    Hey guys,

I'm just wondering what everyone's favourite piece of fan-fiction is and why? What elements attract you to that writer's work? And has there been any particular storyline/issue tackled that has really blown you away?

There are loads of different styles and genres to the He-Man and She-Ra fan-fic library, so I'd love to hear your views!

    Great topic, Scorpia!

First off, let me say that there are few fanfics out there that I don't enjoy on some level. I'm constantly amazed by the talent and creativity displayed by this fandom.

That said, the one story that blows me away no matter how often I read it is "Queen Marlena's Story" by A. Carr. It's located here: http://users.stargate.net/~acarr/shera/fanfic/qms1.html.

The summary on the website (which describes the story better than I could ) says, "United with her mother after long years of absence, Princess Adora must find out the circumstances of her birth, and learn about her true place in the power hierarchies of Eternia and Etheria.

I think I found this story on my first search for MOTU/POP fanfic, and it was initially the title that attracted me. However, the story definitely goes into more than just Marlena's origins. It also presents a different, and perhaps controversial, view of Eternian and Etherian societies than what we're used to from the series. Eternia, for example, is more rooted in magic than in science.

I could go on and on about this story, but here are a few reasons I like it so much:

    1. The writing is absolutely beautiful. The author prefaces each chapter (4 in total) with pieces of poetry, and there's a fifth poetry stanza included in the final chapter. Yet it never seems forced. The author's own words are smooth and flowing, and she makes incredible use of language.

    2. As I mentioned before, the author has created a much different image of Eternian/Etherian societies. The roles of men and women, and the evolution of those roles in this piece, are especially interesting.

    3. This piece reveals more about Adora's characters, specifically about her thoughts and feelings, than anything else I've read. Though the story is told in third person, the thoughts we see most are Adora's. The final chapter is especially deep, allowing us to be with Adora as she contemplates her relationship with her brother, her past with the Horde, and her relationship with the mother she's just met.

    4. Finally, because we see things mostly through Adora's eyes, characters such as Randor and Marlena are cast in a whole new light. We're seeing them for the first time because Adora is, and our understanding of their personalities and actions changes.

Overall, it's a fantastic story, and one I make a point of reading at least four times a year. I'm not sure if the author is on these boards or not, but if they are, then thank you for writing this piece!

I enjoy Deltara's and Canadian_He Man's a great deal, but I enjoy many other writers as well in this forum to a large extent as well.

I don't know if there's any one particular fanfic story that stands out to me above the rest.

Catslyn's "Second Chance at Love" is what got me interested in writing He-Man/She-Ra fanfics, but my own style of writing is generally very different than her's (at least as her style is shown in "Second Chance at Love").

Still, "Second Chance at Love", and Kittrina's "Riika", stories, has probably impacted me the most, and would list as two of my favourite stories on this board.

With my dialogue, I try to strike a sort of balance between Catslyn's very romantic/inner turmoil/highly emotionally expressive/diplomatic and smooth dialogue, and Kittrina's edgy/dramatic/very honest, open, and true dialogue.

To me, the perfect He-Man/She-Ra fanfic would have the following...

    1) He-Man and She-Ra would be two of the five main characters in the story, and Hordak and/or Skeletor would be one/two of the other three.

    2) The dynamic twins would be treated as equals. I've read some stories that have a bit of a sexist edge to it - either one way, or the other - and that tends to turn me off a bit.

    3) It would effectivly explore the relationship between the twins, as well as at least one other prominent MotU/PoP relationship (Hordak/Adora, Hordak/Skeletor, Sorceress/Teela, etc...)

    4) It would be at least 30% action-oriented, but less than 80% action-oriented. I don't want non-stop action, but I don't want a complete lack of it either.

    5) It would have some neat twists and turns.

    6) It would have a largely serious feel, but with some touches of humour here and there.

    7) MotU/PoP protagonists are true to their Filmation characterization. MotU/PoP antagonists are either made more menacing, and/or explored in greater depth (i.e. made more into 'sympathetic villians').

I haven't read anything quite like that, but many writer's here have at least come close... Thor, Princessadora, Deltara, Johnissoevil, Catslyn herself, etc... have all wrote stories close to this.

Of course, this is just my taste in MotU/PoP stories.

Thanks to you about your kind words on my writing as well.

The MotU/PoP universe is a much more fascinating universe than I ever realized as a kid loving the shows. I enjoyed the shows, but a lot of the inner complexities were probably lost on me.

I find the MotU/PoP universe an incredibly fertile ground for telling great stories with captivating 'larger than life' characters.

The He-Man/She-Ra twin relationship is truly unique in all of fiction I find - there's just nothing quite like it.

I also love how Filmation took pretty good, solid fantasy/mythological templates - like lich, and valkyrie - and turns them into such awesome gripping characters (Skeletor, and She-Ra, respectively, in the case of lich and vakyrie).

I've also liked the concept of a feline humaniod race, and hence like your Kittrina a great deal as well, Tally.

