15 years ago this month, Masters of the Universe made its debut, changingmarketing history and our parents' bank accounts forever.
Although the show has been off the air for quite some time, it's amazing tosee the fan support behind it. As you'll see in this issue, there are somepretty exciting developments for both the series we know and love, alongwith the possibility of new adventures...
The action figure customizing contest ends on Sept. 15 - if you haven'tgotten in your entries, please do it soon!
As always, I love hearing what you think! You can reach me atctyner@he-man.org, and there's always my site athttp://www.he-man.org/ctyner/ Your comments and suggestions are veryimportant in keeping this newsletter alive. :-)
He-Man
appears in yet another magazine! "Lee's Action Figure News and ToyReview" has
a short (abruptly ended) article on MOTU, along with a slew offull-color
pictures. Get it while you can!
[Cartoon Network Update]
James Lovsin (hordak1@juno.com), like many of us, have e-mailed the CartoonNetwork and asked if MOTU would appear on the network. He forwarded metheir response, and I think it's something we should take into consideration.
I have forwarded your email to our programming department. However, Iwould make a suggestion to you that I've made (possibly to no avail) tomany He-Man fans out there. Try sending a snail mail letter to ourprogramming department rather than emails. The emails I get that are notdirected toward Space Ghost Coast to Coast or Cartoon Planet are sent to afolder on our internet server for the programming department. Sometimesthese go for great lengths without being read by the people who actuallydetermine programming. (I don't and neither does anyone in my department.) You should send snail mail, and tell your other He-Man friends to do so aswell, because that way the programming department actually see the fans'desire to have this show rebroadcast. The address is:
Thanks again for watching! And turn that channel off of FOX!!
[Hallmark Update]
CybertOOn (cybertoon@angelfire.com) sent me some information from JanScott, from Hallmark's Consumer Affairs department. [Meteorbs Cartoon?]
It looks like an animated mini-series featuring the meteorbs was inpre-production. pluto@choice.net sent me the following information, whichhe said he obtained while searching through a TV show database. I don'tknow if it was ever made or just proposed, but it's interesting nonetheless.
It was starring the meteorbs and He-Man. It was a six episode mini-series. Alex
got this doing a search for "meteorbs" and He-Man. the thingy thattells you
about its current condition said it was unknown, so it could havenever been aired,
or in the planning stages and never finished. Here'swhat i got:
Prince
Adam takes a stroll through the forest when he notices a fiery rockfalling
from the sky. It crash-landed near him, and he went to look at it. He went
between two bushes and found a strange animal that resembled a cat(Comet
Cat) and found two creatures aproaching this animal. They wereanimals themselves.
Suddenly five more meteors came crashing twords thethree creatures. They
then started to "change" into creatures themselves. Then two more creatures
appeared behind these animals. A fight broke out,and Adam hid and transformed
into He-Man.
Main characters: He-Man, Meteorbs
Produced: Unknown
Produced by: Filmation
Aired: Unknown
[CybertOOn Update]
Rodney Huffman (crh@ecsis.net) runs a site called CybertOOn, which isdevoted to getting many of our favorite shows back on the air, and (ofcourse) He-Man and She-Ra are among them. The CybertOOn petition forHe-Man has reached over 700 names, and the She-Ra one is approaching 600names. If you're interested in joining Rodney's campaign, e-mailcybertoon@angelfire.com with your full name and a list of cartoons you wantto see again. The petitions will be sent off when they reach 1,000 names. For more information, visit http://members.tripod.com/~cybertoon/heman.html
[Grayskull Tales]
I've received some more information on the possibly-upcoming new series,Grayskull Tales, courtesy of JTQ (sorceress@tamu.edu), who also providedthe commentary...
The first season:
1. The Sorcerer of Grayskull, (-60 minute explanatory & reorientation
episode)
2. Wedding Bells (The wedding of the Sorcerer & Sorceress)
3. Kaitain (Skeletor's mass invasion against Ninjor's homeland,
just Northof Eternia)
4. Time Trial (Sorcerer travels back in time to save a young Teelana
fromMorgoth)
5. Breaking Point (The revolt of Merman & his Fishmen against Snake
Mountain)
6. The Beast Within (Beastman plots to impress Skeletor by taking
Greyskull)
7. Key to Apocolypse (The Sorcerer learns 'the secret of the ancients')
8. Holy War (Kobra Khan lead the snake-men on a crusade to retake
Snake Mtn)
9. Shadow of the Condor (Skeletor uses a new prototype fighter against
Eternia)
10. Phantasm (The Sorcerer is thrown into a near-death nightmare coma)
11. Duel of Steel (the Sorcerer's Warbird vs Trap-Jaws' Condor- to the death)
12. The Darkness Rises (My personal, favorite episode!)
13. The Council (The leaders of Eternia ban together to stop Skeletor once& for
all)
