MOTUC Visions: the Logo - Part 1

Something different and probably unexpected this week!
We pitched various idea to Mattel last year, not just toy designs.
We had proposals for Minicomics, Packaging, Box Art, etc.

One I was displeased most with the 2002 line, was the logo.
It just didn't capture the grandeur of the original one.
So, while the figures added details and features, the new logo felt like going in the opposite direction, a sort of downgrade.

With a new line there I felt there was a new opportunity to make a really great new logo, updating the original one.

In all fairness this has started as a concept for the new Movie logo and it was done way before the new line got named "Classics"
That's whay that part is missing.

Then, as we know Mattel went in a totally different direction.

Of course if you're wondering why this is "part 1", that's because I later update the logo to reflect more the MOTUC packaging color choiices, but I'll post that at a later date.

Wosers! I love it, the perfect blend of the original and movie logo. I love seeing all the stars and reflected light. It really makes me think of space and the universe it's self. Stupid Mattel ths would have been 20 times better than what we eventually got for the 2k or MOTUC logo (IMO). Excellent work as usual Emiliano. Did Val help with any or the colors on this piece?

Nope, this is entirely my design and work. On a logo I do everything, it isn't like a comic

I had to get all my boxes out to check out the different logos on each series (The classics, 200x, even both old and new series DVD covers, plus had to look online to see what the original figures packaging looked like). I actually like the old logo out of all the other ones, but like this one even better. The original 1980's logo on the figures look like not only the figures are exploding through a stone wall, but the logo is as well. The 200x one is cool in its own right only because when you look at the masters logo itself, you see a visual of he-man's head on the left, power sword in the middle, and skeletor's head to the left. the classics just looks like its coming from the figures head and also has none of the shine the original had (all the light glistening you could see). The only thing about the classics logo is behind the logo on the card front (as weird as that sounds) you can see the logo in a shroud of light coming from Grayskull. It's just weird as the classics one looks nothing like the old one except the masters part which looks like it was photoshopped cheaply on the package :P

Emilliano, the more I look at this design I am just blown away by the love, and detail there is in this design. I would love for boomerang media to approach you, as a lead designer for a purely Filmation based line of MOTU, POP, Blackstar & Bravestar toys in the same scale of the JLU toys, then they could use this incredable logo. (I know something like this will likely never happen, But Mattel can't stop me dreaming can they?) Amazing work on the battle damaged metal border of the logo and the cut markings on the metal.

Can you post your Princess of Power logo re-design you did for BCI as well? I would love to see both of your re-designs side by side, that would just be incredable.

Also, if this design was submitted to Mattel, but they chose to ignore it, it seems very strange that they also used an orange border for their logo, which (I assume) they must have come up with after you had shown them your design? If this is the case I think Mattel should have at least given you or your design some credit as having an influance in how Mattel developed the current MOTUC design: & explaning why it has a very similar border.

Looks really fab' Emiliano. A movie-logo could do far worse than this. I do wonder tho, why didn't you enter into the logo design-challenge for the Custom Figure challenge a few years back?? I think you could have done something really great there!

Definitely a great version of the logo.

I love the movie-esque in it, and the starfield, which screams "THERE'S A WHOLE UNIVERSE BEYOND THIS LOGO"

Because that's how I see it. On a movie-into, I'd love to see this sorta logo, where the camera zooms into the star-field, and next thing we'd be getting closer to Planet Eternia.

I agree with everyone else. This is outstanding. Easily my favourite version of the MOTU logo thus far (easily on par with the vintage design.)

Awesome work Emil. This really is top notch.

I have to admit, I saw the title of this thread and thought to myself "I waited all week for a logo?"

I'd been hoping, of course, for more character designs.

Boy, was I pleasantly surprised - that logo is fan-freakin'-tastic.
