Tung Lashor vintage figure review thread

Another quiet week last week for Dragstor, but a lot of the old threads keep popping up and getting added to, so maybe newer threads will get added to in due course.

Anyway, it's been a little while since we last looked at a Snake Man, so let's this week turn our attentions to that tongue-flicking foe, TUNG LASHOR.

Tung Lashor was released as part of the fifth wave, along with King Hiss and Rattlor. His 'feature' was that you could turn a dial on his back, causing his tongue to flick out of his mouth.

By the time of his release, I had generally gone off the newer figures, preferring the more barbarian-like early releases. When I started 'seriously' collecting the figures years later, the very first lot that I got as mentioned with Dragstor last week, also contained my first Tung Lashor.

Tung Lashor is quite a good figure, with an interesting feature. I also like his colour scheme. (There are actually two variants - some don't have the purple markings continuing on his back, whereas some later ones do).

As with Rattlor, Tung Lashor was adapted to an Evil Horde member to appear in Filmation’s 'She-Ra: Princess of Power' cartoon series. Out of the two, Tung Lashor appeared more often; and neither of them really resembled their figure version (based maybe on prototypes?). Tung Lashor was confusingly called "Tung Lashor" on some occasions, and simply "Tung" on others (again, maybe stemming from prototype?). Also, more confusingly, one episode showed him to be working for Skeletor - even though he still had a Horde emblem on his chest!!

In the 200x version, TL made a return appearance in the Mike Young Productions cartoon series, and we have since seen a staction of him, really beefed up and with one heck of a tongue, in some ways a far cry from the original figure.

All-in-all, although I wouldn't point to him as one of the classic MOTU figures as such, I like the vintage figure in itself enough to give it a decent 8 out of 10.

Now I'd like to hear your own thoughts, comments and memories of Tung Lashor. And whether you post or not, don't forget to rate the vintage figure in the poll!!

Tung Lashor kicks ass (I felt like making a play of words with lick but that would've sounded wrong). Even though he looks more like a lizard than a snake, to me it only shows how King Hiss has power over all reptile creatures.

The figure itself has great play value, and even higher annoyng value (beat only by the ones you can actually shoot something with). Accessories are decent, especially the dragonfly bow is one of the more stylish, but especially personal MotU weapons. If only he could hold them better...

Back in the day at my cousin's with the all out war Motu vs. Transformers and later MotU vs. TMNT, the last man standing was usually Tung Lashor or Sy-Klone.

In the comics he's shown to have power to stun the mighty He-Man himself. Which is a feat not that many villains have been able to do.

And I don't want to talk about Princess of Power in this context, destroying my favourite character like they did. Let's just all pretend those episodes never existed?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the dragonfly bow! One of the best later accessories. If there was an accessory contest on Eternia, Tung Lashor would definitley be in the running.

Tung Lashor is one of the most gorgious MOTU figures ever! His colors are incredible and his action feature is awesome. A plus for him: with his cross-shaped feet, he has absolutely nnnooooooooo trouble standing by himself!

Easily a 10 out of 10. Tung Lasher was the only snake man I had as a kid. They all seemed really dumb, and gimmicky. But I saw something different in Tung Lasher. I was really into lizards, and under water creatures when I was little(still am really), and he always looked more like a lizard than a snake to me, and I quess that's why I liked him.

I asked for him for Christmas that year, and I remember being so excited when I opened him!! I couldn't wait to rip him outta the package. I loved his bow, and his staff too. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I always gave the cross bow to Moss Man as a weapon. I'm not sure why, it just seemed like a better weapon for him than Tung Lasher. In fact, my vintage Moss Man is diplayed right now with that cross bow. Anybody else?

Anyway, like I said, he was the only Snake Man I had, and I was fine with that. It just made him that much more special to me. And after awhile though, he pretty much just joined the ranks of Skeletor's goons, but I always gave him special treatment, after all, he was the Only Snake Man still alive after the great Snake Wars...(that's how I used to play it when I was little. Oh yeah, and by the way, Kobra Kahn was an Evil Warrior, not a Snake Man, not then, and not ever ...... at least in my head.)

I'm a fan of the Snakemen anyway, but Tung Lashor is one of my faves, I remember seeing him for the first time along with Hiss and Rattlor in a department store and really liking the concept of a shooting tongue and the bright colours were amazing.

Sadly I never got Tung Lashor, I barely got Rattlor around that time. I got a complete Tung Lashor a couple of years back and It's one of my favourites - a very unique looking character with funky colours and the great Dragonfly crossbow and staff.

    Figure Rating ~ 10/10

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but looking at Tung Lashor's head reminds me alot of cartoon Clawful.

If repainted red I think Tung Lashor is Clawful not like toy that came out.

Anyone else think that Tung Lashor was meant to be Clawful?

Its a strange debate but again the head is much more similar to cartoon Clawful than cartoon Tung Lashor.

Someone could do a custom Clawful using TL figure and add Clawful's arms.

I was about 15 when the Tung Lashor figure was released, so I caught the lewd connotations of the figure's name right off. My wife thinks somebody at Mattel must have been nuts to have given a figure a name like that. I liked the figure, but I thought he was a little too gimmicky. I gave him a 6.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people gave Tung Lashor a 10/10. He gets a 10 from me as well. Maybe it was just the colors, but he was always my favorite character to carry around. I used to fill my red wagon with muddy water and make a swamp for him to rule (Merman wasn't happy).

I never really liked snake men, except Tung and Snake face. But when I was little, I thought that Tung was a frog

tung lashor was awsome,my friend todd had one when i was a kid,i never did,and still dont have him,i passed one up on ebay for faker, and i regretted it almost right away.i love faker, but i think i was looking forward to tung lashor more than i thought.plus the faker i bought, the ppl i got it from i mean, gave me a hard time. i paid for it on the 27 of sept and still havent recieved it in the mail.and they dont communicate well either.the best part is that he figure is all i ordered from them and they live in miami,im in tampa.how long does it take? not long so they are slacking on the shipping. i know some ppl ship a bunch of stuff all at once but this is crazy. i got a he-ro from friggin brooklyn new york in three days and these guys dont even have a tracking number yet? oh well next time ill buy tunglashor cuz obviously passing him up is a bad omen!

I came across this site while trying to find info on and old contest back in 85 that was a create a character drawing contest and I was very surprised to see what people have written about Tung Lashor. I'm sure I will get a lot of people calling BS on me but I had drawn Tung for that contest when I was 6 years old. Just some points to the non believers 1. The name, I was 6 and thought that was how you spelled tounge 2. The 3 fingers on the hand and 3. The color scheme of him, do you really think that 30 year old designer would actually say hey let's make this guy with only 3 fingers and make him purple and orange. When you actually look at the figure you can see it was designed by a kid. You could only imagine my shock when I see my character actually made the following year. If anyone could help me out I was trying to find out if anyone else had received anything from mattel for entering the contest I remember getting a Ram man magnet that stayed on my fridge door for years, I think it came with some stickers also, and a letter saying that I was not a finalist but my drawing maybe used to create a character at a later time. I just believed that it was a standard letter that they sent out to all the contestants and was just wondering if there was anyone else out there that had received the same thing.

Probably my most favorite member of the Snake Men. Remember getting him: I was hypnotised by those great colours! He came with a brilliant action feature, the regular Snake Men staff and that awesome Dragonfly Crossbow. I also like his froglike hands and feet (as a kid I thought of him more as being a kind of mutated frog than a snake). Still love this guy big time! He gets a 10!

    6. Better than average, better than "many" snakemen.

Still not one of the higher tier figures all around however.
