Can "My Favorite Things" be considered a Christmas song?

Some artists record this song from The Sound of Music and include it on their Christmas albums as a Christmas song. What do you think of that?

I don't see what that song has to do with Christmas, but even when not a Christmas song it's still nice and I guess it fits with the happy mood of the holidays.

I said yes just because it has that holiday feel to it. Not sure how other versions are but the Kenny Rogers one feels even closer to a Christmas song.

I agree. It was in a big book of Christmas songs my grandmother had when we were growing up, so right away in early childhood I had it connected with Christmas. And one of my favorite artists recorded it on her first Christmas album and it does have that holiday feel to it.

Only through repetition amongst Christmas songs. It makes mention of Christmas-y things, but it doesn't exactly scream "Happy Birthday Jesus!" or "Wintery Wonderness." It's just a cute song that I'm a bit tired of hearing already, so Christmas must be close.

Just because it is sung at Christmas time during a movie doesn't make it a Christmas song. If I make a Christmas movie and have somone sing Big Balls by AC/DC will that become a Christmas classic?

If you mean The Sound of Music, it isn't even sung in December; it's sung during a stormy night at some other point in the year.

Here are the lyrics; I've italicized/bolded lines that can fit in with Christmas/wintertime:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings

These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings

These are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs

These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites, when the bee stings
    When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

So pretty much IMO each verse has Christmas/winter-flavored lyrics, except for the dog-bee part, lol.

I still see it as a Christmas song, I also don't mind listening to the song in any other season or month.

It's like me listening to holiday song randomly just for the nostalgic feeling.

The musical this song is from is set in the month of March, so I do not think this is a Christmas song.

I've never believed this to be a Christmas song and usually get annoyed when it is treated as such, however, here are just a few others that have nothing to do with Christmas.

    Let it snow.
    winter Wonderland.
    Jingle Bells.
    Baby it's cold outside.

Now they're pushing for 'Let it go' to fall into Christmas albums... despite Frozen taking place in summer...

Any of these songs are just as thematic for January through march... or maybe even april. Pretty much anytime there is cold and snow.

That's what I like about these songs, you can keep listening to them through January and February :-) (and though "Let It Go" is a song about emotion and feeling, it does mention the snow, ice, frozen fractals, etc., so I can see people thinking of that as a "wintry" song in a way)
