Argh and double argh. Hardly any time on the forums of late, due to a) family circumstances, and b) absolutely terrible internet connection (happy to take the money but can't deliver the goods!)
Behind on several classic episode review threads, have to take shots of Roboto comparison legs for last week's thread...
But anyway, just got enough time to get this week's classic episode review thread rolling. This week's is a sometimes overlooked character, SPIKOR.
I got my Spikor when I went shopping with my Grandma one Saturday morning. She was always buying me stuff, and this particular trip I chose the recently released Spikor.
Spikor was an awesome looking character. A really cool looking purple colour-scheme, and - of course - covered in rubber spikes.
His left arm had a trident, which - contrary to some sources - wasn't spring loaded; it manually slid in and out. It was a nice addition, although did strike me slightly as a 12th hour thought, to stop it being a standard twist-waist-for-power-punch figure. Interesting (well, mildly) to note also, that Spikor's "special" arm was his left one, whereas all of the other figure's with "special" arms (Trap Jaw, Fisto, Jitsu, Roboto, Ninjor, etc.) were on their right.
The only minor niggle I have, is that maybe the face looked a little goofy, something quite common with the classic figures when looked at nowadays.
Spikor is one of the few figures that, after my original one, that I don't have loads of second-hand examples of. So maybe he's very slightly rarer on the second-hand market (or maybe it's just my own personal experience.
After being introduced in the mini-comic 'Spikor Strikes' (which also doubled as Sy-Klone’s showcase mini-comic), Spikey was occasionally present but never really used to any great extent in the various MOTU media.
He was one of the later Evil Warriors introduced in the second season of the Filmation cartoon series. He was presented rather zombie-like, and this fitted in with my own personal ideas of a back-story, that Skeletor had got a body and modified it with spikes to make it into a walking arsenal.
Anyway, in the cartoon... Spikor was used a few times, although mostly was used as a very much generic evil warrior. Sometimes he appeared with his trident arm, other times he had a regular left arm.
Spikor did not appear anywhere in the 200x revamp toy-line or accompanying cartoon series. Which is a real shame, as I would have loved to see what the Four Horsemen would have done with the character, as I know it would have been awesome. Looking at what they did with Two Bad, Whiplash... ah, we can but dream. Staction figure, maybe? Well, we are getting Jitsu, so who knows!
Anyway, all-in-all... rating... a tough one. A great looking figure, but not much background depth... ohh... can't decide. I think I'll go with a favourable and maybe slightly generous 8 out of 10.
So there's my ramblings on our spikey fiend.
Please feel free to add your own thoughts, comments, memories... anything to do with Spikor. And whether you post or not, don't forget to rate the figure in the poll!![]()
