Earl Norem Gallery Search!

Overall I really like it Pig Boy, but I think it could "pop" more (I don't really have any suggestions on how to do that at this point, so that might not be the most helpful comment - maybe the font color?).

You could also consider a different font for the big "Norem," as right now it looks a little bit like "Horem."

It's a great choice of graphic, though - that's one of my favorite He-Man vs. Skeletor scenes.

I'm not sure about the name myself, but seeing that, I'm thinking that maybe, you could name it Enorem.com or E-norem.com? I think it would be a clever little pun, Norem is now electronic. ^^ Yeah, well you get it.

And maybe you could use different versions of it, like one with the Hulk, Transformers and one with Conan too? And they just rotate randomly.

The black looks striking on this He-man one, but that rock sticking out at Skelly's feet... hmm.. no, it looks a bit weird. But then, it would look rather strange if we cut it all out. SO... I'm thinking, try it with a partially brown background? And perhaps some black details? Just to see what it would look like, with the rock blending into some brown.

The entrance is good enough onto the content!!!

I think earlnorem.com is the best choice. About a year ago I was looking for stuff on him and that was the first thing I tried typing in cause I figured he'd have to have his own site. Once you start playing around with it and but enorem, or artofnorem, it gets harder for the site to be found. I really think earlnorem.com is the obvious choice.

I'll fix that "Horem" thing and tidy up the figures.

I think Norem.com is good because it does leave it open should Norem himself ever have one of his own. This is only a fansite after all.

Flipping the graphics is an idea I suppose but I'm not about to dump loads of my time on this so I think this will do us fine for now.

But we need more hunting of images lads! Come on, get out there find us some content!!! We've only got 18 pieces so far!!!!

this is an awesome and worthy project--and the splash page looks great Pig Boy! i hope somebody turns up some good scans of his storybook work (transformers, fantastic four, and i think gi joe as well).

It shouldn't be a problem as He-Man.org is what eats up 99.99999% of the servers traffic.

But let me know before anyone registers it.

Can the domain be registered for free then? Stuff like that is usually a few quid? I'm cool with having it hosted with you.
I feel that Norem.com sounds less official that EarlNorem.com and as this is an unofficial site.....although maybe he might want this to be official as it looks so nice!
But I am happy with either.

For the graphic, doing it like one of his signatures is a great idea, but it's a bit rough for that as-is.
I'd try not to embelish so much on the man's own identifying mark.
It's starting to look less like his signature, and more like it was ripped out of paper.
Maybe leave the textures, but don't alter his own letterforms so much.

norem.com was already registered back in 1998 by the Norem family... I have no idea if there is a relation.

So I went ahead and registered earlnorem.com
When you all figure out who specifically is coding the site, I'll get you setup with FTP access and you guys can go to town and do your thing.

It's Easter weekend, so I don't want to bug Mr. Norem today about specifics.
I had talked to him once about a site, and he was receptive.
But since I have too many things on my plate, I never did anything with the idea.

Not sure if he can help you guys with content or not.
He's been retired for a long time, and he sold off almost all of his art a long time ago as well.
But I can ask.

I've just sent another batch of covers to Pig Boy, and I've also started sending out some hooks to other web-resources, if they can share some of their content.

I agree with Val.

For the most part I really like it. I would take a little artistic license and remove the rock from Skletor's foot and rebuild the missing part. Same for He-Man left foot. It looks cut off.

And a little tweaking to the "NOREM" signature, and I'll really dig it.

I also agree with BCI Guy on the feet/rock.

But those things and the logo stuff aside, it really is looking sweet!

WOW! I really like how this is shaping up. Kudos on the Awesome splash screen Eamon. With you designing it I think it should be great.It would be great to see a site finally dedicated to Mr.Norem & see his immortal peices of art.

On a side note, what software( or script) do you use for designing, Eamon.

It's an auction site that has a TON of high resolution (like 7"x9" at 300 dpi) Norem images that you can grab. It has paintings, covers and sketches. Some of the covers have multiple images showing the pencils, color roughs and the final.

It's awesome.

Eamon, that graphic is awesome. However, I do agree about it looking like "Horem". The font is great, but the N.

I have some Conan magazines from the 70's, I'll have to dig them up to help out ...

BUT... they ask for an awful lot of personal information... dunno' how I feel about that.

BCI GUY: I signed up, and I'm not regretting it! I've already gotten some awesome fodder, both a first-appearance of Flip, Little Nemo-strip and a 75+ oil-paintings for a giant Carl Barks poster! Either that... Or I'll have to start a fan-site. Hrrm.

I don't like the idea of a whole button and page devoted to us.
A small text link like 'contributors' the bottom of the contents pages will be fine I think.

Hi All,
I was told there was/ is a potential thread here on Illustrator Mr. Earl Norem. Well, My name is Ray and I live in RI, USA. I have been collecting Earls pencil prelims and color layouts for a few years now. I also talk with Earl "almost" on a weekly basis.

He is a great guy as well as his lovely wife is a great lady.

Earl should also be recognized for his lifelike illustrations in the "mens action" magazines of the 1950's through 1970's.
