
Mekaneck's neck was severly injured during the "Season of Storms", a destructive, violent weather pattern that swept across Eternia not long ago. Mekaneck was at a place called Dragon Mountain, with his young son, Phillip, when the Storm struck. Phillip possesses tremendous musical talent, playing the flute "like an angel". Phillip and his father were separated by the storm. Afterwards, Mekaneck was discovered by Man-At-Arms, injured, wandering incoherently, calling for his son. Man-At-Arms saw to his wounds, and in his own words, "..Was able to give him a BIONIC neck." With his amazing (but unusual) new ability, he became a valuable new ally of He-Man, but was unable to overcome the loss of his son. Some time later, it was discovered that Phillip was alive!, and in the clutches of the malicious Count Marzo, who was using Phillip's flute-playing, coupled with Marzo's mystic training, to enthrall people so Marzo could rob them (sorta small-minded for a power-mad thug like Marzo)! He was gearing up for a mind-control takeover of the kingdom, when He-Man intervened. Several action scenes later, father and son were joyously reunited!
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Roboto?
This is another character with multiple origins. One was he crashed on Eternia in a spaceship and He-Man and Man-at-Arms saved him from an attack from Modulok. The other is that Man-at-Arms created him as an invincible robot (but with a "heart," which gave him emotions). Basically, Skeletor steals the heart and uses him for evil until He-Man and Man-at-Arms save Teela from Roboto killing her by putting the heart back in his chest. The Sorceress then puts a spell over him which makes it impossible for the heart to be removed by evil people.
|back to characters questions| |back to top|

What is the origin of Tri-Klops?
A Warrior summoned by Skeletor from an un-named dimension to defeat He-Man. Tri-Klops possesses "Power Visions." One eye gives him "Gamma Vision" which allows Him to see around corners (and through solid objects). Another eye has "Dista-Vision" (also called "Far-Vision"), which is, as it implies, vision from a telescopic viewpoint. A third eye gives Him "Night Vision", the ability to see in total darkness, even better than Battle Cat! His three eyes (collectively) afford him "Panoramic Vision", which means he can see normally out of all three eyes at once. No one can sneak up on this guy, with eyes in the back of his head! And besides this, His "Blast Vision" deals a blast of destructive force, or a blinding flash of light.

What is the origin of Beast Man?
Among the race of Beastmen that inhabit the planet Eternia he is (presumably) the leader. They are savages and hunters, and have been seen riding dragons, as they have the ability to control the minds of animals. Obviously, they inhabit the forests.

What is the origin of Skeletor?
Finally, we have official confirmation! Skeletor is Keldor, Randor's long-lost brother. Before Randor was king, Keldor mysteriously disappeared while experimenting with magic. As revealed later by the writers, Keldor travelled back in time to become He-Ro's arch-villain, commanding the Imperium Serpentis (Snake Men). Eventually, the Ancients banished them.

Somehow, Keldor became Skeletor. Whether the Ancients caused him to have a slow death (one story) or he was permanently scarred by Etheramite (another), he eventually joined the Horde, becoming Hordak's apprentice and conquering Eternia's sister planet, Infinita. Or vice-versa. The story gets a little fuzzy here.

After Adam and Adora were born, during the Horde Invasion, Hordak left Skeletor on Eternia for his Etheramite betrayal. Though he was imprisoned, he escaped, and took over Snake Mountain, and began his power struggle to take over Eternia.

What is the relationship between Hordak and Skeletor?
Skeletor was Hordak's pupil. Skeletor's treachery led him to become the skull-faced villain he is today, and Hordak later returned the favor, stranding Skeletor on Eternia during the Eternia/Horde war.

Is Zodac good or evil?
Zodac is a cosmic being, serving neither good nor evil. He has helped He-Man many more times than Skeletor, because so often Skeletor upsets the cosmic balance. eg. Zodac revealing the Talon Fighter to He-Man, etc. Only once has Zodac helped Skeletor (in the DC preview in such comics as DC Comics Presents #51). Much of the confusion regarding Zodac is based on the figure's package, he was labeled "evil," although his actions show that label to be inaccurate.

Can you describe the solar system Eternia is in?
Eternia has at least 3 moons, 2 of them inhabitated: Bright Moon, Dark Moon, and one other. The moon Bright Moon is different from the kingdom of Brightmoon on Etheria. Phantos is not a moon of Eternia, but another planet (it has three moons of its own, after all!), and it might exist within the Eternian solar system. The number of moons of Infinita, Eternia's sister planet, is unknown. Finally, Etheria has 3 moons, but their names were never mentioned. It is highly unlikely that Etheria is in the same solar system as Eternia.

What is the "Powers of Grayskull?" line?
Mattel was planning a "Masters of the Universe" spin-off line called "The Powers of Grayskull", which would feature a hero named (appropriately enough) He-Ro. Despite being partially introduced in one of the last mini-comics made, the majority of the figures were never released. This was for various reasons, but the two main reasons were Mattel's bad toyline investments (such as the Intellivision) and the arrival of the concept of BraveStarr. The giants from the line, Tytus and Megator, were released (presumably for test-marketing purposes) in Italy, and the line's intended villains, the Snake Men, were widely released throughout the world. If you would like more information on these figures, including pictures, take a look at the Prototypes section.
