[Introduction]

Hello again! Sorry for the delay in sending off the newsletter, but it's been a pretty busy couple of weeks, with all the projects, tests, and concerts (They Might Be Giants, Jump Little Children, & Tuscadero!), I haven't had time to work on the Scrolls lately. Also, if you've sent me e-mail and I haven't responded, I'll try to get back to you very soon.

This issue's smaller than usual, but hopefully it'll be back at full strength next month. :-) Please send me your comments and suggestions for this newsletter at ctyner@he-man.org. That's the only way this newsletter's ever going to get any better. ;-)

Well, I'm off to Atlanta to see They Might Be Giants. Enjoy the newsletter! :-)

[He-Man In France]

Arnaud Marange (MarangeA@aol.com):

The figures were first sold in France in 1983, and as with the U.S., they were a huge success. The cartoon was first broadcast there in 1984 or 1985 on a channel called Antenne 2 (now 'France 2'), and was reaired in 1995 and 1996 on a private satellite channel (RTL 9).

There were quite a few differences though. For instance, the characters in the series (called "Les Maitres De L'Univers") had different names. Here's a list of what some of the characters were called overseas:

He-Man: Musclor
Battle Cat: Tigre De Combat
Cringer: Kringuer
Man-At-Arms: Maitre D'Armes
Teela: Tila
Orko: Orco
Ram-Man: Belios
Man-E-Faces: Maskor
Mer-Man: Oceanor
Beast Man: Le Monstre
Trap-Jaw: Dentos
Faker: Fakor
Tri-Klops: Triclops
Battle Armor He-Man: Musclor L'Invincible
Battle Armor Skeletor: Skeletor L'Invincible
Clawful: Crabor
Sy-Klone: Cy-Clone
Sorceress: La Sorciere
Evil-Lyn: Evilyn
Hordak: Hordac
Stinkor: Puantor
Castle Grayskull: Chateau des Ombres
Snake Mountain: Chateau Malefique

Also, some characters (Prince Adam, Blade, Gwildor, Saurod, Roboto, Fisto, She-Ra, Zoar, Stratos, Mekaneck, Skeletor, Zodac, and Jitsu, for instance) underwent no name changes.

More information on the French version of He-Man, as well as other foreign versions, may be included in future issues.

[Trivia]

Unfortunately, this issue was a bit (actually, very) rushed and I didn't have time to get any new trivia from Scott White. Here are the answers to his questions from last month, though:

       A: 130

  (2) Q: Name two common phrases that Teela says to Adam.
A: And where have you been? & You were supposed to be at practice.

  (3) Q: What seven letter word does Skeletor always call his cronies?
       A: Ninnies

  (4) Q: What kind of animal is Granamyr?
       A: A Dragon

  (5) Q: What color is Prince Adam's vest?
       A: Pink

  (6) Q: What color is Orko's scarf?
       A: Pink

  (7) Q: What color are Granamyr's eyes?
       A: Yellow

  (8) Q: What color are Granamyr's claws?
       A: Black

  (9) Q: What color is Duncan's helmet?
       A: Yellow and gray.

(10) Q: Where does the Sorceress live?
       A: Castle Grayskull

[Do We Want MOTU On The Cartoon Network?]

How badly do we want MOTU back on the air? Nx76x@aol.com sent me a letter (reproduced below, of course) that raises some interesting points.

For what it's worth, I agree, at least to an extent. However, I think it's a little too early in the game to fully judge the Fox Family Channel.

