Motu Redesign challenge #86 - The DREAM Mistress!! o-o {blush}

I had posted a concept-sketch over in my art thread, but I managed to get a design done for this one. I like the idea that she's an actual entity that Hordak impersonated rather than something he created out of whole cloth - makes more sense that the heroes would fall for something like that.

There are some amazing entries in this one, so I'm throwing my hat in and hoping for the best - good luck to everybody!

Kirby circles!!!!! I love it, J-Bird. She has a real power to her, and I love anything that recalls Kirby's New Gods. Multiple arms also add to the deity approach too. That headdress is terrific. I could see this in a Bruce Timm project so easily!

hmmm naw I don't want to ask for an extension as I might not have the time to follow through and don't want to hold things up. PLus i could never compete with these entries!! I might post something for fun though if I can get it done in time. :-)

Thanks! That's totally the kind of Kirby/Timm vibe I was going for, so I'm glad it's coming across.

what time is the cut off tomorrow? I can draw something whilst I'm at work but I can't scan it till i get home which will be around 11pm nyc time.

Ok I'm at break at work and I finally had an idea and have her all drawn up. Just need to ink her and then scan her for Pred to color when I get home.

Oh yeah, I'm going to have to agree there!!

Outstanding work from everyone, and it really makes me happy that I took a chance with Dream Mistress! Whenever you take one of these ultra-obscure characters and give them the shot at a redesign, you're sort of threading on unknown water. Might be an underdog hit, but it might be a disasterous scraping of the barrel as well. XD

The DEADLINE IS POST-PONED!!

I have had requests in private for a slight bit more time to complete some entries, and I really do think it will pay off, so I'm post-poning the deadline ONE DAY.

Until the 12th of January.

You've all got until the 12 o'clock on the 12th to finish up your works, if you have something you want to tweak or complete.

EDIT: As previously announced, here's the colour-version of Schenstroms Mistress. =)

Nothing fancy, since we don't have much time, and I'll be doing Patreek tomorrow as well.

the turn out for the last few contests has been really great--i love seeing all these entries.

I chose to interpret the Dream Mistress as a shapeshifting entity who works for Hordak as a spy and saboteur. Here she/it is, in both Horde (right) and non-Horde (left) garb:

The non-Horde version isn't significantly altered, so I threw in the Horde version as a re-design (or alternate costume, at the very least). The pose is rather generic, pretty much just a minor variation of a standby that I go to when drawing women (or shapeshifters that look like women). I was a bit short on time for this one.

Yeah, I think it's no surprise this one has a good turnout.

All the PoP gals have had good turnouts, any other obscure female characters have had good turnouts.

I wish I would've had time to play on this one. But I've really enjoyed seeing all the fun designs! And ideas to make this Purple Mistress a veritable force in the MotU Mythos!

OK here she is:

The main thing I decided to do with her is give her a floating back disk like Castaspella has. When she needs it it floats in front of her and she can touch the strings and utilize the orbs dangling from it to find an individuals dream plane. Once she has found the dream she wants to enter or send someone to the Dream Catcher Disk becomes a portal which she enters to get there.

Can't wait to see the colors on this, nothing special the follow the original scheme pretty much. THe squares and such on the disk are white the rest of it is purple.

LOVE the Castaspella back-disc idea - you just know they would have done that if she'd been a PoP figure to reuse that gimmick.

BOOM! Here we go, one coloured Dream Mistress alá Patreék.

I I went with the black and white effect for the insides of the disc because I figured the threads lead into the very threads of the dream-dimension, the manifestation of the subconcious mind. A little bit of that Ditko-kirby whammo' you had going there.

Well, we have reached the deadline lads, so soon the poll will be coming right up, and the final battle will begin...
