Just now saw this thread. That Horde PRime.... MAGNIFICENT!! I've never really picked an idea for PRime in my head, but you win. That is a great Horde Prime for me. *claps*

SKELEPIMP: thanks man! i'm glad you dig my stuff. if you ever want to use my version of horde prime in an illustration or comic, PLEASE feel free to do so--i'd love to see your take on him!

Predabot: thank you! i'm not sure if i plan to do more on that one--it was meant as a one off, but if i successfully get back in the swing of posting on the .org, maybe i'll get around to coloring that sucker.

coinilius: i really appreciate it--i'm going to try really hard to get back into a groove with my motu/pop stuff.

sonofblaine: wow, thank you! i'm glad you checked out my thread, and i'm glad you like my interpretation of horde prime. stay tuned, i hope to post more stuff soon!

These are very cool, I loved Zodak and Horde Prime, oh and Beastman was awesome too, so colorful. I hope you will keep making more, I'd love to see your version of Two-Bad or any of the Horde members. Will be looking forward for updates!

Ram_Man_21: i considered it--but ultimately, i don't think i have the time. if anything, i'd be more likely to do a storybook format, like the very first mattel mini-comics, which of course were actually storybooks, not comics.

krugos: thank you very much! i intend to keep going until i draw all the MOTU and POP toy characters at least (if i feel ambitious after all that, maybe i'll cover the cartoon characters too ). two-bad is high on my to-do list. are you thinking of any horde members in particular? until then, you can check out my take on double trouble disguised as a horde member and also this guy.

Man, if they ever make a cartoon like the old one, this would be a great style for it.

Gonzo Merman: thank you--that's very flattering!

Here's an illustration of a little known Fuerza-T prototype that I did for an upcoming COTU project:

For those who don't know, the figure was to be named Goldar, and was built from He-Man's head, torso, and legs, Jitsu's arms, and Fisto's armor. My drawing is pretty accurate to those details. I deviated a little, attempting to mimic the style of the Fuerza-T card art. This piece is not part of my "regular" series of Masters of the Universe drawings, as it deviates from my usual modus operandi, and was done for a specific purpose that COTU has in mind. The coloring, for example, is a blended style, as opposed to my usual cel-shading. A more J.Ho-ized version of Goldar (and the rest of the Fuerza-T cast) will come in the future.

    SWEEET MOTHER OF PEARL!!!!

    Goldar!!!!!!!!

Bootleg, you have no idea how thrilled I am to see this!

And you keep unintentionally supporting my project to boot

I LOVE this style, I don;t think I like it any better or worse than your "normal" style, both are amazing in their own way!

Goldar looks good - and the CotU having plans for him (and the Fuerza-T characters) is interesting

hey everyone-- thanks again for all the comments! i'm sorry i don't always reply in a timely manner, but i do read them and they're greatly appreciated!

DestrongerLupus: thank you so much man! you've been really supportive of my stuff, and it's truly appreciated.
    SERPOSsSerpentina: thank you!
Patreek: thanks dude, i'm glad he looks like his own character, as that was definitely one of my goals!
coinilius: well, it may interest you to know that i still owe the COTU guys one more illustration of a FT prototype.

my posts for today are a couple more 'out of the ordinary' MOTU illustrations. first up, JafariStew started up a thread (click here to see it) with a MOTU pic he did some 20 years ago, and i was reminded that i had never posted the cover to the sketchbook that i was selling at comic-con this year:

The lovingly rendered characters on that cover are (from left to right) Mer-Man astride Panthor, Whiplash, and Beastman, as rendered by me when I was about 9-years-old. FYI, the real version of the cover doesn't have the watermark with the blog URL across the cover. If you'd like more info, go here.

second, in another thread, BattleCatsMyDaddy posted a bunch of cool MOTU sprites converted from fire emblem (check them out here), and inspired me to finish up an old sprite of orko that i had started:

I started this a while back when I was trying to get into RPG Maker. The general proportions of the head (particularly the spacing of the eyes) mimic those of RPG Maker's character sprites, but this was rendered from scratch. I did try animating this at one point, but it was choppy at best. However, this is definitely something I'll try more of in the future.

Galvatron: soon! i have a shadow weaver and shokoti that need to be colored up--both are by-products of recent re-design challenges. and (as usual), plenty more is in the works. i really slowed down on illustrating canonical motu/pop characters in the second half of 07, so i'd like to get back up to speed.

For now, here's a follow up to Goldar, a little known Fuerza-T prototype that I did for an upcoming COTU project:

The figure was to be named Spector, and it ought to be painfully obvious that he was to be built primarily from Skeletor's parts. My drawing is pretty accurate to those details. I deviated a little, attempting to mimic the style of the Fuerza-T card art. Much like my illustration of Goldar, this piece is not part of my "regular" series of Masters of the Universe drawings, as it deviates from my usual modus operandi, and was done for a specific purpose that COTU has in mind. The coloring, for example, is a blended style, as opposed to my usual cel-shading. A more J.Ho-ized version of Spector (and the rest of the Fuerza-T cast) will come in the future.

    galaxy warrior: looking good!

When I was working on my illustration of Light Spinner, I decided to draw up her eventual alter ego as well. I finally got around to coloring it, so here's Shadow Weaver:

I'm happy with the pose on this one, except for the obscured Horde logo on her belt. I had a bit of difficulty coloring it--for some reason monochromatic red color schemes are something I have difficulty with, and I ended up making a lot of adjustments. The minor changes I made to her costume draw influence from Maleficent and Morticia Addams.

    Up next: Shokoti (standard version)

    Loving your Shadow Weaver!

Would have wished for a bit of "glow-effect" on her eyes though.

thanks guys! about glow-effects: as a general rule, i avoid gradient-type effects--overall i feel more confident when i stick to cell-shading. i'll try give that type of thing some more consideration in the future--i realize that as an artist i should probably be experimenting a bit more, or else i risk stagnation. thanks for the input--its greatly appreciated.

A few weeks ago, I drew this for the Shokoti re-design challenge. Here today, is a standard version of the character:

Pose is a bit awkward on this one, and something about the colors doesn't quite mesh.

Umm... out of curiosity, is anyone looking at this thread besides the 5 or so people who drop in and comment regularly? i know i left this thread neglected for a while, but i thought tackling a major character like shadow weaver last week would draw more than two responses.

It's probably just the good old Usenet Nod syndrome. People look, but they don't have anything to say, so they nod and move on. It can make Volatile Creative Types nervous, especially when the contrast the number of views with the number of replies.

I like your work, so I check out the updates... I just ain't usually got nuthin' to say... er...

BlueStreak: thank you very much, it means a lot to me that people enjoy checking in on this thread.
Slackbot: volatile? VOLATILE? WHO'S VOLATILE? *head explodes* kidding, kidding! i figured that might be the case, but i thought i may as well ask and make sure. i know i'm guilty of the silent nod sometimes too. thanks for looking in Slackbot--i like your work too!

In regards to thread comments; I always view this thread and ya blog when an update arises, yet I rarely comment, more due to lack of time and laziness. I feel the same way as yourself sometimes. Some of my Horde Chibis got more comments and views than others. All depends on people and time. Slackbots right though...would you rather see loads of "Thats really good", or someone offering some crit or advice. I keep trying to get crits for my work here and on DA. Sometimes it works . On DA I get a few comments of "OMG that is so cute.", that I now just say thanks. Not out of arrogance, but more so as I have no idea what else to say.
