Masters of the Universe - Card Game

Well folks, I've been sitting on this for a looooooooong time (since 2003) and I finally decided to get back to it. I plan on finishing it over the Christmas holidays but here's a sneak peak (King Hssss because there seems to be a lot of Hssss love going around at the moment ) All cards will be downloadable and measure at 3.5" x 2.5" @ 300dpi... which makes for a great printout. I'm still working on the backside of the cards but they're almost finished too.



The game mechanics are already completed and now it's just a matter of finishing the art (not much left either.) The first batch is only four characters big (with a series of "character" specific card to go along with them) but even with only four, it's quite fun.

that looks awesome ric! i'm mucho looking forward to this.

if i may make one design suggestion, a slight glow on the MOTU logo might make it pop just a bit, right now it blends a little with the bg and might even more when printed out.

Was this the thing you told me about? t's extremely cool man. I love his toes...

Thanks all... and thanks for the feedback. Anybody have any other suggestions, etc. or do you think it's a go as is? I really want to retain the cartoon feel that I used for the character in the card itself but does anything stand out and "bug" you? If not... cool

Any Artifact cards? Spell cards? Attack cards? Location cards?

I guess that the 3 on the top left of the card is either card number or faction number. The 10 with the heart seems obvious to be life points. The 10 with the blue thing appears to be magic points.

EDIT: All 1980's themed? or some 2002 elements included?

@Neo - Yep. This is the one

i can give you more feedback on the layout if you post the mechanics.

if there's only 2 cards in your hand, what you have is fine, if you'll be holding several, you should look at holding them as if you're playing poker, and see what information is easily visible and what each player needs to be able to see without having to shift their hand around too much. but of course, that might not be applicable. the only reason i point it out is that you have health and power/attack value on opposite sides of the card.

I'm not really into games like this so I can't give you helpful advice like wilee4.

But as a casual observer I think that the colours work well and the overall design is very professional.

That is awesome! Any plans for any POP to be added to the mix?

Thanks all... now... I guess I should release a "play" card to show how the cards alter a bit. The "magic" score is not used in play, only for when a player is choosing his hand.

These are cool Sllohcin. I always like your top heavy cartoon style (would be fun to model and animate in 3d). I hope HeMan is one of the cards to come. I don't know if I have seen you do a take on the modern HeMan.

Just to give a little rundown on the game, I'm going to list a few details.

• The game is sort of an advanced version of Paper - Rock - Scissors (Parchment - Eternium - Sword)... quick and fun and allows for HUGE battles!
• Not only are there "standard" play cards that everybody gets to choose from, but there are also faction and character cards that can be chosen.
• The first release will see a small set of 20 - 22 cards (16 of which are already done and the remainder are "easy" ones.)

Thats absolutely Fantastic Ric. Always wanted to see the new King Hsss in your style. Well now my wish is granted. He looks meaner than ever. Cant wait to see th remaining ones.

* Tale note that I randomly chose a card and just realized that it was also an "Eternium" card. Meh... No biggie, eh?

Anyway, as of now, the cards are complete when it comes to layout and colours, etc. save for the name of the game and the back of the card (may make some changes... not sure yet.)

Any updates on the game? It looks really cool so far. Are you gonna do He-man and the other characters?

I'm think of making a Pen and Paper He-man RPG. Based on the Ghostbusters one by West End Games.

What I'd like to mention, that I find extremely awesome, is the fact Ric is using KIRBY-DOTS!!

I'm not sure if I've been bloody blind or something, but I think this is the first time I see him do it. And he seems to have that negative-space well in control.

Hmm, what I do know that I haven't seen is Gbagoks Kirby-dots. Wich is odd, since he's obviously a fan of Kirby.
