Here he is... in all his anguished, twisted, bio-mechanical glory...

The idea here? HP is something to behold -- a force of the cosmos. He is everything dark and perverted about both nature and science, the natural and the fabricated. On his person he bears grafted feathers and humanoid limbs to demonstrate his subjegation of the natural order.

He is the dark god of the Etherial realm.

    Hope you all enjoy.

THAT... is one seriously twisted sonuvagun.

Quite a horror for sure, and a Dark God indeed.

It's almost a little bit too twisted even. Btw, what do you envision the Horde Prime's capabilities to be? Can he leave the throne-room that he resides in, scouring the cosmos in a semi-astral form alá the UK Comic version, or is he bound to his place of power, like the Filmation-version?

I'd have to say he's got a physical body bound to a place of power, be it his ship, his lair, etc. On the flip side, his "god half" can assume an astral form, allowing him to travel wherever he wishes (though he's only at full power when he's tied to his physical half -- his weakness, so to speak).

My rationale is this: HP is almost the Lucifer of the MotU universe -- the supreme evil being. His darkness is nigh unfathomable.

His visual qualities should suggest as such.

    That's my two cents.

That's a wicked piece there Prime and i totally dig the concept!!!

I am finding it hard to make out what he is though.
Aside from the head there's no semmetry to him so that's probably why.
That head is totally cool by the way.
Maybe I need to see it in colour?!

Intentional, actually. My idea with this concept was to keep the character more of a mass, an imposing silhouette, rather than a discernable figure. When you look at the piece, the first thing you notice is a top-heavy, hulking but flowing shape, broken up by the staggered feathers. He's less humanoid, and more of a functioning jumble of pieces and parts, limbs and organics, held together by tech and "god-like" force. His head is quickly identifiable, but that's more for traditional character recognition.

Hope that makes sense. I might not be right, but that was the thinking.

Prime - that HP is VERY cool.

What is the size comparison of his physical form as compared to Hordak? Is he still huge? Or smaller?

I'd say slightly larger... It has crossed my mind that the large, smoke-hidden form of HP would merely be his spirit or astral form, projecting from his physical throne.

Prime: that's fantastic! he's like a lovecraftian deity or something out of Elric--i love it!

Predabot: when you post the voting poll can you please disregard my old Horde Prime picture--the combined piece below is all i want to enter.

OK... Prime is a tough act to follow, but i'll try anyways:

The scene in the center is a revision of my previous drawing of Horde Prime--in fact, the secondary head and the silhouette of Hordak on the platform were both directly lifted from the original piece. The figures on the left and right, however, are all new. The entire basis for my interpretation of Horde Prime is the theory that Horde Prime himself was the basis for the symbol of the Horde. The little guy on the left is based on the accessory that came with the original Hordak action figure. The throne room in the center piece is based on scenes from the cartoon. Finally, the Horde Prime on the right combines elements of Hordak's costume (Filmation) and the UK comic book version. In-fiction descriptions follow...

    * * *

Horde Prime's Throne Room (center): Centuries before the Horde invasion of Etheria, Horde Prime engaged the heroic champion Light Hope in a battle of apocalyptic proportions. The battle ended in a stalemate, both combatants having received near-fatal wounds. Light Hope sacrificed his wounded physical form to become caretaker of the Crystal Castle and protector of Etheria. His power was greatly increased but his new discorporate form was bound to the castle itself.

Meanwhile, suffering under the effects of Light Hope's powerful magic attacks, Horde Prime found himself crippled and trapped in his giant form, unable to shapeshift back. He retreated to his flagship, the
Velvet Glove, and there, with a combination of advanced Horde science and pirated Infinitan magic, his servants built a sarcophagus-like regeneration chamber. The chamber, combined with Horde Prime's shapeshifting abilities, allowed him to slowly form a new body, gestating within the colossal rotting husk of his old form. This embryonic body often manifested itself as a secondary head, sprouting from the eye socket of Horde Prime.

Horde Prime's twisted body renewed itself in a twisted mockery of life and birth over the course of centuries, and in the meantime he plotted revenge against Light Hope and Etheria (it was during this time that Horde Prime's younger brother and trusted disciple Hordak became the de facto leader of the Horde).

Horde Familiar (left): Through the use of his shapeshifting and magical abilities, Horde Prime can focus his life force to temporarily create a small demonic familiar to act as a spy or messenger. Horde Prime can see through the eyes of these creatures, and act through them. These extensions of Horde Prime were generally reserved for the gravest situations, such as delivering critical information to Hordak without risk of interception. Many rebels have made the fatal mistake of judging Horde Familiars by their relatively small size, failing to realize that a creature with even just a fraction of Horde Prime's cosmic power is still a formidable foe.

