Megan Fox To Play Lara Croft

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Angelina Jolie's loss may just be Megan Fox's gain.

Warner Bros. has confirmed plans to relaunch—and completely overhaul—the hot pants-wearing, artifact-collecting Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise, with the first major casualty being Jolie.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the third film will completely reboot the video game-based character, including changing her origin story (most likely shying away from her English aristocracy roots) and introduce new kinds of missions, love interests and villains.

And, most notably, a new leading lady.

While producers say an actress likely won't be cast until a writer and director have signed on, Fox has emerged as the frontrunner replacement, at least as far as the blogosphere is concerned.

While Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its inconsistently punctuated sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life were produced by Paramount, the rights to the series have since reverted back to video game purveyor Eidos. In December, Time Warner increased its stake in the multimedia company, ensuring in-house studio Warner Bros. first dibs to what has been a lucrative, abeit critically panned, franchise.

The first installment, released in 2001, grossed $275 million worldwide, while the 2003 sequel earned $157 million. All told, the video game series, which launched in 1996, has accounted for more than $1 billion.

Okay, you just know someone is going to complain no matter who the replacement is, thankfully LC dont mean enough to me to get worked up either way, I'll start to form an opinion when the trailer hits.

I just read that the Megan Fox thing was just a rumour and not confirmed in any way shape or form.

    Although, she would rule.

Well I don't like the sound of this. For one thing AJ was great as Lara and another thing...her English ancestory roots are an important part of the character

Oh and apart from Transformers I have not seen a single thing with Megan Fox in it...and I didn't think much of her acting in Transformers

Wow I'm surprised. I hate to point out the obvious but Megan Fox's body does not match up to the Lara Croft of the video game series in the slightest. One could almost make the argument about her face but that is about it. I guess they figure MF was in the successful Transformers so who cares if she doesn't resemble Lara Croft.

Hmm. Odd. I would have said that Fathom would have been a character far more suiting for Ms Fox to portray.

Wasn't there some hoopla that she was in negotiations for that role? ( I.e Aspen Comics Fathom)

    "Tomb Raider" Reboot Confirmed
    By Garth Franklin

It is now being reported that Warners Bros. Pictures and producer Dan Lin ("Sherlock Holmes," "Jonny Quest") are in early development on a reboot of the video game turned film franchise "Tomb Raider" says The Hollywood Reporter.

The rumored recasting as well seems to be a rights issue. Though Paramount previously made the two movies based on the game, the rights have since reverted to Eidos. Time Warner upped its stake to nearly 20% in Eidos in December and films rights to the property became part of that deal.

Much like the recent Batman and James Bond series, the new project will ignore the previous films and will reimagine the origins of Lara Croft, her love interest and the main villain.

As the project is an open-writing assignment, a writer and director are yet to be attached making the casting of Croft herself an unlikely event for a long time yet (sorry Megan Fox fans).

The hugely popular game series, first published in 1996, followed the daredevil archaeologist Lara Croft on a series of global missions. After four subsequent and increasingly panned sequels, the series was put in the hands of new developers who effectively 'rebooted' the series with the game "Tomb Raider: Legend". A direct sequel to that, "Tomb Raider: Underworld", hit stores in November.

Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight and Daniel Craig starred in the first film adaptation in 2001, while Jolie, Gerard Butler and Ciaran Hinds starred in the second in 2003. Despite dreadful reviews the first film scored a major $275 million in international box-office. Reviews were better though still dire for the sequel, while revenue notably sank with only a $157 million global tally.

As it turns out this seems to be a rumor, but assuming it wasn't, it doesn't bother me one way or another.... I liked the other movies just fine, although admittedly I have trouble remembering them. I'm happy with whoever they choose as long as they are extremely hot and Megan pulls that off well. Incidentally, I have not played the games outside of a few minutes of a demo of one on the original Playstation, so I don't know/care much about faithfulness...

Interestingly, Eidos announced just recently that the game series is going to be rebooted, and now the films are too.

Angelina was perfect for the role, so it'll be tough to find someone to replace her. There really isn't any other actress that can match her box office draw and fit the part.

Personally I don't find megan fox attractive, she's very plain in my eyes. that being said she does have a big following that feel she is the hottest thing on earth and though I think she's way too puny and meek looking for the role, she'd definitely bring a lot of horny fan boys to the theatres. I can see why they'd choose her. someone with a Jessica Biel type build suits the character better though.

Yes, but due to disappointing sales of TR:Underworld they're going to give the series ANOTHER overhaul, with a darker tone. I've no idea if it'll follow the storyline laid out in the last 3 games.

    I didn't realize that "plain = unattractive."

Plain would mean that there isn't anything that attracts me to her. for me unattractive means I'm put off by someone's looks repelled if you would, plain means I won't give em a second glance in real life, unattractive I may look twice just to make sure I'm seeing things right.
