    MOTUC Visions: Horde Troopers

This week, something different again, to show what kind of ideas we tried to pitch to Mattel, going past simple figure designs.

This concepts are NOT ABOUT THE HORDE TROOPER DESIGN.
The Four Horsemen don't need my suggestion on how to sculpt or design the HT for sure.

But, as Repaints and Refresh figures are a needs in most toylines, I tried to came up with ideas to make a smart use of repaints.

The HT, coupled with being army builder figures, are perfect for this purpose.
Jut look at what Star Wars does with Clone Troppers.

The HT Can be repainted as many times as we want, and with jsut a few extra molds, we could have lots of awesome variatons from the Marine Troopers seen in the cartoon to even portraing specific moments of the MOTU history...

The first image shows the basic Horde Tropper, almost identical to his vintage counterpart.
His chest armor is made by two alves and can be detached.

By changing the armor and replacing the head, here we have the Horde Troopers we've seen during the Eternia Invasion in SOTS flashbacks:

Then, molded in blue and with another new head and new lower legs, the "Marine Troopers" from Treasures of the First Ones can be easily achived.

With this molds library it's just a matter of crazy Mattel would want to go, here are a few examples...

THAT IS AWESOME! I pray that Mattel sees this and gives us Horde Troopers ASAP!
I don't even think it would require so many new parts to do. If you change the legs of Trap Jaw and the arms of Roboto they could be shared parts. The plate armor on the arms could clip on Roboto's arms. If they did share parts with the Horde trooper, their back story could be amended to say scrap Horde Trooper parts where used to make Roboto and fix Kronus...As you said the chest armor and helmet could just clip on top of the standard He-Man body...This would make The Horde Trooper as financially feasible as Hordak or He-Ro...

I love the army building idea. Hasbro has really milked it with Star Wars and GI Joe. Mattel should jump o the band wagon.
The best concepts are the elite guard (shades of starwars ) and the Batmek design!

    additional ones:

Shadow Horde Trooper: solid black, no highlights
space Horde trooper: with a jet pack
Horde "brute" troop: twice the size
    "flash" Trooper: reflective chrome
Skele squadron: purple & black, with skull symbol, reprogrammed by youknowwho
Monstroid trooper: transforming into a mini vehicle.
Tank Trooper (like the "tank Top" concept drawing)
    Horde Knights: MYP's ancient design.

um ok. sorry, got a little overboard with dreaming.
Don't get me started on the Royal Guard

I love how you added the Horde Marine Trooper in there. I've always liked that design and you turned it into a MOTUC version wow.
I wished they could do them. These are all great.
You were truley inspired when you did these guys. I can feel the love!

I think it would be rather silly if someone at Mattel think they can't stick a He-Man's head on an Horde Trooper's Body

    I don't understand! Why not?
If they make a Horde Trooper (which is waaaaaayy off) why not make this version as a variant?

Awesome Emil! These really are outstanding and the art is just all around wicked as always

I actually did the same thing in my style guide (not nearly as many though... just gray, black, and red.)

I still think everything is a bit too FILMATION-esque in the vibe. I know that this Horde Trooper is just like the toy but it's like it's surrounded in a FILMATION aura or something. Not a bad thing but it just feels like it becomes a MOTUC no-no for some weird reason.

    Dear Emiliano,

Thanks for the artwork and the idea !

While these Horde Troopers look fantastic, I would'nt like Mattel to produce dozens of them ! I'm not too keen on the variant thing though, and I'd prefer that more original characters would be produced, rather than seeing 11 Horde Trooper variants. Personally, I would be prefectly content with a traditional MOTUC Horde Trooper with cool articulations (which was not the case for the vintage one, that was not that quite poseable).

But hey, maybe they could make a Horde Trooper with different heads inside the box, so you can change it ?
Or better yet : a special Horde Trooper box with 3 different colored Horde Troopers inside it, and a bunch of differents heads and weapons !

    Just a thought...

Anyway, I know for sure that our custom artists will be delighted with the drawings and ideas you just gave us !

    Awesome concept.
    Looks amazing again.

But way to many variants for me.
I really dont see the point of them all.
But atleast its different then anything we have seen before with variants.
Not sure I would buy 2 of each of them though.

Repaints don't take the place of regular figures.
They are created to maximize profits over tool expenses.
Most of the time, they are NEEDED to help the series survive.

The point here is that people would prefer to buy Horde Trooper variants that make sense instead of Disco Skeletor ;-)

As long as they make the head removable the same way as the rest of the figures, you could make any character in "Horde Disguise".

As long as (like you said) they didn't take the place of the regular monthly figure, I'd be fine with them. I'm not really an army-builder kind of collector (I don't need a whole horde of Horde Troopers filling up my shelf), but I'm glad to see the responses of the people who do enjoy that; I'd be perfectly happy to see everyone get what they want out of this line.

And besides that, more figures sold, of any kind, means more money for unique sculpts / additional characters and helps the line survive.

So, even though the Horde Trooper / variants aren't my personal cup of tea, I can appreciate the cool designs and the fun variants you've come up with. Thanks for posting all of these!

Another terrific vision, Emiliano! I especially like the Batmek pilot, and the concepts for the variants. I'm the guy who wanted the Dread Trooper and Dread Commander from the Captain Power line (and never got 'em obviously), so this'd be awesome.

My one complaint is that the legs seem a little long on him, though that's true to the original figure. What I most disliked about the original toy was that stupid exploding action feature. He always fell apart on me. A MOTUC version would, I hope, not share that flaw.