I actually think that it might be more beneficial to us all if Cartoon Network DIDN'T get ahold of our favorite cartoons. I mean look at what they're doing to the ones they've got! They've taken out the introductions to Thundercats, Voltron, and Robotech! Plus, they didn't even acquire all of the episodes to Voltron or Robotech. I say we send snail mail letters to the NEW FOX Family Channel's programming department. From what it said at the end of the CN response,("...turn that channel off of FOX!!") I'd say that they're worried about the competition now that they've got some! Ted Turner is Chairman of Time/Warner or something, which owns Cartoon Network. Well, it's no secret that he and FOX owner Rupert Murdoch are bitter rivals. Their bad blood may soon reach a boiling boint now that the World Wrestling Federation is in negotiations with the FOX network. The WWF as wrestling fans well know is in a ratings war with Turner's World Championship Wrestling. The new FOX Family Channel has such 80's cartoons as "The Real Ghostbusters", "Heathcliff", and "Dennis the Menace"...with their full intros. I'd like to see our favorite cartoons such as He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers, G.I.Joe, M.A.S.K., etc. back on the air as much as the rest of you, but putting those shows on the same channel that carries "Beetlejuice", "Road Rovers", or some other reject cartoon is like dipping a gold chain in copper! At first I didn't think Cartoon Network was that bad of a home for our favorites, but I've since seen the light. I know that some of you want these cartoons back sooooooo bad that you don't care who gets them just as long as their reaired, but believe me it makes a big difference as to where these classic cartoons call home. I feel very strongly towards this, and will right to FOX myself if need be, but I hope you'll all follow my lead. I don't yet have the address to the FOX Family Channel, but I'll get it.

--- Logan (Nx76x@aol.com)

So what do all of you think? Send me your thoughts at ctyner@he-man.org and they'll be printed in the next issue.

[Speaking Of Cartoon Networks...]

frankiekr@yahoo.com is looking into creating a cartoon network of his own -- a network of fan-fic writers, featuring original stories for cartoons of the past and present. Contact him for more information.

[Whatever Happened To...?]

Ever wonder what Lou Scheimer (who produced the MOTU cartoon) has been up to lately? Vasco Ogier (vogier@ibm.net) is currently working (on a very limited scale) on a project with him called "Robin and the Dreamweavers" that will be released next September.

[Featured File]

This blooper craze was set into motion by Thom McKiernan (tmks@clara.net), and it probably won't be ending anytime soon. :-)

This image, discovered and captured by Scott White (Cringer), features the Sorceress with an oddly colored head-dress.

[Question Of The Month]

The question for this month, submitted by Nx76x@aol.com, is:

"What in your opinion started the Masters of the Universe downfall in the late 80's, and what caused the death blow?...or coma blow (let's be optimistic here!)"

E-mail your answers to ctyner@he-man.org for the next issue.

I received several responses to last month's question, which was:

"When Teela became the Sorceress of Grayskull, where do you think her mother would live....and what role do you think she would be involved in? Teela's advisor, etc.?"

Centurie Omega (stuart@surfsouth.com)

Umm... No joke on this one, It's about like Adam becoming king, both King Randor and Queen Marlena would die, then Adam assurps the throne... I'm thinking only in the event of the Sorceress meeting death, Teela would inheret the powers. And save the Power of Grayskull once again.

Jimmy Izu Kanashiro (jizu@sbs.gob.pe)

Well, in my opinion Teela when replace Sorceress only when she dies. So, when Teela becomes the new Sorceress she will only have the advise of Sorceress as an spirit living in Grayskull, or communicating by telepathy. So Sorceress won't be living - physically - she will be a good spirit.

Thom McKiernan (tmks@clara.net)

If Teela was to take up her destiny as the new Sorceress, she would ban her mother to ever set eyes on another living creature as punishment for abandoning her as a child (Teela's a tough and mature gal and could have handled the responsibility of her fate). Teelana would then seek refuge in Snake Mountain, overthrow Skeletor, and her beauty would enchant all his minions (except Evil Lyn who will fly back to Earth after losing her powers). The Sorceress would then try to attack Castle Grayskull only to discover the bond between her and Teela was to strong. They would then reunite and Eternia would be free from evil (for now). Teela would then let her mother live in a retirement home near the castle where she would knit Teela wooly jumpers and gloves.

Dan Khokhar (dan200@ibm.net)

I think that the Sorceress would have no part of what Teela's doings would be. She would just vanish out of existence almost like she never was.
