Can Someone Just Explain ONE Thing To Me?

I was watching my Vol. III Set. Saw Power of grayskull where it shows King Grayskull fighting the Snakemen, saying that Hordak then defeated the Snakemen, then King Grayskull fought the Horde and defeated them, but he ended up dying, and thus embued the Council with their magical powers.

In that case, HOW did the Council end up fighting the Snakemen and imprisoning Serpos, after the Snakemen had already been banished to the void by Hordak? Did they travel back in time??? I don't get it!

I dont think it said he banished them to anywhere, just he beat them. And even if it did we dont know exactly how long before the current MYP he-man this took place. Could have been 10,000 years as far as we know. So even if they were trapped they could have gotten out or something.

Yeah, they were only defeated. So, then they just hung out in darkness...regenerated for who knows how long. With Hordak gone and Grayskull dead, the Snakemen were free to try and conquer. Until they ran into the Elders and Zodak....then they were banished to the void.
    That sounds about right.

I don't think the writers bothered thinking that out, but you can kind of make it up in your head to fill in the gaps. I'm thinking Hordak whooped Hsss' butt real good, thus clearing the path to a full-fledged battle with Grayskull that ended... well, we all know that part.
So the Council members go out into the world to rule, Veena becomes the template for the Sorceress and the castle gets all locked up tight with her and the sword in it...
Then I'm thinking Hssss "comes to" or whatever, and realizes with both Hordak AND Grayskull out of the way, Eternia is his for the taking. Brings Serpos into battle, the Council Of Elders battle Serpos and imprison it in what becomes Snake Mountain-
    and-
at some point, Zodak and his brother have to join the equation. Big battles, that sort of thing. Zodak's bro gets eaten, Hssss gets imprisoned in the void... and that's that?

See the thing that nailed the coffin lid down on my confusion was when I was reading the character profiles and it said that Hordak banished the Snakemen to the void, which I thought was odd. So maybe it's just the character profiles that were off - or my comprehension of the character profiles. . .

My basic understanding is that the Snake Men returned after Hordak beat them. They returned long after the final battle between Hordak and King Grayskull. And that was when Zodak and the Council defeated them and sent them to the Void.

Just out of interest, how old (ballpark figure) is Zodak? Would he and the Elders have banished the Snake Men to the void a little after King Grayskull's time (making him presumably centuries old)? Or is this more of a recent event?

It was after King Grayskull's time. The general idea is that Zodak is a cosmic warrior, that's more than likely not human or does not age. He lives away and above the world of people and civilization.

Yeah, I thought Zodak and the council did it too.

Maybe the Snakemen getting trapped in the void was a recurring event. There was a real sense of "what has happened in the past, shall happen again" IMO. I would put money on Hordak escaping from Despondos only to get trapped there again later in the series if it had continued... Who would have been killed this time, by Hordak?! The Sorceress?? Allowing Teela to take the mantle of the Sorceress???

King Hiss was also talking about "propaganda" when looking at a mural of his defeat in one of the comics (in Zalesia ?) So who knows what the truth was? (Val and Emil )

I liked the idea that the reign of the good guys, and how they come to power, might not have been so squeaky clean and that there was some Skeletor's in their closets

One thing I NEVER wanted to see was Teela take up the mantle of the Sorceress - or if that ever happened, something about the rules of the Sorceress had to change.

To me, being the Sorceress is almost like a terrible burden. Cutting one's self off from most others. I like Teela as a character too much to wish that fate on her. Part of what makes Teela as a character, especially in the 2002 series, is how this teenage girl has such a sense of commraderie with these other heroic warriors who are so much older than she is. They not only treat her like one of the guys, but she's often LEADING them into battle.

For me, it would be incredible sad and depressing to see her character shunted off. It would also imply that "A *real* grown-up woman has to go sit at home and watch over things. Little girls can play with the boys, but when they grow up, you have to go do 'lady stuff' and wear feathers and not be so physically assertive." That would be a HORRIBLE message, and it would go against everything Teela's character is.

And Sorceress knows that. I think that's why she's trying to keep Teela away. She knows that shutting her up in a castle would kill Teela's spirit. It's not fair that Adam's destiny is to get to go out and be the adventurous He-Man and get all the glory and fame of He-Man, and for Teela to be consigned to sitting inside of Castle Grayskull, waiting for someone to come attack it, or monitoring the "psychic internet" for the next evil threat to warn He-Man about. LAME - for Teela.

I know it's tradition in literature to explore killing the parent characters so the hero has to grow up. We've all seen it a MILLION times. The Filmation MOTU had such a strong sense of family, and what made a family. In these days, it'd be more revolutionary and shocking to see the parents get to live and have happy and long lives.

Oh, and one other thing related to the DVDs - in the documentaries - they showed designs for toys that weren't released. "Snakeslave Teela" - thank the Maker that offensive abomination was never released!!!!! Whose bright idea was it to take the character of a 16 year old girl (minor)and turn her into a "sexy slave? (ala, ripping off Slave Princess Leia in Star Wars - who was at least a grown woman over 18.)" With the millions of women and children suffering from human trafficing as slaves and sex slaves all over the world, this would NOT have been a good direction to go into. BAD BAD BAD!!!!!

    On another note:

I never considered Adam being lucky with destiny in having "glory" of He-Man.

Having the mantle of He-Man is a burden on him, since he has the need to prove himself to his Father. Whole point being that he doesn't get the glory and fame for things he does and is put through.

Especially in the MYP series, being He-Man wasn't all that cracked up, what with learning to control one's powers/abilities, and have Duncan essentially still be the one who leads the warriors and has the strategies. (He-Man never felt to me as being the leader he was in Filmation)

You are right, the secrecy and responsibility is also a burden on Adam. but it's certainly not being shut up in a castle without being allowed to have close attachments with your frineds and loved ones.

maybe if teela did ever become sorceress(never was crazy about filmation making it that way) maybe it would be like Veena to KG . teela might not have to stay in castle but could go out and use her new powers to help battle along side he-man. then as adam, he-man became king go back to liveing in grayskull
just some ideas,, im more a fan of the first mini comics, anyway

I like your thinking! And even though I am a HUGE fan of Filmation's MOTU, I am as much a fan of MOTU in general, in all it's incarnations over the years. So I LOVE the idea combining and connecting all of the differing cannons when it makes sense, and that idea of yours makes sense.
