everyone, thank you so much for the generous comments!!!

Patreek: i'm glad you like it man! thanks again for inviting me to join in! and great work on the bio!
Mike Bock: thanks dude... the bandage snakes are something that was in Patreek's earliest pics, and i wanted to keep them in.
Predabot: thank you--i tried to draw wraptor in such a way that he would fit in with the other MOTU/POP sketches that i've done.
Ionus: i'm glad you enjoyed my take--thank you so much.
    super-munkyboy: i can't wait to see yours!
galaxy warrior: that is quite a compliment coming from the inner circle of COTU itself!
bad2begood: that was exactly my intention! i'm glad you picked up on it.

My version of Wraptor is definitely meant to be in the style of the classic toon. I had seen Bearshow's design already, and Patreek had given me a sneak peek of Buffalo Bill Man's work-in-progress for reference. Their designs and final renderings were fantastic and done firmly in the style of the 200x style. Putting Wraptor into "classic" mode really just meant simplifying some costume elements and leaving out the skeletal snake appendages. The colors are heavily influenced by Bearshow's version, though I simplified and brightened the colors somewhat, to give Wraptor the cartoony feel of the old series. I added the horny ridges on his brow just because I thought it made him look more dinosaur-y, and simplified the whip so that it wouldn't distract from the snake-bandage-tendril-thingees.

i don't know what happens to thread attachments once the threads get archived, so to avoid any future dead links, here's wraptor (hosted by me), one last time (click for larger view):

I'm actually really glad that you wanted to do Wraptor in Classic style Bootleg. First off all I like that it fits with your other art posts but its also cool to see him in both 200x and Classic.

OK FOLKS.... we have about 24 hours left for voting so anyone who hasn't voted yet but wants to clicky clicky... things are still pretty darn close. :-)

THIS JUST IN!!! Buffalo-Bill-Man's amazing drawing below...

    EDIT AGAIN:

Here he is with his Sacrificial Blade

Wow! Amazing work, guys. You really go all out!!

Bootleg: Wowowowow. If he were animated (as in the cartoon) he'd freak a lot of kids out! Awesome. I like the bandage snakes and how they remain flat while still looking alive. The snake emblem behind the jewel on his chest is a nice touch as well!

BBM: Skele-snake tongue!! That's so cool. I can really see the bandage snakes slithering around someone, then transforming back into tightly bound bandages with a 'poof'! The different weapons are fantastic, and it's really cool to see the same image with different ones. Not sure which is my favorite at this point.

    Wraptor by Super-Munkyboy

OK here is our final piece of Wraptor art by SUPER-MUNKYBOY! This version is more of a redesign and different from the other versions as his developement came about because of a fanfic that is in the works. I don't want to reveal too much but there is a very good reason that he is missing his head piece. You'll all find out eventually. :-)

Oh WOW! These are so cool! I can't say I have any favourites cause they're all equally Awesome. Now that the basic design is fixed I might just have to step up & make my own little pic after my exams.

If ever there will be another fan-based character contest hosted by Royalt, I think our friend here, stands a very good chance of winning it.

Great job, bootleg, Buffalo Bill Man, and Supermonkeyboy!

I really commend bootleg and BBM on addressing the "snake bandage" issue with some great innovations. The main reason I excluded the concept on my version is I could not come up with a satisfactory "power display" on how the wraps would become snakes without destroying the flow of the character - but you two came up with fantastic ways to do it!

bootleg - I never thought of keeping the "living bandages" as strips of linen, but with snake like cut-outs!! I love this concept, 'cause we get the snakes, but it still keeps the wraps! Genius!!! Also, I really like the more saurian-like face!

BBM - Great piece as always, brother! I also like the idea of the spectral snakes; I can imagine the piece animated with the strips unleashing into a whirlwind of "phantom snakes" that swirl around the victim until they wrap around and transform back into bandages! Sweet stuff!!!

This was a great concept, Patreek, and I love all the ideas that everyone has come up with! I want a Wraptor staction, please!

I think we need to clone Roya1tus and get the clone on this right away. While we've got the machine running, let's clone a couple more and get a Spyfly staction and some others as well!

That would be awsome if you were able to draw up Wraptor again! I mean you are the king of the snake men here on the .org :-) Good luck with those exams BTW!

What a great project and what a great turn out. I think there should be a community effort for every fan character. Seeing such a range of styles for one character is pricless.

Here are some of the higher res versions of My designs for Patreek:

Patreek, Are we supposed to be discussing the best Wraptor image or the next character that should go Wraptor's treatment? I'm confused.

Since everyone else is pointing what they like about the images, I'm going to be honest and point out that I don't like about them:
Bearshow's vision of him looks more like a feral beast than a SnakeMan, and is more-than-slightly decomposed. Bearshow definitely has the Snake part down, but not the Man part.

Buffalo-Bill-Man's vision, while very well done, has to upload the same picture multiple times to show each of Wraptor's weapons. There's also no indication on his body or armor that he is/was aligned with the SnakeMen in the images, which should be important since he is a former King. Weapons don't count towards the Snake alignment because anyone can use them.

I can't even tell what's going on in super-munkyboy's vision.

Bootleg's version seems to be the best of the four. At least he explained what he did and noted any changes he made from Patreek's original concept. The eyes, however, look like they belong on a living SnakeMen, not on someone that has been mummified.

Sorry if I seem pessimistic. It's just the way I view things.

    The Winner Is... Ickthia

It isn't to discuss the BEST picture... its just meant to be used to present the final drawings and discuss who should be developed next. The only competitive thing involved is between the characters vying to be the next one developed.

Anyway, the final moments of this poll have been exciting... Ickthia kept trucking right along and then at the last moment Terror Dac got a bunch of votes.

SO then I was thinking, well shoot do I have to have a run off vote? I didn't really want to do that because I'd rather just get right to things and not drag this out longer... plus I plan to have many more of these so the other characters will get their time.

THEN I got a pm with a vote from Thor that couldn't be counted because the poll had closed two minutes previously.

SINCE it serves as a tie breaker I'm going to count the vote....

    and the winner is....
    ...
    ...
    ICKTHIA!

To be honest, I'm really surprised... I wasn't originally going to include her in the list because I didn't know if she was strong enough or if people would like like her, but there you have it!

SO everyone meet me in the Ickthia thread! :-)

i can't speak for asp'r... but I felt your pic was just too busy. there needs to be some line thickness variation or better lighting and shading to help define what is going on in the piece. i'm not saying it's bad, it's definitely detailed and a full piece of art.

I think the reason BBM's doesn't have the snake men symbol we all know is because this knew anc one was really cool and more fitting with the whole egypternian thing. I really like it, its a cool concept... I THINK DOompuppet thought it up not sure.

My thought was that probably over the thousand years that past the emblem probably changed?

By the way Super-MunkyBoy, I just saw your wraptor and that is awesome! I obviously love all the other pictures but one thing I really wanted to see was a swarm of snake bandages coming out almost like locusts, and yours captures that FOR SURE! Its bad ass... I can see the busy thing a little I guess... but the detail is amazing and you can really look at this piece for a long time and keep noticing new things which I love.

Looks an awful lot like the idea I tossed out. Could it be that I inspired something this cool?
