Munky: Aww, what are you talking about? Looks like a solid concept to me! =) Nice to see your rought tho, makes me salivate for the final product.

Danbrenus: You made it!! Welcome to the challenge man, I'm looking forward to seeing you often in these parts.

That is without a doubt the most classic Gygor I have ever seen, very true to the classic mindset, of what he may very well have been depicted as on the cardbacks. And how cool isn't it that he's charging Beastman?!

    Smashin' stuff mate.

EDIT: The poll is certainly an even one...! All candidates except poor Dr Zoog are neck to neck. Where's the love for the trollan in the giant mech-warrior suit, eh?

Seriously tho, all characters are cool so no matter what we should get a pretty cool challenge out of it.

    Here's mine:

It was tough making the colors from Gygor's description work. Maybe they don't work? On the other hand, the description of Gygor's colors very much paralleled the garish colors of Battle Cat, so maybe if the colors don't work that means they are working? Anyways, I designed Gygor's helmet to mirror Battle Cat's as well. The guns are all modelled on Stridor's armaments. The chair mounted on Gygor's backpack should give you a sense of his scale.

A garishly colored giant gorilla decked out in a cape and high-tech energy weapons... hmmm... something's missing. Oh, I know--how about some supplemental nerdy background info, written by yours truly? Here you go:

    * * *

PROFILE: Standing at well over 13 feet tall, the ancient being known as GYGOR is one of the most powerful entities on Eternia. His physical strength surpasses that of He-Man, his wisdom rivals that of the Sorceress, and his knowledge encompasses aeons of Eternia's rich history. His helm is made from the hide of a powerful prehistoric Eternian beast, and he is outfitted with a battle harness powered by an enchanted gem. The harness is armed with two heavy shoulder blasters, two hip mounted stun rays, and rotating light rapid fire blasters mounted on the back turret. Gygor rarely needs to rely on more than his brute strength and great wisdom, but he has also demonstrated powerful spellcasting abilities from time to time.

HISTORY: Gygor was already ancient in the days of King Grayskull, and in fact, records indicate that Gygor was a staunch ally and advisor to the legendary king. Allegedly, in modern day Eternia, Gygor has been sighted travelling towards Castle Grayskull. Has Gygor returned to aid the heroes of the land in the dark times that have descended upon Eternia? Only time will tell...

    Jafari: Yay!

Leoghan: Well, he still looks a bit mean so I think you got the gist of it. The big club puts the final pin in the pincussion, so to speak.

Bootleg: Kickass! That's one real-deal MotU-ape there. You're the one that has given him the most intelligent persona I notice! And yeah, you're right about the colours, they mirror Battle Cat's. And that's why I'm so surprised no-one's coloured his armour in a blueish Purple yet?

Battle-Cat has red armour for maximum contrast to his green fur, so logically, shouldn't Gygor have purple armour for maximum contrast to his golden fur?

That's AWESOME. Just ... awesome. And I like that you made him ancient ... I was thinking along that route too before I scrapped mine (trust me, it was the right thing to do) - I was going to make him He-Ro's mount instead of He-Man's (and was going to leave him in Preternia rather than bring him up to modern Eternia).

Is there still room for entries? I'm still hammering out my idea. Granted it won't be a pretty colored piece, but I think it might be interesting.

There's ALWAYS room for more entries! And there's still plenty of deadline to go. And you know, I'm always available if you need colour, y'see. I try to give everyone a fair chance.

Wow, just wow Jason, I had trouble even imagining the description given by the original idea (why a red cape AND a seat harness?) but through some miracle you manage to put it all together in an illustration so memorable that were Mattel to make an actual figure of it I'd want to buy it !
My only nitpik is the story, if he was so powerful and ancient even in preternian days, wouldn't he be considered for membership by the council of elders to? Just asking .

thanks for the kind words, folks!

JafariStew: thank you my friend, i can't wait to see yours!

Leoghan: i appreciate it man! i'm with you--i like the overall look of your second drawing better--but i also like the club and the classic wrist bracer on the first version.

j-bird: NOOOOOOOOO... unscrap him! or start over! the org needs to see a j-birdized version of gygor!

theblock: thank you--you're too kind sir, too kind... as for gygor and the council of elders, i'll admit it did cross my mind, but i'm kind of building my interpretation of MOTU one small piece at a time, and i was running a bit short of time to do the prope research. there's actually a bit more to gygor's backstory that i thought of, but i didn't have the time to write it... it shall be revealed in a future installment of my nerdiness!

Just been hit by this thought, Big Jim had some menagerie in his rooster, I can remember plenty of his animal: the tiger (later Battle Cat), the falcon (Zoar), the ape (Gy-gor) and some unused like the crocodile(hmm, not the best of 'em),the horse(too big for MOTU), the wolf/dog, and the baby-rhino!
Now, for the other I don't know, but I made some thought on the baby-rhino, startin' with the fact that compared to a MOTU he's no baby animore, soo....

I called him Battle-horn, as usual for me his harness and helmet are pretty ultraclassic designed, the only thing I'ven't figured out is the color scheme, any hint?
An must of all, any other B.J. beast usable in the MOTU line I don't know?

danbrenus: that's genius! my instinct for the color scheme is greyish-turquoise skin with an orange saddle/helmet. i think for the crocodile, maybe instead of making him a mount, you could give him a harness with guns and weapons, like zoar.

actually, in retrospect, i probably should have modelled gygor's guns after zoar rather than stridor on my own design...

PHEW! Here's that coloured Gygor I promised Leoghan.

The thing that really took a lot of time wasn't the colouring or rendering or whatever, but the intense amount of clean-up necessary. I've gone down close, and cut out just about everything was blemished from the paper and scan. The colours are based on your previous colour-version, so I hope I got the most of it the way you ( Leoghan) wants it.

Leoghan: Coolness! I think everybody deserves a colour-entry in the challenges, so I'm glad it worked.

Danbrenus: I'd say you should make the skin more blue in tone, and put a little bit more yellow in the saddle's Orange. It looks a bit too red right now.

And yeah... It's probably better suited for your regular Ultra-classic thread, mate. He's not quite a big yellow ape, now is he?

from the jungles of Preternia comes ...

I see him as being He-Ro's version of Battle-Cat. He's a mechanical being fueled by magic rather than a battery/generator/traditional means.

The green tube-things are an energy-amplification array, which boosts He-Ro's magical power when he's in the little seat-pod. They also draw in ambient magical energy to allow Gygor to function when He-Ro is not around. It's hard to see from the pose I used, but there are four of them spaced around the pod in his back.

The little seat-pod sits in the center of his back and is gyroscopically balanced (thanks Predabot) so the rider is always upright - helps make spellcasting easier for He-Ro. That way when Gygor is flinging himself at top speed through the jungle canopy, He-Ro still has a stable seat. It can also detach and fly around as a little scout-craft kind of deal.

When He-Ro is in the "driver's seat," both he and Gygor are at their most powerful - Gygor is stronger, faster, and can shoot energy beams from his eyes, while He-Ro's power is at its strongest due to the amplifiers.

The little glass-shield and gears in the torso are a nod to Roboto.

I figured He-Ro needed the mobility and strength boost more than He-Man does (since he's already got Battle-Cat), especially if he's fighting giants, dinosaurs, and the Evil Horde.