Horde Prime Reborn (right): With the revelation that the two most powerful beings on Eternia (He-Man and Skeletor) had disappeared from the planet, Horde Prime realized that it was the time to strike. Forcing an acceleration of his regeneration, through arcane lore and untested science, Horde Prime is reborn! The cruel leader of the Horde is still regaining his god-like levels of power, but even still he is perhaps the most feared being in the universe. While Hordak holds the Etherian front, Horde Prime leads the invasion of Eternia. Horde Prime seeks nothing less than the utter subjugation of He-Man's homeworld, after which he will return to Etheria to crush his old enemy Light Hope.

    * * *

If this were a toy, I would see Horde Prime's throne room as a playset, with his giant form being molded into the facade of the regeneration chamber, and his giant arm being a spring-loaded capture claw. Of course, the highly sought-after Horde Prime Reborn action figure would be packed in exclusively with the playset.

I can get behind that. I've also had this vision, that Horde Prime is almost like an anti-power, to Greyskull. That the power of Greyskull is the only thing that can destroy him.

Ergo, both Skelly and Hordikins would want the power to destroy their master and cheat him of his rule of the universe.

Hey, what kind of colour-scheme do you see him to have btw? Would it be symmetrical, as a sort of counter-point to his physical form, or would it just be all sorts of tones of brown and green and red and grey all over?

EDIT: Hey, Prime I just realized something, with regards to your explanation of the smoke, why not have it that he actually has several small of those, shrines where you commune with him?? And that's when you see the smoke! Like in every major Horde Installation, or ship. He is a dark god after all.^^

Bootleg: You got it! This one is superior anyway! Except that the colour-scheme on the giant form is a bit unfitting, white and gold?? I thought he was an anti-force to Light-hope..? I think you should try changing the gold to silver and the robe to grey or some blueish/purpleish, and try putting some of that iron in there, that rocked on the old one, better accentuating his worn out husk. ( keep the jewelry orange tho) And this creates more of a contrast to his refreshed and vibrant reborn form.

Ah cripes! This poll will be absolute murder!! So many great designs... 0_0

I love those ideas, dude. For sure.

As far as color is concerned... I'd go for a unified color scheme to contrast the more whimsical design. Definitely dark, foreboding colors, tho...

Crazy! Why haven't I been keeping up with this thread! So many great entries have surfaced recently!

Supermonkeyboy: I think it's great what you've done with the various stages of the creation of the character. Love the cosmic enforcer tie in! Great work.

Dr Bo: Excellent job, your image really creates a great mental tapestry of possibilities for the character. Very inspired.

Prime: OMG. Sick! Wonderfully twisted and imaginative. Absolutely stunning (and great to see you around again... BTW).

Bootleg: I love it. It is giving me a Walt Simonson vibe (ala Beta Ray Bill) and that's not a bad thing! Wonderful.

So many great entries for this great character, it's going to be tough to vote!
    Such a great character

Thanks GoatMan. I just wanted to show an evolution and get into the character of HP more than just a drawing. My final stage of HP will more than likely be in sketch format, as I've been busy again. But its getting there. I don't think its gonna be as scary as Predabot thinks it may be.

I'm loving Prime's take on HP, very disturbing, almost Elephantial / witch doctor.

Bootleg's knocked himself out of the park though. Definitely like the idea of regeneration through his eyeball

Excellent! And yeah, those colours make a lot of sense btw. =)

Well, lads. The deadline is today, but there are still some lingerers ( hint, Munky/LoD, hint) and I still haven't gotten Skelepimp and Battle_brak to join!

But, I will renew my efforts, and attempt to contact them both, and have them JOIN.

Hey, if I got Prime to join...

I might post later this evening about yet another lengthening of the deadline, because of this. Stay tuned.

Predabot: thanks man! the white robe was actually something that i envisioned as soon as i decided to revise my old pic, though i couldn't completely explain why... part of my inspiration was the idea of sterile white hospital gowns, and another part of it was because i do enjoy giving "good" or "hero" colors to villains on occasion, to sort of subvert people's visual expectations (in spite of that, i did try dark colored robes when i was playing with the colors, and it just didn't look right to me).

    Patreek: thanks dude!

Goat Man: i'm glad you like it--any comparison to simonson and beta ray bill is a good comparison, as far as i'm concerned! i'm a big fan of simonson and the whole kirbyesque tradition that he comes from.

2-bad: i really appreciate it man. I dig your interpretation of horde Prime too--in fact I hope you continue to develop your other versions of him as other characters!

    Ionus: thank you so much!

super-munkyboy: thanks dude! i'm diggin on your version too--the cosmic-enforcer-gone-bad is a great angle, and i can't wait to see the third stage!

also, in case anyone's interested, here's another horde prime-related drawing that i just posted (not for the contest though): http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/...d.php?t=159196
