That's cool. It looks like its the spawn of Serpos and is chained to the tower. Is it hidden away from the general populace of Eternia - so its mythical? Or commom knowledge that the spawn of Serpos is imprisoned at Viper Tower and everyone stays away?

    Cheshire Moon: thank you!

super-munkyboy: glad you dig it! the tower is supposed to be a colossal divine serpent, imprisoned via petrification. i hit a crossroads where i could have tweaked the serpent's colors to be a bit de-saturated so it would look less alive... but when it comes to motu, i crave bright primary colors!

BlueStreak: much appreciated! my current thinking is that the tower's location is not common knowledge, and is probably located in a remote area (perhaps jutting up from the sea?). in my version of things, this guy is not the spawn of serpos, but does have a close familial connection to serpos. things are not what they seem!

I missed the Huntara re-design challenge--but my take on Huntara was pretty direct (hardly qualifying as a re-design, in my mind). Here's my non-entry:

The overall result is somewhat Warcrafty and Night Elf-ish, but I don't mind. I think it's in large part because I added pointy ears to her, and made her armor look a bit more baroque (and therefore Warcraft-esque).

    I should be sleeping.

These are awesome, Viper Tower looks insanely wicked, and I love your Whiplash.

Kowl looks a little evil, but it seems like a good look on him.

Aw man Bootleg, that Viper Tower idea was exactly the one I had. Awesome job as always, but now I have to make sure what I draw doesn't look too much like yours to avoid being called a Faker around here LOL!

Great Huntara, mate! Sad to hear that you missed the redesign-challenge... Your might is always a blessing in those challenges!

I think you should consider giving Classics He-Ro a try next, actually. Yeah! That would be pretty neat methinks. I'm not sure if you've ever done He-Ro? And now that we have a classics design of Zoda(K) maybe we'll see you give the supreme black brutha' a go?

Torvik, gatchagrey, j-bird: thank you so much guys!! i'll try to increase my motu output--it's been low this year.

Ulisses31: thank you very much--i definitely intend to draw the NA he-man characters. i drew NA teela, which you can see here: http://bootlegsketch.blogspot.com/20...s-in-pink.html do you have any specific characters in mind?

super-munkyboy: thanks dude! you're right, she does have a MK kinda vibe--i didnt notice until you pointed it out. and i'll put eldor in the queue!

CRAZYMOTUFAN: kowl is just trying to look tough. glad you like it though!

Ram_Man_21: hey man, glad to see you drop in again, i appreciate it. i haven't been all that productive in this thread, but i hope to squeeze in a few more during the last third of this year.

theblock: thank you! and don't worry about it--my viper tower is very close to the original so i don't mind if there's a resemblance

Dollphane: i try to stick with the bright, primary colors in the spirit of the old school toys and filmation. thank you so much--i hope to see more of your own work!

Predabot: you are far too kind my friend! although my lack of free time was definitely a factor--i did intentionally skip the huntara and modulok challenges because my interpretations were pretty straightforward, and not redesigns in my mind. modulok is in the coloring stage and will be posted soon-ish. i have not drawn he-ro yet--i'll put both him and zodaK in the queue! and you can count on me for sure in the scrollos challenge!

thanks again for all the comments and views folks. here are a few MOTU quickies that i posted on my blog in the past few weewks, but forgot to post here-hope you enjoy:

Pelikan brand watercolors; black lines inked with Sakura brush pen. Displayed at roughly actual size.

At least a little bit of preliminary sketching goes into the pieces I put up here, and in the course of that preliminary work, there's a lot of miscellaneous doodling that goes in the margins. Occasionally, one of those doodles is worth cleaning up and coloring. Here's a more cartoony streamlined take on Trap Jaw:

Sorry for the missing images in this thread, folks! I changed my hosting, so it'll take me a while to go back and add the new links back in.

For now, you can go to my blog to see any images, and here's some new art:

As I sat here looking at the menagerie of action figures on my desk, it occurred to me that the MOTUC version of Orko would probably be the only figure I would keep if I had to sell off my He-Man collection. This in turn made me realize that Orko is one of my two favorite He-Man characters (the other being the Sorceress). True, Orko was most often relegated to the role of goofy sidekick, but I always thought he looked cool, had a cool species backstory, and as a character, he always had the potential for more.

I threw in some costume elements from the 200x version of Orko, but mostly kept his classic proportions. The big "O" on his chest, while iconic, was always a bit too goofy for me--so I styled it as a circular magical ward. Yes, I know, I'm splitting very nerdy hairs in regards to what's goofy and what isn't. Perhaps most significantly, I changed up his eyes, to give him more of an otherworldly quality. I don't think Orko should ever be played as "dark" or creepy, but giving a character an alien look can add a little edge to him, without changing his personality.

I think this is a huge improvement over my earlier depiction of Dree Elle.

Let me know what you think!

Liking how creepy you've made him. It definitely takes away the goofy aspect. If you combined the creepy eyes and talons with the Horseman version which was soo lanky and twisted, you'd almost have Orko the Wraith.

I do like that you turned the O into a magical emblem. Makes more sense, and fits in better with the costume.

I really love your Orko Bootleg!

I think the slightly more alien look makes him a much more interesting character, undermining his goofiness slightly - I can just see the heroic masters doing double takes to check that his screw-ups aren't just an act to keep them off balance.
A fabulous new wardrobe was revealed to me the day I held aloft my sword and said...

I really like your Orko redesign. I like the bib type thing you gave him, not sure what you would call that, but it makes his O look great!

Hey look, I drew Galen Nycroft, better known as the cartoon version of Modulok. Of course, in my typical strange manner, I have decided that Galen Nycroft and Modulok should be two different characters. They're both scientists--Modulok being an alien in the employ of the Horde, and Galen being an Eternian human who mutates himself with a sample of Modulok's DNA. I'll post my drawing of the toy version of Modulok later this week.
