I totally see where you're coming from w/ the teaser. I'm a designer, and leave the typos up to copywriters (we do have to listen to them), but I'm fully aware of what it's like not having assets, and trying to bring hype to something that barely exist, whether in concept, or in your case content. My first question would be, "is this for official release?" because you might not get to call the shots on the copy anyways, but I have no idea who your working for, I just see the logo (at the bottom that is) and assume it will see many hands before the light of day.
I actually think it is great just as some simple copy, the logo, and space n' light. It leaves less for people to hate and lets the mind develop for itself how awesome the movie will be. If anything I would do some more logos and see how they test, that will ultimately be more important than the entire teaser itself. The space is perfect, I think it looks updated while still reminiscent of the old (movie and series). I might consider putting larger artifacting (not so much light particles, but more meteor type stuff) in there, to give it more of a grand feel, which might even harken right back to the card backs, which is a plus I think. I wouldn't worry about the synergy of the copy, as it looks fine. It's true that simply centering the lines seems too eassy, and while to many designers it looks lazy these days, you have to think about the consumer, and what they think looks intuitive. Sadly, most times they see creative justification as awkward. All too many times have I have a client (or account rep) come back with design decisions based on their initial gut reaction of what was expected.
I was excited to see it when I first saw it, I thought SWEEEEET! That is my honest gut reaction. As much as I love a good critique ;•), they can be very counterproductive when they are taken too far, and often times leave you questioning your abilities. Bottom line is, everybody has different taste, and this is an great layout that still plays it safe to existing fans, and new fans alike.
Plus, when you have assets you can knock out some more content related pieces, and move beyond the teaser, then everybody will have a better feel for the style of the movie. I look forward to that indeed!
cheers, all the best!