14. The Seige of Snake Mountain ('Everyone verses Skeletor-' need I say more!)
15. I, Skeletor (Skeletor's personal memoirs, from the depths of Eternia'sdungeon)
16. Reflections (Condensed clip-show, recounting the previous 15 episodes)
The second season, which is the Horde War, spans roughly 12 Episodes, 8 of which are fought on Eternia and the remaining four on Etheria. The premise was that in the intervening years since Hordak was driven offof Eternia, rebellions have spread throughout the Empire. Rebel leaderscite Eternia as a rallying point, as up untill that time, the Horde wasundefeated. With the heroics of Prince Randor, the newly ordainedSorceress, and the supreme leadership of a young Man-at-Arms, and thetreachery of Skeletor, the Hordak was not only defeated, but forciblydriven off-world. Hordak simply reasoned that the cost of waging war on theremote back-water world of Eternia, simply did not justify its worth. Hethus turned his attentions to holding his province of Etheria- Now 20 yearslater, rebellions have sprung up throughout the empire- young Prince Jerod, son of Horde-Prime himself, (who had befriended She-Ra in the originalseries), now leads almost third of the imperial fleet against his father-With more worlds claiming their independence every day-Horde-Prime,desperate to quell this new breath of freedom spreading throughout thegalaxy, has ordered Hordak to erase his mistake, by leading an imperialarmy back to planet Eternia, His mission: Reclaim Eternia if possible- Todestroy it, if not...
Season Three, are still ultra secret- These are the final battles to thefinish, between the forces of good and evil- In these remaining 8 episodes, everything from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe culminates at longlast- The Origin of Skeletor- the marriage of Adam and Teela, and ofcourse, the final conflict...
Last issue I posted about Larry DeMeza (DeMzaLF@Hotmail.com), who's tryingto put together a new He-Man animated series. Please bear in mind that, like Grayskull Tales, this series is still in the planning stages and mayor may not see the light of day.
The pilot for a proposed 'new' MOTU series is entitled 'The Powers ThatBe'. It is an introduction to the world of Eternia, the origin of a couplecharacters, the wars the ensued there, and the war yet to come. The mostimportant part of the story is the introduction of Adam, who is the onlyson of Randor and Marlena, the King and Queen of Eternos. Cringer is stillthere as Adam's pet tiger but his and Adam's destiny takes a similar, ifnot different, path than their previous Filmation incarnations.
You will see in the sketches I will be sending you, what I mean by'somewhat different.' Many characters will stay the same, only theirorigins are going to get little 'tweeks' here and there to give it a moresoap-operish feel. 'Bold and the Beautiful' this is NOT. The story will beas seriousness that most of the Live-Action film had, but no campy crap.Skeletor is no longer the Boneheaded villian he was in the Filmation show. This new Skeletor is out for blood, Adam's and He-Man's both.
More info to come later. Please post this. Once the script is registered,I'm sending it and a very encouraging letter to the copyright holders ofMOTU. Then the game we be at long last afoot.
Later,
Larry DeMeza II

[Question Of The Month]
Scott White (Cringer)
contributed this month's question - "WhenTeela became the Sorceress of Grayskull,
where do you think her motherwould live....and what role do you think she
would be involved in? Teela'sadvisor, etc.?"
Please send your responses to me at ctyner@he-man.org, and I'll put them inthe next issue of the newsletter.
Last month's question, from Nx76x@aol.com,
was - "Besides He-Man & She-Ra,who is the out and out toughest character and why?" I
got in a number ofresponses, and surprisingly, there wasn't a clear decision.
Centurie Omega (stuart@surfsouth.com):
Either Man-At-Arms or the Sorceress... They've got that emotional thing about not telling Teela who she is, along w/ having to deal w/ Skeletor and that crap... But then Teela is pretty tough for a gal... And on the evil side, Panthor beets Skeletor's whimpering anyday... I mean, think about it... You never see Panthor crying and running unless he's smart enough to get outta trouble, right???
M. Navarro (mjnavarro@juno.com):
Besides He-man and She-ra, Hordak would have to be the toughestcharacter. No matter what you do he always manages to trick the good andthe bad guys. Another reason is he and his army could easily defeatSkeletor's if he had an intersest in Eternia leaving them as the ultimatethreat.
Nina McCarville (honeycomb1@hotmail.com):
This question is an easy one! BATTLECAT!!!$!#@!@#!!@!!!!$^*(@@!!!
Dan Feriolo (d_fer@hotmail.com):
Without a doubt, the toughest character besides He Man and She Ra would have to be Beastman. Beastman pushes He Man to the limit everytime they face off. Beastman also can take a hell of a pounding. He has been hit with everything time and time again, yet he comes back for more.
It would have been really cool to have an episode where Beastman overthrows Skeletor and leads the troops to defeat He Man. However, Beastman's weak point is his brains. His main purpose is to get beat up while Skeletor runs for cover.
Beastman would also be my answer to last month's question. I would love to see a 5 part episode explaining the origin of Beastman and his allegiance to Skeletor.
Dan Khokhar (dan200@ibm.net):
I'd have to go with Shadow Weaver. It just seemed like nobody was everable
to penetrate her defences but she was so loyal to Hordak so shenever really
got to lead anything. It took a great deal of effort onAdora's part with
the help of her sword just to break Shadow Weaver'sspell in "The Secret of the Sword".
James Hinshaw (jerk98@juno.com):
I would have to say Man At Arms. Anyone who can be turned into crystal, and stone, and be a single father to Teela... I mean come on that takessome real power. Man at Arms always had this incredible sense ofintegrity. He was definately one of the most noble characters.
Nx76x@aol.com:
I asked it, I'll answer it. Now, we're talking toughest besides He-Man andShe-Ra, NOT strongest. Well, also excluding Battlecat, I think Ram Mantakes this one.