Thanks, I swore that I would do her justice; but in the process, Riika developed into an entirely new entity than Kittrina. Riika seems to be like most of us at her age (18 going on 19): Uncertain, little confidence masked with smart and flirtatious remarks to hide just how insecure that she really is.

I can relate with this - been there, and did it - she has a heck of a hard future, and I want to make it as painless as possible (although it will be painful).

I suppose with any Hero epic, that the hero has to be tested to the core - but all will work out, I know this.

I like the idea of making this civilization (aside from Bolverk and his disciples) one of acceptance towards all races and creeds of people, not just as a whole, but down to the individual as well.

Ja, since my sister died, I have been kinda empty. It is nice the way that you have been writing Kittrina and myself....like I said - you have amazing potential Ryan. I sucked when I started writing a book, but through the help of betas and readers like you, I think that I have nearly nailed my style for the 'epic' kind of genre. Thanks to all that have helped me!

    In search for a fic

Greetings all! I'm new to this forum and hope to make many new friends on this site. Anyway, I haven't read a lot of He-Man fan fiction (yet) but there was this one Skeletor/Evil-Lyn one I really loved but can't find it anywhere anymore I think it was called "Shades of Purple" or something like it. It's an adult fan fic but I loved how the author portayed the evil duo's relationship. If anyone knows where I can find this fic or if you happen to be the author, could you please send me a link or a copy of the fic? I really loved it and just want to read it again.

Funny you should mention, because it was both you and Mostquitor that were an inspiration to me! Thanks!

Back in the days of the "Dudes" and "Chicks" of Fanfiction, there were some truly fantastic writers and stories - Volvic, Catslyn (of course), Parasite Eve, Lady Niko, Edieen (I botched that name, sorry), Masamuna, Classic Cowboy, Divia, cjclifford, Fusion Blaster, Deltara, Lord of Destruction, Slackbot, and Ashely - all had very incredible fanfics. I also liked how there was kind of a "group creativity" to forum in those days.

These days, there's some great writers that are up and coming. Thor, Mirage, Dave-Man, Druken Fist, and Jagwarknight all manage to belt out good ones. Jagwarknight and Mirage in particular are both doing a great job at bringing new ideas to the mythology.

And I still - to this day - argue that General Stingrad and PrincessAdora are two of the most underestimated fanfic writers out there today.

It's been a while since I've read some of my favorite ones, so I'm not sure if they are available on line anymore and I don't remember all the details.

Lord_Of_Destruction made a G.I. Joe and He-Man crossover called "Mark of the Serpent".
The author did an amazing job weaving together continuities and bringing a new story to life. It was well passed and enjoyable. I'm not sure if it was finished or not.

Someone wrote a long, but very good story called "Three Stones of Doom".
Again the author did an amazing job weaving together continuities. I believe
it was a mix of cannons including cartoon, movie, and mini-comic cannon.
It also featured He-Ro in the story as well. The story (Note: The story was complete before I began to read) read like a book.

There was this great story about Adora . . I can't remember the title . . she ended up rejoining the Horde and fighting Grizlor. I'm sure someone will remember what it was and who wrote it. It was a long series. It was compelling and it was a big story that takes place sometime after the last few episodes of PoP.

Judith had an unfinished fan comic, I think the title was something like "the girl who knew too little". It was brilliant and funny. Judith explored Etheria a few years in the future after the series.

I'm also quite fond of my own fan-fic (although I want to re-write and edit it).
It's called "Dying On Etheria". One thing I liked is that my story could stand on it's own, though I have more than a few sequels planned. I tried to follow and flesh out cartoon continuity, but I also added a dash of MOTU mini-comic continuity too.

Some day I hope to re-write it and write the sequels too. I really do want to share my vision of who Hordak is and his history. I also want to reveal the mysterious secret that Randor and Marlena kept from their children. And maybe I'll get around to exploring He-Ro and the origin of the Swords of Power and Protection.

Also if I can figure out how exactly to write it I've got a story about the end of Horde Prime's life. Not to mention the one about an Eternia without magic.

I've got so many stories in my head.

Though I've never really been into fanfic before, I have read some of that "New Legacy" stuff, a few of the Divia's stories (old stuff, but fun), and that fabulous Catslyn's "Sacrifice & Service" novel, which I really loved. What ever happened to that thing anyway? (Don't be hatin' on a noob here)

I honestly have no idea what's going on in the other stories. I skim them once in awhile and even read a few, but I don't actively follow any of the fics in here except for mine.

Yes, I've noticed that it wasn't finished (It was like not being able to see the last 15 minutes of a really great movie, really frustrating). Catslyn posted like 80 chapters over the period of 8 months I believe, and I know she mentioned something about the ending being already done.

Real pity, not only was it the best fanfic I've ever read, it was also the best MOTU story I've ever seen (I'm serious about this).

Divia's depiction of the Evil-lyn/Tri-klops relationship was really fun to read, she totally gave them substance, made them interesting. "Way of the warrior" was a great read, but the certain events that transpired there caught me a little off-guard.
