Now I really do hope this goes well but to be honest I was never that impressed with the original 2099 comics but I am at least willing to give this one a try and see if it can change my opinion.

I love the design of the Spiderman 2099 costume, but the stories were never that great from what I remember.

I liked the 2099 titles but left them because I had no money at the time. I will definitely be picking this up.

I totally digged Doom 2099 and liked Spider-Man 2099, but felt that both suffered from stereotypical early-90s-style pencils. In fact, Spidey 2099 only really began to appeal to me when Andrew Wildman took over as penciller. Too bad that the series (and the whole universe) went downhill with that Atlantean flood storyline.

I'm interested in Marvel's new take. I just hope they keep the good aspects and reinvent the bad ones instead of just messing around.

If I recall, all the titles dealt with that stupid flood storyline. Ugh. X-Men 2099 was one of my favorite comics up until that point . . .

i LOVED that universe of titles and it was around when i REALLY started to collect back in the day. i loved all the titles. i do agree i didnt like that they essentially "flooded and killed" the universe at the end. i guess i cna say it HAD an end though rather than just killing the titles and having the universe in limbo.

i would love it if they entered the universe before alot of the cataclysmic stuff happened.

however!!!! i am very wary of any 2099 comic now. i have been burned MANY times before this. they have slapped 2099 onto WAAAY too many comics that have no affiliation with that universe. it also says they are going to tweak things such as making spider-man younger....why do that? why?

i will be optimistic for the most part til the series comes out. if it is good i will buy the trade. if not...

I was with Marvel 2099 from the start to the finish and read every issue they did. There were some relatively weak series, but overall I loved both the stories and the art.

I wasn't happy with the flood and phalanx storylines that followed, nor did I think that 2099 World of Tomorrow was all that good. On the up side there was 2099 Manifest Destiny which did a wonderful job of confusing the hell out of everyone, lol

yeah around the time of the flood it started to take a turn. that had to deal with marvel editorial forcing changes. they changed writers directions or out right took them off the projects. there were some good stories planned that never saw the light

but the 2099 had a great premise and world.

I heard that they unexpectedly let go of Cavalieri who was editing the books which caused the writers and artists to leave the books too.

Aw, shock! That's awesome news. I thought it was such a cool concept when I was a kid, so I look forward to see what they do with it this time around.

Even though these will be re-imagined versions of the originals I'll still give this a look as I loved the original 2009 line. And for those interested Marvel is putting out the first 10 issues of Spiderman 2099 in trade paperback on 04/29/2009.

yup basically. they pretty much canned the editor of the books and that was the downfall in my opinion(and many others)

I'd love to see more 2099 characters meet their modern day versions. I believe only Spider-man and Spider-man 2099 met. There were other crossovers between 2099 and modern characters, but never the counterparts. Then again, a meeting between Doom 2099 and the modern Dr. Doom would be a moot point, as would Fantastic Four and FF2099 since they were the modern versions displaced in time.

But I would love to see an X-Men crossover with X-Men 2099, or even a Hulk vs Hulk 2099.

Doom met Dr. Doom in a storyline towards the end of Doom 2099. It also crossed over with the main fantastic 4 books. Not sure what issue it was off the top of my head, but around 414. I think it was around 2 issues before the original book was rebooted during the Onslaught crisis.

As for the FF, in Manifest Destiny it was revealed that they were created by Uatu, thereby not being the originals. In many regards MD made very little sense so I would not be surprised if they decided to retcon that.

Quesada believes a younger Spider-man sells better then an older one so is most likely nudging it that way.

I will look into it when it hits if I do like will look into it further if not.

Bah, Quesada, maybe he's gonna let them explain Miquel's sudden youth by a deal with Mephisto. It's magic!

I felt that back in the 90s, the 2099 universe was in trouble when they began introducing 2099 versions of countless heroes and villains. Okay, the Venom 2099 storyline was awesome, and Daredevil 2099 looked promising. But in their last years, some things looked as if an editor said "darn, sales are low, let's bring back some icons from the 616 universe instead of creating new characters". I really wonder what some authors could do with the 2099 universe nowadays if they were let loose.

Anyway, I'm skeptical, but maybe "Timestorm" will turn out to be a sleeper hit.

NO! Quesada would never ever do anything like a Deal with Spider-man 2099 making a deal with Mephisto...he would be doing the deal with Mephisto 2099! DUH!
