Motu redesign challenge #69 Double Trouble

Poll was a tie and my dice said that lady will go first. For all Sea Hawk fans out there there is no need to get too disappointed. Sea Hawk was winner of the poll too and he will get his challenge soon.

Some reference for Glamorous double agent can be found in He-man.orgs resources:
    http://www.he-man.org/primary_sects/..._trouble.shtml

Again you can use imagination and send picture of her new version. Deadline is first day of year 2007. I will open Dre-Elle poll about 24 hours after this message has arrived.

Merry Cristmas and happy holidays to all members. Here comes my because I'll be back just befero next challenge beginns:

She has removable helmet and horde logo in her belt shows only when touched (like old transformers logos).
Will do commissions for loose 200X Evillyn or Roboto. Guarantee: if not happy with pic, no need to send fig!

Monikasvo: that's a great new take on the concept! i like how her comb accessory has evolved into a weapon, and being a huge transformers fan, the rub symbol is a nice touch. excellent job.

I already had one drawn from ages ago, and decided to colour it too.

I see Double Trouble as kind of a medieval knight-like person who trains others.

Avril: That looks awesome!! I love the watercolor feel to the coloring job. It almost looks like you were inspired by Loni from the episode Friendship. Beautiful!

It looks like watercolour? Wow, thanks! That's one of the best comments I've had. To be honest, I just coloured it any old way b/c I was bored lol

Thats a great looking pic Avril. Love the pose too.

Was Double Trouble ever in the Filmation toon? I'd like to base my design more around the toon.

sadly, no, she was never in the toon, but loni (mentioned above by osgood) was probably the closest thing to her.

This is SUCH a dumb question, but I'll never know if I don't ask.

    Why is she called "DoubleTrouble?"

does anyone have a screen capture of loni?

Avril: looks great--i like the textures on the green and black parts of her armor. the texture on the black parts in particular look like sequins or glitter (very appropriate for a POP character!). the flow of the hair has a nice dynamic motion to it, and the gleam off of her helmet is a nice touch. And those boots make her look like a kick-butt martial artist!

nightwing: another great custom! you did an excellent job merging the visual cues of the original figure with the modern 200x look. i can't see the design drawing though... all i get is the dreaded red X...

StarBlazerM31: she's a double agent, and her face switches from "good" (smiling) to "evil" (grimacing). she's sort of like POP's version of man-e-faces.

okay--here's my entry for double trouble!

inspiration struck when i noticed that the crest on double trouble's helmet, and the decoration on her chest, both had vaguely the same silhouette as the horde symbol. thus was born double trouble's horde disguise!

the horde version of double trouble is armed with one of those gargoyle-crossbow thingees which i assume is standard issue for high ranking horde officers. i darkened the green so it would be a bit more "military" and added in some red and black to emphasize the horde theme. the end result is a sort of a christmas-looking color scheme, but that's just a coincidence!

the rebellion version of double trouble just has a few tweaks--added some green on the shoulder pads, and made her bracers and choker silver to match her boots and the accents on her helmet. never been a fan of the sheer tutus that many of the POP figures had, so instead i made the "skirt" part of a tunic.

my interpretation still pretty much leaves double trouble's abilities open to debate... is she a mystical shapeshifter? or just a rebellion agent in a disguise?

anyhow, i'd be glad to hear what you all think of my design.

thank you bootleg im glad you like my custom & can see how i tried to keep the basics of the character but just make subtle changes to her to make her fit in with the new motu range of figures.
i dont know why that dreaded red X keeps popping up but if you try clicking on this link you will hopefully be able to see the design for my custom figure.

I was just looking through the SHE-RA BIBLE, on the DVD set, and found this

    DOUBLE TROUBLE

Double Trouble is Glimmer's cousin, She comes from the Kingdom of Green Glade and functions as the chief spy of the rebellion. Double's forte is disguise, and she can look like almost anyone with a little time. She is very dextrous and can squeeze herself into almost impossibly tiny spaces, or climb the sheerest of walls to carry out her missions. She is not much of a fighter, thought her agility makes her a good dodger. no disguise is beyond her. She can look like an aged king one moment, or a Horde villainess the next. she can also change her voice to suit her disguise. Double can fast talk her way out of the tightest spots, and is very effective against the Horde, who she adamantly hates. This stems from the fact that she plays Horde supporter in her normal guise, the better to spy on them when the time comes. she is often mistrusted by Etherians not in the know for this every reason.

Cressy: Thanks for posting that info. What a great background for DT. I wonder why Filmation never ran with it? They could have had a couple really cool James Bond-like moments with her.

yeah, good info, thanks for posting...kinda weird/sad the most information we have about Double Trouble's past and motivations comes from a cartoon in which she NEVER appeared...

given Filmation's tendency to change/ignore things i guess i can still see her as a split personality or a double agent who's real loyalty is towards the horde...i never decided which one i like best...

but i know her tendency to use lies and deception seems to run counter to the stark moral goodness of the Rebellion...which might just be why Filmation never managed to work her in...what's the message to kids with her, it's OK to lie to "bad" people...doesn't seem to jive with the whole socially conscious thing the shows had...

skeletoncrew and avril: thanks! i do try and keep things simple, especially when it comes to MOTU/POP fan art. that's partially because i have a stronger association with the filmation toons, and partially because i'm trying not to get too caught up with details. as for double trouble's allegiance, i guess i gave my own opinion away by labelling her in the piece as a "heroic" double agent rather than the much more morally ambiguous "glamorous" double agent.

nightwing, Hordaks Henchman, and Lupa Luna: thanks!

cressy: cool, thanks for posting that! i haven't looked through the extras on my she-ra dvds yet.

I'd like to think of her as a sort of free agent, not loyal to either side, but with unrevealed reasons she benefits from appearing loyal to both. It would be an interesting concept to see her playing both sides for a short time until her motives were revealed. I also think that given this type of story she should have a re-occurring role, but never join the main cast, like Count Marzo for example.
